RIP Pup

The Cleveland Browns are dealing with a heartbreaking loss on Tuesday -- the team's live mascot, Swagger Jr., has passed away.

He was just five years old.

The team posted a touching message in the Bullmastiff's honor minutes ago ... saying, "We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved mascot, SJ. We are so grateful for his many years of loyal support and cherish all of the wonderful memories he helped create for fans young and old."

SJ was the son of the Browns' first live mascot, Swagger ... who held the position from 2014-19. Swagger passed away in 2020 after a battle with cancer.

SJ handled gameday duties until his passing. Details surrounding his death were not released.

Let's hope, if there are funeral photos, they are above the waist this time.

I was thinking maybe switch up the bloodline. There may be something in the DNA?

Also, maybe they should just let the concept die? Mastiffs are large dogs with a short lifespan, like maybe 6-7 years.

Get a Pitbull. They live longer and once their jaws lock on to you, you can’t shake em. Like the Brown’s D should be.

Pit bulls are ugly dogs, no offense to pit and all the pit bull people here. wink
They need to bring in a dog that is tough and loyal, but beautiful, like we Browns fans. smile

I would say doberman because they are tough, loyal, and beautiful, but too many people get their panties in a bunch about being cropped and docked.

My dog is part Dobermann. He is definitely protective .... more than I would like.

He is probably a sweetheart also. My doberman is a great guard dog, but also a big mama's boy. Loves to snuggle.

Maybe consider a St. Bernard. Got the keg on board around his neck after all. That should appeal to Dawg Pounders, I'd think. Thanks to pups we've had as mascots; great work to be Browns' dogs.

My staffie died tragically at 6 from an undiagnosed heart issue. It was sudden and heartbreaking.

I've had a total of three. Zak, Taz and Tanni Bone. I lost Tanni Bone over 10 years ago to cancer. After losing all three over the course of my life, that was enough for me. I just can't do it anymore.

Airedale. They sport the team colors and have every trait mentioned in other dogs. Loyal, size, fearless, alert, can stand their ground with authority and have been used in military situations.

peen...a breeder would need to have some knowledge of the breed and know enough to be able to read a pedigree back 2 or 3 generations.

Buyers who rely on big-time or best known breeders of a particular breed must understand 99% of those big-time breeders will not tell a buyer about the negative experiences concerning their breeding record of their particular line.

Breeders with the goal of breeding the best puppies to meet "AKC confirmation standards" likely are not breeding for the longevity as their #1 goal. Each breeding is an "experiment" and each breeder can only make a guess when dealing with longevity of their puppies.

The Browns might be wise to rely on educated sources when looking for a Swagger replacement...

After reading my above comment, I do not want it to sound or come off as me being arrogant.

The first step to increase your chances of finding a puppy that meets your standards is to find a good breeder first. Simply looking in a dog magazine or over the internet might not be enough to locate a breeder.

It can be harder to find a good breeder than it is to find a puppy.

Good luck Browns 'mascot' search team...

RIP SJ..
