I still do not know how well the Browns offense will play.

I see some potential and at the same time there remain questions. New offense with some new players and of course DW.

Defense is a different story. I feel secure with the defense. They were good last year with Schwartz in his first year. In his second season he has the return of most of his players and they all begin healthy.

It all begins up front. Myles, Tomlinson, Harris, Z.

Backed up with Wright, Hurst, Jefferson, Ogbo.

That is a damn good rotation of players up front.

The secondary is ready to fly.

Ward, Emerson, Newsome, Delpit, Thornhill. Excellent depth. McLeod, Hickman, Mitchell, Hailassie, Harden.

Linebackers are led by JOK, Hicks, Bush, Diabate, Fields, Watson.

I expect this defense to roar. Apply great pressure and get turnovers. IMO it is the game's number one defense.

We can get it done on three levels. Schwartz will get the front to really get after the QB. Pressure is very humbling. I don't care who the QB is. Myles is a game wrecker. Offenses have to game plan Myles. What makes it different is that Myles is not alone any longer. He has help.

Offenses will find the Browns defense very hard to play against. It is not necessarily scheme or trickery. It is individual talent. That talent can line up against you one on one and say let's go.

If the defense can win us games early. Maybe the offense will catch up.

I love the rotation of the D line and, again, this will be a huge driver to how successful the defense will be. I really like the depth on both the interior and exterior with guys like Alex Wright, Quinten Jefferson, & Mo Hurst. And I look forward to seeing what McGuire & Hall (if he stays) can do with more snaps.

Looking forward to seeing a regular nickel of Emerson and Ward on the outside and Newsome in the middle.

Hopefully, Delpit can continue to grow and Thornhill can stay healthy.

Finally, this defense needs to be more consistent on the road and, hopefully, last year was just an outlier.

At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

We definitely need to stay healthier. Jefferson will be a nice addition. And Delpit is a key - he needs to play like last season.

My concern is staying healthy and limiting the breakdowns in the secondary

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I consider us fortunate to begin the season healthy.

Injuries will happen. From this point going forward you play the guys you have on the team.

Like JOK last season this could be the year Delpit becomes the player he expects himself to be. Delpit is a confident guy. He is also very talented because he can do damn near anything you ask of him.

Quincy Carrier got into the numbers and film of the road game lapse. He said it is not as bad as thought. Red Zone has been a point of emphasis in Camp.

That is why I expect improvement in Schwartz's second year.

Red zone certainly was an issue. Not sure the real culprit. Could be just coincidental. We'll find out

A fresh, healthy CeeDee Lamb matched up against Newsome coming off the hamstring surgery is somewhat concerning. I'm curious how we'll try to cover him. At the same time, I don't think we can overlook the Cowboys running game. The RBs don't exactly inspire fear, but they've got some people movers up front. I don't want to look too far beyond week one.

Hopefully we can pick right up looking like when we were operating the best, but we'll see. I'm slightly worried about our opponents trending more run heavy against us. If the offense can get us some early leads, we should be able to roll on D. If the O struggles early and we fall behind, all bets are off. Early season tackling could be ugly.

I'd be shocked if we had newsome on Lamb ... Haden and Emerson are more effective against shiftier guys

Lamb is used outside and from the slot.

Newsome is healthy. He said he has been ready for weeks but the coaches are conservative about injury. He will be ready to go.

When Lamb plays out of the slot. Newsome should get help on the back end. His job is to cover that first move. It should be under/over coverage. Ward and Emerson can stick to Lamb.

IMO Lamb will make some plays. It is about pressure on Dak. We have to bring that all game. Dak will give us some turnover chances.

I like our defense against Dallas. I am clueless about our offense.

Agree except I’ve never seen anything like the number of short fields we gave opposing offenses. Never seen anything like it. And the number of pick sixes and fumble returns for TDs was also crazy. Redzone needs to absolutely improve but whenever we did get off the field on 3rd here comes the flag for a questionable call.

If all that reverts to the mean I think we should be good.

Joe would shut him down for 3.75 quarters. Browns would muster 139 yards of offense and one Dawson FG. Browns would lose 10-3 on a late Lamb 13yd TD and Joe would be blamed for the loss.

Those were the good old days. 🤣

Joe was a great 3.5 quarter CB. Always gave up the big play at the end.

Love that he loved Cleveland though.

This defence, barring major injuries, will be elite again this year. Too much talent and a defensive coaching master to not be great. If they stay healthy, they’ll win a lot of games by themselves.

That is the way I see it as well.

Personnel wise I don't remember a better defense.

There are game changers on defense. Enough that they are not reliant on one or two guys.

Myles is a problem. JOK is a play maker. We some ballhawks in the secondary. I am a big fan of Emerson.

In addition there are strong rotations that will keep guys fresh.

I expect big things from this defense.

Just having a more limited number of injuries should improve this unit. Rotation is great, but if there aren't enough players for requisite depth, it just doesn't help as much. Hope we mangle some O's. I feel great about this side of the ball and their coach.
