Out of my way, I need to get up on my soapbox for a sec.... don't mean to get on your case, specifically... this kinda irritates me (not in a "we gotta save the world" way, but more a "people are dumb" kinda way). Allow me to explain.

Bees have been dying by the bajillions for roughly a decade, but now that some clown has attached a catchy name to a foreign predator, we're all of a sudden worried about the bees? Rampant pesticide use has weakened bees to the point that colonies are unable to fight off new diseases and parasites. More bees have died because of what we spray on our own food than any nightmare-bug could hope to kill. My dad (and therefore, myself) keep beehives, and I don't remember anyone else (in-person or on any forums) talk about helping pollinators. I've heard a handful of people talk "Murder Hornets" and their threat to bees not realizing that the bee apocalypse has been going on for a little while now.

Have you all seen the videos showing the defense the native Japanese honeybees have developed against this predator? It's pretty wild. Bees are so cool.

Even if they are here, they can't be much bigger and meaner than the Yellow Jacket Wasps we get here in Northeast Ohio every late summer-early fall. Those bastages dive-bomb your head, neck, and face, sting you 2-3 times, and fly away laughing.

Uh, that article is extremely misleading.

They killed a colony (in BC), which is good... but that means they were here, and we don't know for how long. There could be offspring from that colony that haven't been found.

Addiitonally, there were 2 more found. One was dead and confirmed to be different from the colony that was killed. Of the two, one was dead and one flew away. That was in Dec 2019... so I chuckled at the "no hornet seen in 2020" line.


That said, I think the basis of your post is that the impact of these hornets is probably being totally exaggerated. And I'd agree with you.
