I’m getting tired of reading about Watson, Baker, the trade, etc.

I wanna talk about D, or as I usually do, “listen” to others talk on DT. :;
So can we talk defence for a bit?

We need to make our DL stronger, which is something we can do in the draft. Getting Clowney back would be very nice, indeed, but we’d still have to upgrade the interior.

We’re good, very good actually, in the backend. Proven safeties, and our corners are very good. Newsome can only get better, Greedy is at least solid, we don’t HAVE to sign Ward so he’s part of our plans obviously. Delpit hopefully will trend further upward in his second season playing after the Achilles.

We have what seems to be a solid linebacker corps, and I am truly excited about what JOK will look like in his sophomore season. He could be our Ray-Ray type of impactful player.

Our D got better as the season went in. Put a Top 5 D with what we expect to be an explosive offence, and who know how far we go?

Thoughts on our defence?

Right now we need to acquire a starting caliber DE (perhaps that will be clowney), a starting caliber DT. A 2nd DT, starting caliber would be nice but at minimum a strong rotational guy. What we are expecting from Taven Bryan? We need another safety, ideally a ball hawking center field type rather than an in the both guy. I think both JJ3 and Delpit can play that role but do not think that ios where they thrive at the most.

I just said in another thread, the DL is a huge issue. We must get Clowney back and get another rotational guy. Not to mention the DT spots. Those were horrible last year.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I agree we are set in the secondary for starters - every chance we still take CB in the draft at some point as "you can never have too many CB's"

I agree we need to know who is going to line up on the other edge opposite MG - imo Clowney back would be a great solution and I have read multiple articles/comments that this is a strong possibility.

Inside at DT an impact starter would be nice - or failing that, stout DT's strong enough to stuff the inside runs even if they aren't making plays in the backfield.

I still would like to see an impact ILB - JOK is great and I am looking forward to seeing him develop. But I would love to see an enforcer type ILB but I don't see where we can get a starter.

Per the OP - the D really came together by the back half of the year. It should spell a fun 2022 season.

We need to plug some holes (especially inside) via FA. Some older vets have just come available.

But what I'm really looking for us to do is infuse some young talent. We need to draft some promising DE/DT prospects. They don't even have to be world-beaters out the gate, just guys that can begin to steal reps end of their first season and take more workload their second season. We need to rely less and less on FA to fill gaping holes.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Damn! I keep forgetting about Elliot. :-p

Hopefully, but we still have more work to do on the Dline. Having the majority of your starters on perpetual 1-year deals is not optimal.
