Indians unveil new uniforms for 2008 Posted by Kim Crow November 19, 2007 10:22AM Categories: Indians Cleveland Indians Photo Photo gallery: Indians unveil new uniforms Isn't this curious timing? Just weeks after PDQ asked readers to redesign the Cleveland Indians uniform, the Tribe front office unveils a new look for its alternate home jersey. Oh, Kurt Schloss, director of merchandising for the Indians, will tell you that the team started planning for this new look way back in April, at the behest of general manager Mark Shapiro. Perhaps it is just a coincidence, but PDQ knows the power and influence its readers wield. Regardless of its origins, the Tribe's "Sunday Best" -- to be worn only on Opening Day (March 31), weekends and holidays -- is a handsome return to the classic Indians uniforms of the early 1900s and 1920s. "It's very old-school," says Schloss. "We removed the retail glitter and looked back at the history of the team." Make that modern old-school in the best sense. Made of Coolmax, a breathable fabric, the jersey is cream in color, with a simple block INDIANS across the chest, with a Chief Wahoo logo on the left sleeve. The players' names will not be on the back, just their numbers, and the matching pants are also cream with a simple strip of navy blue down the side. The caps are solid navy blue, adorned with a block C in red. "Mark had a vision," said Schloss of Shapiro. "We looked at where we had been and where we wanted to go. We wanted to get back to a simpler look." All of the Tribe's various uniforms have been tweaked as well in favor of simplicity, losing the metallic silver outlines and other signs of that pesky "retail glitter." But that controversial mascot who constantly grins in the face of adversity remains on a few of the uniforms. "Chief Wahoo is a piece of who we are," says Schloss firmly. "It's not about representing a person or a group, it's about our history." Still, the team has replaced the Wahoo hat with a navy "Script I" cap to go with the alternate road blue tops. The new/old jersey is available for holiday giving at the six team shops found in Northeast Ohio. The authentic version, in the same Coolmax fabric the Tribe will wear, is $180; replica jerseys will be $85. http://blog.cleveland.com/sports/2007/11/indians_unveil_new_uniforms_fo.html

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

We should have a classic look like this every day, not just on selected days. I like them.
I'm sick of Chief Wahoo, even if it is "part of our history". And it's not based on being PC. I just think its old and played. We haven't won a WS since 1948 so I don't see why we need to keep Mr. Wahoo around. IMO, we need a change.

Haha.....I think that's what's throwing me off as well. They look like blue jean hats.

That thing is a 3-bagger,...so maybe it'll get 'em through the ALCS ??
I hang on to Wahoo as long as I'm alive. Screw PC-ness.

Ditto. Keep Chief Wahoo on the hat and those things would be sweet.

I wonder if there starting to shy away from chief wahoo a little. I mean the current ones have a smaller version and now these don't have him at all. Just a thought.
I like em. Nothing special but there pretty cool. I personally like the 1940's and 50's version if they updated

Well, these new "old" uni's do have a Mr. Wahoo on them.

...just an FYI.
And just to be clear, I'm not a "get rid of CW due to PC". I just think he's bad luck.....or at least not giving us good luck. Why so many people are attached to him is beyond me.

No, I saw that. I meant on the caps. The old caps had the Chief real big and then when the introduced the silver to the uni's the Chief was made smaller like they are currently. Now with this it's gone all together on the alt uni's.

The chief is being intentionally minimized. They HAVE to take people's feelings into account (when I say people, I mean native americans) If they find it offensive, then we should get rid of it...after all, it's just a logo, nothing that will change the fortunes of the team. Like was said earlier, we haven't won since '48...there's no need to hang on the chief cheese grin.

I like them... I'll be picking up that 'C' cap for spring training.
I want the Cleveland Browns to be my pallbearers so they can let me down for the last time.

Awsome....I hear they redesigned the hats so they can fit on C.C. head straight this year.

Blech. Poor old Tribe.
If poor means rich beyond our wildest dreams, then I'd concur.
Now only to change my legal name to C-something. I'd be supporting both my team, and my name.
