I don't know either of the combatants from adam, but it appears mrbrinkm is digging himself into a hole.

I always find this particular subject funny on here, as well as somewhat pathetic.

You're right. I did by going with the Dell bundle that most closely matched the Mac from the start instead of building it from the cheaper bundle.
I went and quoted the same bundle adalmon did with the free 19" and came to a $3,355 for the Dell and $3,347 for the Mac with the most similar selections. The Free 19" LCD combined with the 20" would put that at a better deal.
What was the original point again

It's $3,146.00 with the monitor I quoted originally (2007WFP). Looks like you changed the monitor to the 2007FP, which is a 4:3 monitor. That's how you got the $3,346.00 total. Apples don't come with 4:3 monitors so your selection of the 2007FP instead of the 2007WFP was off-base. The resolution of the 2007WFP matches the resolution of the 20" Apple Cinema Display on the Mac Pro (1680 x 1050).
Total Price Sub-total $3,146.00 with two monitors

I went with a more advanced video card (only $61 more) and the second Nic ($49) along with the sound card ($99). Everything else was exactly like I posted before with the two monitors like you quoted. I did it twice to make sure that I didn't move the first monitor.
I believe that to be a more accurate comparison to the Mac Pro, with the Dell being a better value.

I found the problem. I just edited my last post. Dell's model numbers on monitors are too similar.
Try your configuration with the free 19" and add a 2007WFP.

Nope, I used the 2007WFP. The total for the video card difference, nic, and sound card is the $209 between yours ($3,146) and mine ($3,355). At this price point, it's a minor difference in cost.
to expand on my "I believe it's a more accurate..." the increase for the video card (to a Quadro FX550) I believe is worth the $61 and would make for a more accurate comparison of the hardware/OS combo for video, the nic cost was to match the dual lan, and the sound card would match (probably exceed but I haven't found the actual chip used for the Mac onboard audio) stereo output of the Mac.

All this discussion and I still wouldn't buy either of them The naysayers win. Geek-out.

I wouldn't either. The Mac would be good for a graphic design pro, the Dell would be good for a CAD pro. I'm neither.
