I like Flacco, but can the Browns sign Joe and sign a top-tier FA receiver that everyone wants? What "everyone wants"? If the Browns are making their decisions on "what everyone wants" they're doing it wrong. I have no idea what positions they want to address in the FA market. I have no idea how many player contracts they will restructure in order to open up more cap room for this year. We won a lot of games with Flacco with the WR's we have currently. I don't think we would have won more games with DTR or P.J. Walker if the WR's were better. The other thing to consider is whether Flacco is as productive under Dorsey. So you think having a weak backup QB is a better option? Yes, it's nice having a quality backup QB. It not only comes at a price to sign. You also have to subtract funds from another position. That's true. It's all about your priorities. And as we saw last year, you won't do anything with crappy backup QB's if your starter goes down. It's almost as if you missed my post entirely. The entire post was predicated on "But hopefully that cost will be something within reason."
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Only in Cleveland. You overpay dearly for a underachieving QB.3 1st RD draft picks. Highest paid QB in NFL history. His claim to fame. Interesting liasons with Houston area massage therapists.
Then you sign a QB off the couch who puts up offensive Numbers in 6 games without the benefit of offseason To learn the playbook. Stats that projected over a full season Equates to Watsons best season in Houston So you have a QB you paid the minimum for but you got max production from considering his lack of explosive weapons
Now that QB wants to be a starter in Cleveland Flacco is Saying HE IS A BETTER QB THAN WATSON .
You can't find 2 QB who are more opposite of each other One has won playoff games and a SB. The other has only been to the playoffs One QB thrives in a structured system The other likes a back yard playbook

Only Flacco didn't say he was after the starting job. We certainly know he isn't asking for starter money of he thinks he can come back to the Browns. And he never claimed to be better than watson. How often do you make this BS up in your own mind?

Another less than average player that Berry has locked into years of dead cap with prorated bonuses. A trade now or even a release after the season will leave the Browns with millions left to apply to the cap in the future. If I'm an opposing team in need of an offensive tackle, trading a 3rd or 4th round pick for Wills on a $1,125,000 show me year contract is a no brainer now.

For anyone that would look at the above breakdown, the last two columns are a calculated system based on if he was cut pre/post June, traded, etc. In the above instance, it shows if he were to be cut pre-June 1. https://overthecap.com/player/jedrick-wills/8750

A trade makes all the prorated bonus money due to the Browns cap since they are the ones that restructured the deal. A cut post June 1st would have a dead cap of $4,182,152 in 2024 and a dead cap hit of $11,771,256 in 2025. A trade in 2024 would leave the Browns with a dead cap hit of $14,828,408 pre-June 1st and a dead cap hit of $3,057,152 in 2024 and $11,77,256 in 2025 with a post June 1 trade (the trading team would be responsible for the new $1,125,000 base salary generated by Berry's restructure). The window for picking up the 5th year option is from the end of the regular season to an appointed time in the beginning of May just after the NFL draft. Once a players fifth-year option is exercised, it is fully guaranteed as is the base salary for the players fourth year of their contract. Berry restructuring Wills doesn't change the fact that the entire amount is guaranteed for cap purposes, must be accounted for, and will have add-ons on all the previous prorated bonuses. You cannot trade prorated bonuses so the Berry's new restructure on Wills keeps the Browns on the hook for $14,828,408 with a trade or $15,953,408 without to be applied to the cap over the next 2 years to part ways with Wills either by trade, cut, or contract end after this season. Just a note: if Berry hadn't restructured Wills, he could have traded Wills and his guaranteed base salary of $14,175,000 this year and applied those savings to the salary cap and only incurred $1,778,408 in total dead cap but that boat has sailed now.

it might be a combo of who they lost and who from the FO got hired (I don't know the answer to either of them)
In terms of Flacco: I would love to sign him as the backup.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

So, the niners get a 3rd, 4th, 5th and 2 6ths? Who did they lose to get that haul? San Francisco got a third-round pick, a fourth-round pick, a fifth-round pick and two sixth-round picks this year, adding the most draft capital of any team in the league. The 49ers were one of two teams, along with the Rams, that benefited from the NFL rule awarding a third-round compensatory picks to teams that develop a minority candidate who gets hired away as a head coach or G.M. on another team.
If it's not Chaos, it's not Cleveland.

Not sure how I feel about this, he's been quite an underachiever.
Edit: well for only a 5th and a 6th he's worth a shot.

I’m good with a 5th and a 6th.
Don’t know if it’s the same pick, but we traded Dobbs for a 2024 5th rounder

I'm not sure either but the kid is only 24 and certainly looks like a legit #2 WR at worse. I can't complain about that for the price tag.

Last year, Denver wanted a second if I recall correctly. Also, I think the Browns will need to make a decision on whether or not to pick up his fifth year option. This is the last year of his contract. He is only 24.

On the surface this looks like a really good move.
A 5th and 6th is not much help for this season. Juedy is only 24. He was drafted 15th overall. He is 6'1" 193. Ran 4.46 played for Alabama.
He has been productive in Denver and did not have very good quarterback play.
We all know this is the time for all in with DW. Keeping Wills and trading for Jeudy is more tools around DW to help him succeed.
This gives us Cooper, Jeudy, Moore and Njoku with Tillman and Bell backing up. We have others and still may draft a receiver. So this is no doubt an upgrade.

While I believe they may sill draft a WR I think it takes a second round pick at WR off the table.

I agree. This is a good move and now, IMO, we will probably use our 2nd on D. Of course, it still matters on whom we sign in FA but the trade gives us options.

Yup. Unless he earns an extension, it is a 1-year rental with a $13M cap hit..... so, expect a new deal to happen shortly after he gets here that turns that $13 million into a signing bonus and adds a year or three.

Browns go with a vet WR instead of early in the draft (most likely anyway) with the team being in win now mode. Jeudy has been a disappointment to date in his career, but he was cheap to acquire and hopefully a change of scenery propels his career forward.

This is the last year of his contract. He is only 24. Yea, it was supposedly a second. I love the patience Berry has had the past few years. He hasn't been perfect, which means he's human lol. However, he and his staff have done an excellent job of running the business. - They've done a great job of managing the cap and keeping pieces in place. - They've used their mid-round picks to add pieces through trades (this trade has low risk, high upside). Za'Darius Smith, Cooper, Hopkins to name a few. - Brought in solid vets with great work ethic/locker room presence - Always actively trying to improve the team by churning the bottom of the roster - Every off season they've attacked their perceived weak positions by going all out and turning it into a strength

In college Jeudy was a total stud at Alabama. He actually patterned his game off Cooper.
Last season Denver wanted a first for him. Now Denver is in a rebuild. Steal for 5th and 6th.
I don't know about rumors but Jeudy may have been a problem? I see it as a one year trial.
See if he is hungry. He is young and should be hungry for a long term deal.
He has speed and good size.
Moore we traded a second for and he didn't do much. Getting Jeudy puts Moore where he belongs which is in the slot. Jeudy is a good compliment to Cooper. He has 4.46 speed. He is a good route runner.
I like the move because Jeudy has the talent to be good.

Nice pick-up.
Jeudy didn't meet expectations in Denver, but now at a lower cost he will meet expectations here. He should be a solid #2 across from Coop.
