Jury selection kicks off in Hunter Biden's federal gun crime trial Hunter Biden's gun crime trial in Delaware kicks off with jury selection on Monday. Hunter is charged with making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm, and his addiction to drugs at the time is key to the case. Hunter faces a maximum of 25 years in prison if he is convicted on all counts.
Throw away the key.

I'm certainly glad he isn't running for president. I could simply never bring myself to support him with my vote.
As in every case whether it's a Republican or a Democrat, if he is found guilty by a jury he should be punished for his crimes. As with trump I don't think the punishment should be out of the normal guidelines for similar cases with similar circumstances.
People should not be punished too harshly nor to leniently based on who they are.

I believe he meant associated with a violent crime by using the gun. I thought that was fairly obvious. We all know falsifying documents to ,obtain anything is a crime.
Except of course when Trump does it.

You have it... normally, a person gets caught committing some other crime and then charged for a false application. Otherwise there is no reason for the government to check every application to determine if the application is false.
Unless your Hunter Biden, and decide to write book about your drug addiction problems for others to read and self incriminate.
Sorry but I'm not going to join you in blaming the court system for the law that Hunter actually broke. He falsified documents to purchase a firearm. That's a criminal offense. Excuses be damned.

I’m not asking you to join me and I agree if true, he broke the law. Not surprised you and arch have him guilty beforehand. Guess we forget innocent until proven guilty when it’s a Biden.

It seems you didn't get the memo. On the form he claimed he wasn't a drug addict. He publicly admitted he was a drug addict at the time of the gun purchase.
The only possible defense I've heard brought up, which I don't think stands a chance in hell of working is to try and show a lack of intent. This could be done by claiming that at the time of the purchase Hunter didn't actually realize he was a drug addict. How that would change the fact he committed the crime is beyond me.
Yes, arch and I are exactly alike.

The MAGA twits in the house made family fair game with this move. If Hunter committed crimes he SHOULD PAY, but since everyone else with this charge gets a slap on the wrist or nothing at all, I find this to be a dangerous precedent.

Remember, innocent until proven guilty. Nah he’s a Biden.
I'm sure the fact he published a book where he admitted he was an addict during the time frame in which he purchased the weapon has no meaning to you. And I suppose you think O.J. was innocent too. I mean a jury said so, right?

Hunter Biden's voice fills the courtroom as prosecutors play clips from his autobiography
Prosecutors played audio clips from Hunter Biden reading his autobiography saying that prior to a California trip in 2019, he had been going through a four year-period of addiction.
Citing cash withdrawals, FBI agent Erika Jensen placed the time of Hunter’s trip to California in late April 2019.
Hunter purchased the firearm – the root of the charges against him – in October 2018. In his opening statement, defense attorney Abbe Lowell said prosecutors haven’t shown evidence he was a drug user at the time.
This is another case that should never been brought. The only times it goes to court is when a crime is committed with a gun, which isn’t the case here.

Amen. End of story.
LOL, it's funny that we're on opposing sides of this issue again, but I'm actually glad these charges are being brought. I guess it at least shows consistency, among all of us.

Ehhhh, I don't know that they really ever supported drug addicts lying to get guns. Drug addicts with guns is fine, but falsifying paperwork they won't abide.

Consistency doesn't seem to be something either side is a big fan of.

…unless the paperwork they’re falsifying is about paying off prostitutes by using election funds. Then, go for it!! …but not guns, cuz that’s bad!!!

Pretty sure that is standard operating procedure. Getting caught at it is frowned upon. /purple

If he did it and it broke the law, he needs to be dealt with. Just like Trump needs tried, so does Hunter. There is nothing that I know of in the law that says the son of a president can't be investigated and if found guilty, can't be jailed.

Biden says he won’t pardon son if he’s convicted at trial
President Joe Biden said in an interview Thursday he would not pardon his son, Hunter Biden, if he’s found guilty of criminal federal gun charges.
When asked by interviewer David Muir of ABC if he would rule out pardoning Hunter Biden, the president said, “Yes.”
He also affirmed he would accept the outcome of the trial, currently underway in Delaware.
The courtroom proceedings have delved into a painful moment for the Biden family, as Hunter was struggling with drug addiction in the aftermath of his brother Beau’s death.
First lady Dr. Jill Biden attended the trial before traveling to France to join her husband for D-Day commemoration activities.
The White House had said previously that Biden would not pardon his son.
“I’ve been very clear; the president is not going to pardon his son,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in December.
The president’s son is accused of illegally purchasing and possessing a gun while abusing or being addicted to drugs, a violation of federal law.
He pleaded not guilty to the three charges, though he’s been open about his struggles with alcohol and crack cocaine addiction. The charges were brought by special counsel David Weiss.
It’s the first time in US history that the child of a sitting president has been on trial.
Biden has previously voiced support for his son and said he was proud of his recovery from addiction.
“I am the President, but I am also a Dad. Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today,” the president said in a statement Monday as the trial was getting underway.
“Hunter’s resilience in the face of adversity and the strength he has brought to his recovery are inspiring to us. A lot of families have loved ones who have overcome addiction and know what we mean,” he went on. “As the President, I don’t and won’t comment on pending federal cases, but as a Dad, I have boundless love for my son, confidence in him, and respect for his strength. Our family has been through a lot together, and Jill and I are going to continue to be there for Hunter and our family with our love and support.”
The trial is underway the week after a New York jury returned 34 guilty counts against former President Donald Trump for falsifying business records in an attempt to cover up hush money payments to a porn actress.
Trump has decried the verdict and falsely accused Biden of orchestrating the criminal charges.
In the interview Thursday, Biden accused Trump of trying to subvert the rule of law by questioning the verdict in his own criminal trial.
“He’s trying to undermine it,” Biden told Muir. “He got a fair trial. The jury spoke.”

Yes, true and there is a story out today that if Hunter is found guilty, President Biden will not pardon. I don't know about that, but if it were me and I was the president, just saying
