I think we should kick the tires on this guy. The Jets QB situation has been one of the worst in the NFL and it is not looking better any time soon. I like his size 6'3 and about 210 and as a former 2nd round pick he does have a very nice shill set. Our WR room beyond Cooper aint that impressive. I dont think the asking price would be that high and I certainly don't want to see him in a Raven uniform as has been speculated as a possibility. Could be a low risk high reward situation. Thoughts from the Pound?

I don't know a ton about him, but here are a few things that I remember and looking at some articles:

--He played at Baylor. Not a fan of their WRs.

--Good size and speed.

--Long-strider.

--Can high-point the ball and good on some 50/50 balls.

--Jets were upset w/his knowledge of playbook and questioned work ethic.

--Not physical despite his size---has a hard time separating at LOS.

--Terrible PFF numbers.

I know Rich Cimini (Jets beat writer) has been nearly obsessed about his lack of production and play.

He has the physical tools but has never been impactful.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Mims has had 2 years to develop into a playmaker at WR.
Chances are he will never get to that point.
He has 0 TDs in 2 years.
He has all the physical attributes to be legit threat.
But he probably has poor practice habits and isn't
A student of his position.
The Browns have spent decades taking other teams
WRs and most of the time it's ended in failure.
It's time the Browns start drafting better at WR and
Actually develop some WRs.

Add into those facts that Mims will be a backup for the Jets since he's slotted behind the rookie Wilson currently if they don't just out and out cut him. Dead cap to the Jets would only be $756,000 so no big deal cutting him. I don't have a problem with scouring the cut, waiver, or trade wire for upgrades to the team but picking up another team's discarded trash just to attempt to fill a need isn't very smart. The Browns already have plenty of backup candidates for the WR position, they don't need to go out and get more of the same IMHO.

I still say if you're looking for an upgrade at the WR position the Browns should take a long look at Cole Beasley. He's only been a very reliable and productive WR his entire career. I really have no idea why he's still on the open market so maybe there's something going on here I don't know. He is 33 but I don't think he would be a bad choice one a one or two year deal. Last season he had 82 receptions for 693 yards and a touchdown. He's not a home run guy but he is very reliable in helping move the chains. It looks like that's what the Browns will be looking for at least for the time being and that's always a good ingredient to have on offense.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I've followed the Jets closely since they selected Darnold. Mims has the feel of a poor man's Higgins, if you consider that possible.

It would be a pass for me.

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

There are a lot of people that say he's being blacklisted because of his many controversial COVID comments and refusal to be vaccinated. There is some smoke, Field Yates from ESPN recently posted a list of "notable players still on the open market" and Cole was ghosted. I mean, 82 receptions for 693 yards while catching 73.2 percent of his targets? I'd think he would be "notable", maybe it's just me.

On the other side of the coin, the league has been drafting a tremendous amount of WRs because they're cheap and under control. Veteran, marginal WRs are becoming devalued.

Probably a combination of a number of things. But I'm with you... if you're going to kick tires, he should be on our radar... because of all the points you made above.

I would pass on Mims. I don't think that he would be an upgrade over DPJ, nor does he project to the slot. At best he might be better than Woods II as a rookie.

At this juncture Wims is better than Schwartz.

At this juncture Dobbs is better than Brissett.

What will Stefanski do? Will he play politics and tow the line or will he do what it takes to win? Some may scoff at these assumptions but they're tests for Stefanski just line pulling Baker was. He has a lot to show this season.

I know this is about Wims but it's about Stefanski too. Maybe I'm just obsessed.

He certainly made a statement in his last Pre season game against the Giants with over 100 yds and a TD. Like I stated earlier, may be some untapped talent due to the Jets being even more screwed up organizationally than we are. He was an Adam Gase selection. I think I would trust him on 3rd and 10 more than “thumbs Schwartz”.

Wims is better than Schwartz, so is Mims. Dobbs is not better than Brissett. Dobbs did look good in the preseason games against scrubs. The coaching staff has seen both in the off-season program as well as training camp. They would not be starting Brissett if he wasn’t better.

WR Denzel Mims 'frustrated' with situation on Jets: 'I feel like [the coaches] have made their mind up'

Denzel Mims isn't thrilled he's one of six receivers to make the New York Jets' initial 53-man roster.

Sitting in a backup role, Mims lamented his little chance to earn a starting gig after not playing a single snap with the first-team unit during preseason action.

"I feel like I already pretty much [proved it], from OTAs until now," he said, via ESPN. "I mean, they're pretty set on who they want. ... I feel like, yeah, I feel like [the coaches] have made their mind up, honestly. But I feel like I can change their mind on that. I feel like I've been doing that. Their minds are pretty made up, though."

Mims requested a trade before the club's third preseason game, then went out and had an explosive seven catches for 102 yards and a TD. But nothing has inched Mims any closer to leapfrogging Elijah Moore, Corey Davis, Garrett Wilson or Braxton Berrios on the depth chart.

"Of course, I'm going to be frustrated that I'm not playing with the starters, but I've got to continue to work," Mims said.

The former second-round pick started doing special teams to help his value, but that's not his end goal.

"I have no problem playing special teams, I don't at all, but I feel like I'm a starting receiver," he said.

The Jets have little impetus to trade Mims at this point. They could still ship him somewhere up until the trade deadline. If WR injuries mount, his value could go up. Right now, it's about as low as it could be.

Mims' honest comments about his frustration level could be read as the beginning of a vocal maneuver to force his way out of New York. But Gang Green general manager Joe Douglas isn't worried about Mims becoming a distraction and spun the trade request as a positive.

"I wouldn't say he wants to be somewhere else; he wants to play," Douglas said. "He wants to start. Denzel is very confident. He has voiced that, that he wants to be a starter. Ultimately, you want a team full of guys that feel like they should be the No. 1 guy."

Mims isn't the No. 1 guy. He's not the No. 2, 3 or 4 guy either. And that is the issue for the 24-year-old wideout entering his third season.
