Phil Dawson Rookie year he was 8 or 12 on Field goals with a long of 49 yards, and 23 of 24 on extra points.
Cade York rookie year he was 24 of 32 on field goals with a long of 58 yards and 35 of 37 on extra points. He was also better on kickoffs. A few of his misses were also blocked kicks which were not his fault.
Now does anybody have a problem with York if he continues to put up better numbers than Dawson did??? I mean a lot of guys are ripping him already for having a better rookie season that Dawson.
People don't want to read that. If they work the numbers they will find the numbers don't match the narrative.
It's certainly worth reading. The problem with that is it doesn't present the way things usually work out. Often times people would call that the exception to the rule and not the rule itself. Dawson was a great kicker. But I think if one were willing to look at this from the big picture, kickers having some huge turnaround like Dawson did happens far less often than kickers which falter early who never turn out to be much.
There is certainly a chance that his story could mirror Phil's. But given the odds, I wouldn't bet even money on that happening.
