Before Spinal Tap, Tony Hendra was among a group of talented writers at The National Lampoon during its heyday in the mid 70's. Hendra joined writers like Doug Kenney, PJ O'Rourke, Michael O'Donoghue, Ann Beatts, and John Hughes (who went on to be a renowned Hollywood director). The Lampoon spawned the comedy boom of the late 70's and 80's with TV shows like SNL and SCTV, and a bunch of movies like Animal House, National Lampoon's Vacation, Stripes, and many more. I was sorry to read that he died from ALS. My dad died from that - its an especially hard way to go.

Wow, I just watched the movie yesterday on HBO Max. Still great as ever.
RIP, Ian. Keep that cricket bat handy!
