Sometimes I talk about this with my friends and my family who are browns fans. Imagine that you could pick ANY three players in the NFL to be on the Browns. You can pick any three regardless of cap implications. Who would you choose? Now, this is a kinda fun thing to think about, but it also gives an idea of WHAT areas of need we all think need adressed.
1. Peyton Manning. He would be my first choice to start ANY franchise, and he would be such a good fit for Cleveland. We desperately need a franchise QB, and with our weapons, I think he would shine like he does in INDY.
2. Ladainian Tomlinson. I know he is struggling this year, but with our improved line, he would be UNREAL i think. We would have such a balanced attack...we would be unstoppable IMO. Plus, he would be the future because he is still young.
3. Casey Hampton. I had to take a defensive player (actually wanted to take 2 but LT is too good to pass up). But our dline is by FAR our biggest weakness IMO. He is the top DT for a 3-4 in the NFL, so he would be a definite choice. Plus, he's still young AND we'd take him away from our divisional rivals.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

DT- Vince Wilfork would be my choice at Nose
OLB- Demarcus Ware, imagine this guy and Wimbley on the same team.
CB- Asante Samuel, the guy is pretty much as good as it gets at Corner.

So is that any three players to add to our team in it's current state?
If so then I would take Ladainian Tomlinson, Richard Seymour and Troy Polamalu. Gee now that I think about it all those player COULD be on our team right now. Thank's Butch.
But if we were just picking players to start from scratch
I would say Peyton Manning, Casey Hampton and Shawn Merriman. I would pick LT but with Manning people would have to respect him so much we could just plug almost anyone in there.

Wow, good question. Tough one.
I think the 3 most important positions would probably be a QB, a shutdown corner, and either a LT/RB.
I think we have our LT/RB right now, so I would sub that in with our weakest position- NT. In all fairness, Brady Quinn hasn't started yet, so this is by NO MEANS a rip or lack of faith in him. He could end up being great, and I have a feeling he may live up to his hype. But you need a franchise QB, and that man is....
1. Peyton Manning
My next position is a shutdown corner. There's a few of them out there....Nate Clements, Champ Bailey, even a Rashean Mathis, but the guy I'd go with would be...
2. Asante Samuel
Our weakest spot IMO is our DL, and the anchor is the NT. So to steady our DL you need a solid NT. There's a few guys out there, Hampton, Wilfork, but it's tough to find a solid NT for the 3-4. I'd have to go with.....
3. Vince Wilfork.

1. Ed Reed. Best safety in the game. 2. Marion Barber III. Kid is young and runs like someone just kicked his dog. I think he's the best runner in the game. Forget Julius Jones, forget LT, this kid is dynamite. He doesnt go down. 3. Derrick Johnson or Donnie Edwards. Together, the Chiefs D is suddenly very solid. I'd take either. I find it not a surprise that Edwards leaves SD and comes to KC and KC's D gets better and SD's D gets way worse. There's my 3, AND, they'd not break the bank either Well maybe Ed Reed.

haha it was tough for me not to pick a CB as well...it is definitely an area of concern. And someone else made a good point about Manning would make any RB good...really good idea.

The 2 best Defensive Tackles and the best Nose Guard (in a 3-4 D) in the league. Not sure of their names.

Just adding to the existing team
Tom Brady - Sure Anderson is playing well enough, and we have Quinn learning the offense - but Brady is a known quantity and he's arguably the best in the game along side of his arch rival Peyton Manning.
Kevin Williams - Simply put, the best defensive tackle in the game. Can he adjust to become NT though? If not, I'd substitute with Jamal Williams, NT from San Diego.
I'm torn on the 3rd...it'd be one of Julius Peppers or Champ Bailey or Ed Reed . If Julius is healthy, he is definitely a freak. Champ is simply the best cover corner in the league, and Reed is simply the best safety in the league. The question is, who would we need most of these 3?

The only thing is (and I'm terrible at knowing whether DLinemen are good in different schemes) would peppers fit into the 3-4 scheme like ours? Or does his talent transcend everything?

i agree. this is pretty much all we are lacking majorly. i'm very happy with our team's progress so far, and this is the only area that i can say doesn't need playing time to gel and get better. i think all of our other positions are mostly manned with guys that just need time to learn and grow. we have most of the "core" of our team in place now. now we just need to play.

Peppers is a great talent, but he's been awfully quiet so far this season and the second half of last season.

Jeeze....
Uh...
1. Peyton Manning OR Tom Brady, either are really good.
2. Whoever you may consider the best Nose Tackle
3. Whoever you may consider the best free safety.

1) Carson Palmer- He is a younger version of Peyton and Tom, and will outlast either.
2) Shawne Merrimen: Absolute beast, will get to the QB.
3) Vince Wilfork: If you can get to the QB consistently you don't have to worry about covering their WR's.
Go Browns!!

Shawne Merriman, Richard Seymour, and Vince Wilfork. If I had a fourth, I would take Ed Reed. I would take Carson, but with Anderson playing as well as he is, with Quinn in the wing, I decided to go defense.
