I was working a flight to Norfolk a couple of days ago and I met a former Cleveland Browns player by the name of Bill Hamilton. He was a very nice man. He wanted to know the score of the Cleveland Indians/ Yankee game and I got it for him from the pilots. I told him I was a big Cleveland sports fan and that's when he let me know he played for them. I believe he said he played for them in the 70s. He showed me his Cleveland Browns ring and is going to send me 2 sideline tix to any Browns game I choose because I game him some snacks on the flight because coach was serving none and he was really hungry.

I called him today (he gave me his address & phone number) to tell him that
I would like to go to the SF vs. CLE game on December 30th. He was sick with a cold so I didn't talk to him long. So if any of you knowledgable Dawg Talkers have heard of him, could you post some info. here on him? I tried Googling his name and even used "William" Hamilton to no avail. Also, he is sending me an autographed photo of him and of Jim Brown. So, I when I come to Cleveland, I would like to finally meet some of you Dawg Talkers on Dawg Talk Island!!!

Here's the all-time roster from browns.com for players names that begin with "H":

I was gonna say, I don't have his football card, in addition to never having heard of him before.

My bet is he was a low drafted rookie or walk-on that never made it through camp, maybe got in a pre-season game, or was on the old "taxi-squad." I will look at the NFL draft site,....

Thanks. That's what I was thinking. I asked him what he thought about the NFL retirement package and he says he gets $115 a month from the NFL!!! I mean he showed me his NFL Cleveland Browns ring. He mentioned something about being drafted in the 17th round...I'm trying to remember the conversation.

If he gets 115 a month from the NFL, then he had to have appeared in games.

Here's the players drafted with their names starting with the letter "H"

And here's the Browns history, only 1 Hamlilton - and that'd be Justin. There's a Willie Hamilton drafted by the Cowboys in 1975.

Here's another link - of "H" players.

or same one for the Browns

Didn't see a Bill Hamilton

Thanks for trying all...I'll find out what he is about later on this week and ask him when he "played". He could be one of those all talk type of people.

Hey Slim:
If it turns out he's a fraud, I'll set you up with seats at the 50, or even a private box if you'd like.

Kindest regards,
B. Sipe

I hope the guy is not a fraud and there's just some miscommunication about what he really did/was with the Browns. Please keep us posted as to the real story here Slim.

That's BS -- you should have called him out on the carpet. I know I would have.

Good job though, protecting your friends' addresses and numbers,....

In always have fun with habitual liars like that. Start asking them questions that the real person would really know, and then turn the tables on them when they obviously wrong answer. Sometimes you don't even have to tell the truth yourself.

"What's your kids name?"
"Jennifer"
"That's funny, your bio said you had a son"

or ...

"Your college town is great, I've been there! Where's your favorite hangout in that town?"
"Uh, that one bar?"
"Which bar?"
"Uh, Joe's"
"There's no Joe's in that town! Where is that??"

... etc.

Well he's not listed as having been an Assistant coach for the Browns.

I'll keep you posted on what happens. I just find it odd that he asked about the Indians score and I told him I was a fan and he happened to have a Cleveland Browns ring on...
