Hey all,
I hurt my back the other day at work. I didn't think it was serious, just a muscle pull. Thats what it even felt like the next day when I worked, but it hasn't gone away.
I have sharp pains in my lower back that radiate to my right hip when I move certain ways. I don't have health insurance, so I dont know what to do. Just curious if you guys have any ideas to help me out, Thanks!

Sounds like a pulled muscle to me. If it's been three days, use heat and ask your doctor about taking an anitinflamitory (I have to say that). Pulled muscle soreness can hang around quite a while and start to feel worse instead of better for a few days. And, of course, massage therapy will help more than anything else. If after a week it isn't better, see a doctor.
Good luck.

If it's radiating down your hip, it's probably pinching the nerve. Over time, it may just go away. If it doesn't, you'll probably need to see a doctor. Taking an antiinflammatory will help, like Michelle said. The doc could put you on a steroid if he thinks your disc is punching the nerve. Just rest and take it easy, give it a few days, and if it's not better after Christmas, give your doc a call.

Get health insurance BEFORE you see a doctor! If it IS serious, you're covered. If it's not? Drop the insurance after your diagnosis. I agree with Michelle that it "sounds" like a pulled muscle. But I too consulted a physician regarding back pain and numbness in my legs. Now I have a rod inserted in my lower spine and degenerative disk disease in my middle back. The rod in my lower spine limits my bending, which in turn creates more work for my middle back. I felt fine after they inserted the rod, but the surgeon told me that it would create an acceleration of the DDD I already had. Sure enough, it has. You can get a policy for a month and have it checked out. That, or risk tens of thousands and possibly hunderds of thousands of dollars in medical bills because "you don't THINK" it's THAT serious. Personaly, I didn't expect mine to be that serious. I was floored by it all. Luckily, I had insurance. It's your call. But personaly, I STRONGLY advise you scrape up enough cash to get a policy before seeing a doctor. Because with back pain, you never really know for sure. JMHO

Alright, thanks!
I have some naproxen, I'll take that and see how I feel. I figure if I don't feel better after Christmas, I'll go get it checked. Someone mentioned it might be a herniated disc, but I doubt it. I still get around pretty good, just cant bend certain ways.

If you hurt it at work, and need to see a doc about it, you need to file some workers comp paperwork.

You should have filed something at work right when it happened. I know where I work, if you get injured and don't fill out the paper work within 24 hours, it's all on you.

If it lasts more than a 3 days to a week it is something to check out. Till then use heat/ice and Alieve as needed. I have a very bad back myself and hurt it like you at work. I thought too it was a muscle pull but mine shoots down my legs and into my groin I have had 2 surgeries on L4-L5 and have herniations in the thorasic areas too. Bad stuff man. Nobody knows how bad back pain is till it happens to you Hope you feel better real soon

Thanks for the replies.
They let me do the paperwork today. (my one manager is really cool about stuff) I'm gonna go see a doctor after the holiday just to be safe (its free, might as well).
I think its just a pull though, seems to go away once I move around for a while. That + aleve seems to do the trick. As long as I dont do any heavy lifting hopefully I'll be fine.
