Today is a day set aside to give thanks to all of the men and women who have served our nation in the military. Who have sacrificed so much time away from their families to serve. Those who fought in battle and those who served stateside to support their efforts. I know several veterans who still bear those scars whether it's on the outside or on the inside. All gave some and some gave all. To all of you I would like to extend my thanks and gratitude for all you sacrificed to serve and defend The United States of America. It is well deserved.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Thank you to all who served. It is the greatest sacrifice

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Thank you to all who loved this country so much that they were willing to serve, and sacrifice. God bless you all.

This veterans day comes with many concerns over how Vets will be treated in the years to come. Some people seem to think we are suckers and losers. However, IMHO every Vet deserves respect and acknowledgement, especially today. We’ll see how it goes, but I think us Vets have a fight or two left in us, if the disrespect or cutting off services goes too far. And I’m especially sorry to those who are serving now, you deserved better.

jack...I thank you and your family for all that they sacrificed for their/our country...especially your father, who made the "ultimate sacrifice".

jack, some day, I hope that your PTSD can be overcome and replaced with "pride" as you realize that the sacrifices of your family are greatly appreciated by most Americans and deserve to be recognized, especially on "Veterans Day".

Thank you, jacksondawg and thank you to all of your family.

I would like to send a "belated thank you" to all veterans and their families, who have served and
sacrificed at a time of war, dating back to WW One and further.

From Wikipedia, link
Veterans Day (originally known as Armistice Day) is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces.[b][1][2] It coincides with holidays in several countries, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which also occur on the anniversary of the end of World War I.[3] Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. At the urging of major U.S. veteran organizations, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.[4]

Veterans Day is distinct from Memorial Day, a U.S. public holiday in May: Veterans Day commemorates the service of all U.S. veterans, while the older Memorial Day, which grew out of Civil War commemorations, specifically honors those who have died while in military service.[5] Another military holiday that also occurs in May, Armed Forces Day, honors those currently serving in the U.S. military. Additionally, Women Veterans Day is recognized by a growing number of U.S. states that specifically honor women who have served in the U.S. military.

Here's what to know for November 11

This Monday is Veterans Day, the annual federal holiday that celebrates and remembers all who have served in the military, both in wartime and peacetime.

The day has been observed in one form or another since 1919, when then-President Woodrow Wilson commemorated the first anniversary of the World War I armistice, saying, "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations."

It was officially recognized as a federal holiday in 1938 and became known as Veterans Day in 1954.

Veterans Day is celebrated on Nov. 11—the day the armistice ending World War I was signed—every year, regardless of what day it falls on.

When is Veterans Day observed in 2024?
Veterans Day falls on a Monday this year, meaning that federal employees will observe the federal holiday that day, and many non-essential government services will be closed.

Many schools and companies will also be closed Monday in observation of the holiday. Most retail stores and eateries traditionally remain open, often offering discounts for military veterans.

What was Veterans Day originally called?
The day was first recognized by Congress in 1926, and became an official holiday in 1938, when it was known as "Armistice Day" and was primarily meant to celebrate World War I veterans.

In 1954, following both World War II and the Korean War, the word "armistice" was changed to "veterans" to honor veterans of all American wars. The day Veterans Day was celebrated moved a few times over the years, but President Gerald Ford moved it back to its annual observance on the Nov. 11 date by 1978.

Is Veterans Day different from Memorial Day?
Besides being observed in two different months, the set purpose of Veterans Day and Memorial Day is different.

Memorial Day is observed the last Monday of May each year, and is meant to honor all who served and gave their lives for their country. Veterans Day is in November, and honors all veterans, both living and dead, who served in times of war and peace.

First, an explanation to let my fellow DawgTalkers and Veterans know why I'm a bit late posting to this thread...

I'm just over one week out from a date with my Orthopedic Surgeon and a total replacement of my left knee. I'm doing ok but with my puter on the second floor and my temporary medical residence locate on the first floor, it was a bit of a problem. I'm able to negotiate my stairs now so I'm doing a bit of catching up on DT.

Recover well Mac. I’m just now getting to normal with that full quad tear I had early in the year. My mom had both knees done a few years back. After this quad tear, I don’t know how people even walk after a knee replacement. But she was up and running again in 3 months. I’m like 7 months in now and can finally use that leg as my lifting leg when climbing stairs, which was my final obstacle.

Thanks for all the well wishes..gotta recover quickly because in Feb. the right knee is scheduled for the same surgery, total knee replacement.

My ortho doctor, who has 26 yrs experience told me "I was #2"...the second worst knee he has operated on. My left knee was bone on bone and had eroded to the point that he had to rebuild the knee joint about 1" to restore my normal height.

Recovery is going to be a long road but I'm up for the challenge...we don't quit and I have accepted the challenge. The goal is to be walking normally by this upcoming summer.
