thanks for the responses. i learned something new. although i do wonder what you all think of your fellow white americans who seem to cling to that identity hard.

White Americans don't cling to it hard. We don't really care.

It's mostly minorities who cling to a false excuse for their failing and blame it on white people. Because they need a scapegoat yo.

I really wonder how much racism has to do with the way people think about colors/teams. Gangs wear different colors, sports teams wear different colors, different militaries wear different uniforms (or in pre-camouflage times wore distinctly different colors.) People see a different color and think different team. Issues are often presented with Black and white being on different "teams." It's not necessarily a conscious consideration, but "different color, different team" seems to be a subconscious shortcut that is constantly reinforced. I'm not sure how we undo that subliminal "programming."

I know this will sound ridiculous, but it's almost like we need hostile aliens to show up to remind us humanity can all be on the same team. ...Sadly, Trump doesn't seem to count.

Not much. As in, usually not even worth responding to (and that's not a high bar to clear).

I think they're scum and call them out often. I am often disappointed that so many of my race refuse to do the same. Some of my race uses distractions to take away from the issue. They try to steer the discussion away from it. Some don't even feel it's worth responding to.

I find all of that quite repugnant.

No, I don't think it's worth it to respond, because then I'm dignifying what they're saying with a response. I refuse to do so. Someone who has both the lack of intelligence to cling to that ideology and make it known... I just don't see the point in simply trying to have the last word with someone like that.

I'm not going to bash your opinion. But let me give you mine....

When you get a sore on your leg and ignore it, it can become infected. If you ignore the infection, gang green can set in. When gang green sets in and you ignore it, you may very well lose that leg.

I've studied enough about history to fully understand what the repercussions of refusing to stand up against such behavior can result in when ignored and left unchecked. What happens when people refuse to stand up against and yes, even wipe this out of their nation.

These things begin slowly. They grow in the shadows and fester. If ignored long enough we have seen the results. I have a grandfather who fought against this same ideology. I understand just how devastating the repercussions can be if ignored long enough.

I do respect what you're saying, and it's worth pointing out that we are on the same side of this fight, just arguing about how to fight it. I just don't think getting in shouting matches is productive. To me, the most vicious slam on someone/something is to say it's not worth your time.

I think if the past 4 years have taught us anything, it's that these beliefs will always persist, and the battle is to make sure it remains in the shadows where it belongs. Responding gives it attention. I say let it stay in the shadows and rot.

I understand what you're saying about my leg, but there are also plenty of things that will go away on their own.

I think the responses should be situational. Ignore it when it is insignificant (because you aren't going to change opinions in those situations and all you end up doing is getting people to dig in), discuss it when appropriate (you won't change opinion at that time but in the right situation you can get people thinking and maybe down the road they will change their minds), and actively intervene when you see someone trying to act how those beliefs.

I was certainly never under the impression we were on different sides concerning the actual topic. If that was the impression I gave you, I'm sorry for that. We just disagree on the response or lack there of.

And I understand your point as well. But as we see from this news today, it isn't in the shadows. It isn't rotting. I could give you plenty of sources, but this movement is on the rise. It's growing in strength and numbers.

The FBI ranks it as the #1 terrorist threat in our country. I'm an old dude. I've always lived a life and was taught to stand up for what I believe in and stand against things that are wrong. And when it comes to a threat to democracy I feel a special duty to do so.

I don't expect you to agree with me. I don't try to set my self as some example others should follow. I'm pretty much a "You do you" kind of person. Whatever works for you should be how you conduct yourself.

And maybe you think I'm overstating the threat these kinds of things pose to our democracy. But still, all in all those are my feelings. I've seen it in action for four years now slowly eating away to the norms we all grew up with. As such, I feel it's my duty as an American to stand against it.

Fairly accurate. The infection (racism) needs to be treated to prevent spreading.

How do you treat racism? Big damn sticks to beat them with? Or a bullet to the brain? I don't see how you treat it at all. You just have to make it so shameful that one single racist post on social media will make it harder to get a job than being an excon or a pedo. I think extreme racists should be treated like pedophiles with a registry and the works. A 3 strikes thing, then you are on the list.

This is why extremists like you need to be stamped out.

By teaching your children that it's WRONG. By setting a good example for our children. That's how you wipe out racism.

That's horrifying when you consider what can pass for racism lately.

Most of them will use anything they can to avoid the actual topic. You know, they mirror old Pokapornstar that way.

KKK ‘social visit’ cards left at Biden supporters' homes

Joe Biden supporters in Tennessee have been targeted with Ku Klux Klan business cards in an apparent attempt at voter intimidation.

Speaking to local radio station WPLN News, Shelbyville resident Breana Green said she noticed the disturbance outside her neighbour’s home, who supports the Democratic presidential nominee.

According to Ms Green, a yard sign in support of Mr Biden was tampered with, whilst the yard outside her neighbour’s home had been littered with businesses cards that carried the Ku Klux Klan name.

The cards carried a statement threatening a second visit, and read: “You have been paid a social visit by the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. Don’t make the next visit a business call.”

Ms Green, a community activist and organiser, said that whilst her neighbours are white, the Klu Klux Klan material felt like intimidation.

“I was really startled by it and also kind of scared,” she told WPLN. “I can’t imagine the folks in Shelbyville who are people of colour, how they are feeling. They must be feeling really scared,”

She added: “I want to make sure the community comes together to make them feel like they are welcome.”

Shelybville’s police department dismissed those concerns, and said the Ku Klux Klan material should be regarded as “trash”.

“We don’t believe that it’s targeting specific races. We believe that it’s targeting certain neighborhoods that would even be predominantly white,” said Brian Crews, the deputy police chief. “I think most people just view it as trash.”

Despite that statement, Mr Crews said residents should report any other sightings involving the Klu Klux Klan to the police department.

And whilst the business cards cannot be proven to be official material created by the white supremacist group, the town has played host to “White lives matter” protests in the past.

It comes three weeks before a presidential election in which president Donald Trump has labelled Black Lives Matter activists as “thugs”, endorsed Confederate symbols, and refused to denounce white supremacists.

Shelybville isn't far from where I live. You can try and explain how things are where you live, but people will dismiss it because people think because it isn't that way where they live, it can't be that way somewhere else. False.

And don't expect the cops to help you unless it's after they killed somebody. The threat of violence and intimidation is simply part of the landscape.

I keep telling liberals to arm themselves.
