Berry has been 0-2 when signing FA free safeties. Both Thornhill and Johnson never worked.

At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

Definitely another lousy signing.

Throw Karl Joseph and Andrew Sendejo into the safety mix as well.

It’s time to just start the roster overhaul and let the rebuild begin.

Now the question becomes what will it cost to sign a real S?

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Interesting yet head scratching move by Berry. Though it has been rather common knowledge that the Browns were most likely moving on from Thornhill, using 1 of the 2 NFL allowed post-June 1st cuts that would take place on March 12th does not provide much cap relief, $3,400,000, when your team is sitting with a ($24,002,931) deficit. Note: dead money cap for 2026 just went up by $5,668,000 too, the supposed Watson cut year.

We should find out a lot more about Berry's plan this week being the NFL Scouting Combine starts and only 16 days remain for the Browns to be league compliant in the cap by March 12th. One of the cap generating options has now been used.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Thornhill wasn't nearly as bad as JJ3, and we also didn't pay him nearly as much. Lumping the two together seems a bit harsh.

That said... yeah, go ahead and lump FS into the list of positions that AB has struggled to address.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Players "forgetting" how to play football in Cleveland, a tradition like no other.

It would be much easier to list the position groups he has successfully addressed.Corner is all I can come up with,I think he's just average there.

No doubt he hasn't been very good at evaluating that position. Sometimes i wonder if Berry actually wonders why a player isn't being signed by his former team? Teams don't generally let good players loose.

Sometimes it happens but usually it is marginal players who seek average player money or average players seeking good player money. "Plus" players don't usually get to the end of a contract. Teams extend them or trade them if they can't extend them.

If a team knows, no matter the reason that they won't be able to extend a good player, you always want to get something for that player even if it is the proverbal "sack of footballs".

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

There a some exceptions. Some players are in a system or played in a manner that does not best suit their skill set. They would probably play better in a system that suited them better. Then there are players who are simply let go for salary cap reasons. But one has to be able to identify these things to avoid the very thing you described which is certainly most often the case.

It's hard to predict who will quit playing hard once they get paid or face adversity, and Thornhill did deal with injuries here. Most agencies coach their players well on what to say in interviews. Unfortunately, there's not a foolproof way to get inside guys' heads when asking about their motivations. Getting hurt can make any player not work out regardless of motivation.

Compensatory picks muddy the water as far as letting guys go for nothing. Who you have waiting in the wings behind the player going into free agency is also a factor. If you have a comparable player that's younger and cheaper, it can make sense to move on. The Chiefs had Bryan Cook ready to go.

And, sometimes teams don't want to spend as much salary money on specific positions.

Safety, on some teams, is not a highly invested position. I believe the Browns are one of those teams.

Someday we will draft a late-round free safety that will pay dividends!

I also think that the team really likes Hickman. (and I do as well)
