I just got a call from a "tweener" band through Ticketmaster. It was a bot call. I called back ready to yell and scream, but there was an automated choice to remove your number from their list.

Umm, why are they doing this? Is it because I bought football tickets once from them TWO YEARS AGO?

My understanding is this. If you have requested infomation, or if you have done business with a company in the past, even if your number is on the Do No Call list, they will not be punished for calling you. It's not considered a violation until you've told them to stop.

I beleive I'm right about this,,,, But you may want to check with someone like the BBB..

I'm guessing a tweener band would be like Hannah Montana

You are.

It is simply a business calling on customers.

I have that problem with the Cavs...they call me all the time trying to sell me on some sort of limited season ticket package.

This is why I normally use an old phone number when entering my information.

The one time I didn't was with the Browns. I've gotten two automated calls from them bugging me about season tickets. The next one I just may have to report them.

I kinda thought so,, But I haven't given much thought to it since I signed up for it originally,

Seems to me I remember that the Do Not Call list is only good for 5 years or something like that.. then you have to renew it again... At least I think that's the case

We are getting calls from a certain organization and we have told them to take our name off their list. They said they would but there would be a waiting period of about a month which meant they kept calling us for that entire month. Is that legal?

The short answer for you Mantis is no. Here is the text from the relevant part of the Do Not Call list FAQ's:

Quote:

My number is on the National Do Not Call Registry. After I bought something from a company, a telemarketer representing that organization called me. Is this a violation?

No. By purchasing something from the company, you established a business relationship with the company. As a result, even if you put your number on the National Do Not Call Registry, that company may call you for up to 18 months after your last purchase or delivery from it, or your last payment to it, unless you ask the company not to call again. In that case, the company must honor your request not to call. If they subsequently call you again, they may be subject to a fine of up to $11,000.

An established business relationship with a company also will be created if you make an inquiry to the company, or submit an application to it. This kind of established business relationship exists for three months after the inquiry or application. During this time, the company can call you.

If you make a specific request to that company not to call you, however, then the company may not call you, even if you have an established business relationship with that company.

The last line is a very important one. If you tell the business that you want to stop calling something like "The number you called me on is listed on the Do Not Call list and, even though I have a business relationship with you, I do not wish to receive marketing calls from you." That should end the phone calls immediately, not in a month. The original registration with the Do Not Call list is not effective until after 31 days, but that time frame does not apply to someone on the list that wants a company to stop calling them when they have an existing relationship.

One thing that should be remembered is that your registration with the Do Not Call list expires after five years from the date that you registered the number. You can re-register the same number at anytime and that will reset the five year time period.

{Edit}
I write that line about the registration expiring and then run across an article about a few minutes later.

Mantis, I know that originally, when I signed up for the Do Not Call thing, I was told that it would take up to 3 months for the calls to stop.. and it did take about that amount of time..

But when one slipped through the cracks and I told them I was on the DNC list, they always apologized and said the would remove my number from the list right away,,, And I didn't get any more calls from them..

So, my question is, did you sign up for the list? If you did, then they should be able to remove you right now rather than waiting a month or so.

Keep track of the calls then report them and see what happens...Should be interesting I think

Let us know

Non Profit organizations are exempt from the Do Not Call list. All you have to do is request that you be place on THEIR Do Not Call list. i.e. Leukemia Society, American Cancer Society etc.

Which reminds me, I need to call all the political offices and remove my telephone number from their databases. I'm tired of robot political calls and I CERTAINLY don't want that slime Hillary calling me every day.

Can't say as I blame you. I need to put our work # on the DNC list cuz we keep getting these total whackjobs trying to sell us crap. When I tell them they have reached a business they ignore me and continue their BS speil.

Don't forget that you can put your cell phone # on the DNC list also.

Here's another way to get them to stop calling. When they do call tell them that the # they used is your business phone. They are not allowed to call businesses to solicite and get in huge troube if they do. They hang up pretty quickly and don't call back.

Yeah, we signed up a few years ago. But after reading atomic's post I remembered that they are a non-profit organization. I suppose that exempts them from legal action? Well, I guess the only real defense against all of them is the caller ID.
