I must have missed something....where is all the uproar for RAC's head. After all, he doesn't get the team ready to play, he shows no emotion, he's lost on the sidelines......did someone forget all that? Seriously, this is mostly to Pit, but you asked for why I think RAC can be a successful head coach. You just witnessed it yesterday. All the controversy, all the negativity, all the turmoil of the trade and backlash from the "fans" last week....yet RAC has his team motivated, inspired, and ready to play.

Coach are you referring to the RAC that was supposed to be a defensive genius??
I sure as hell didnt see him yesterday. People calling for RAC's head after last week was based on the cumulative results they have seen. The win yesterday doesnt change a thing for most of us.

Assasin, PLEASE, maybe we should add the crowd favorite Grantham for giving up almost 100 points in 2 games(79 to be exact). Maybe instead of all of that hoopin, hollerin, and jumping up and down, he can call some coverages!! What yesterday proved was apparently the coaching staff can get there players motivated to play each week, despite the bad show of the first week. Of course all the RAC haters will not be showing up!

Maybe we should.... but we also have already saw how RAC would handle a problem with one of his coordinators with the Carthon debacle. Maybe RAC should start taking more of an active role in the defense

The "cumulative results" that started threads after week 1. Funny how one loss set the wheels in motion and it was suddenly silenced after one win.

CoachB, look man, I like your posts, they are usually pretty informative and knowledgable even if I don't always agree with them. But today you need to lay-off calling people out. I was one of the ones getting ready to jump off the Romeo boat, the reason why, because we looked like crap last week, plain ol' horrible, this week.........well, let's just say we looked a whole lot better. There are still things we need to see though: Can this team win back-to-back games? Can our defense improve over the past two games? Can DA be consistant? I am sure there are more that I am missing. My piont is, this is ONE GAME, just like last week was ONE GAME. Alot of people on this board were getting ready to jump ship last week, I was one of the ones looking for a life-jacket before I jumped, but this ship is still in trouble. I don't think anyone is ever going to quit on the BROWNS, they just want to see something worth rooting for........and yesterday, Romeo, Anderson, and several others gave us a taste of what it could be like. We are all fans of the same team after all.

CoachB - I think for a lot of us - our patience is thin. There is a lot of talent on the roster. Last week, was yet another miserable kick in the teeth... in a long line of kicks to the teeth. One victory does not absolve all sins.
The team needs to be competitive on a weekly basis. The team needs to win more than 6 games.
This next week should be interesting.

Personally, I want to know what happened to our D.
The last 2 seasons, the only thing keeping us in most games was our D. And then this year they seem to be lost.
And while RAC may be a defensive guy, it is Grantham's D, how much input does RAC have in it?

Coach, Here is a link for the people who swear he cannot coach: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/peter_king/09/16/mmqb/3.html Quote:
leveland QB Derek Anderson and Cleveland RB Jamal Lewis. "Romeo was great last night,'' Anderson said via cell phone after the game, speaking of coach Romeo Crennel. "Calm, reassuring. I think he thought we'd go out and play really well today.''
What most people do not get is that you can coach your butt off but if you do not have TALENT, your going to win very few games, or even compete. I often ask people, and they usually shy away from the answer, How many Browns can start or even play second string on the teams in THIS DIVISION?? Probably nor more that about 4 of our starters. SO if people want to see this team really compete, get better talent! But of course, we should be pulling 51-48 games out of a HAT!..LMAO!!
Also -> where are the fire Grantham threads since he is the D coordinator and has given up 79 points in 2 games?? Maybe he should jump less!!

Actually, the "cumulative results" discussions started last year. Week one didn't help.
It was a good win for the team, and a vital win for RAC, but this win doesn't take him off the hot-seat. It sure doesn't negate all the things he's done wrong, and if anything, it's further proof that he chose the wrong QB during pre-season, which brings us back to why he's in this position to begin with.....

I know it was only one game. That's why I'm taking the jabs and they're really aimed at two people (Pit and Peen) in jest for what they did all last week. The knee jerk reaction last week is why I posted it this week. If it weren't a knee jerk reaction last week, they'd still be talking about how terrible he is.

Well apparently you did not watch a single pre-season game because everyone else saw 2 qbs who were inconsistent and only to have CF win the job due to DA poor play in the games. DA was suppose to have a leg up as preseason started but DID not do it in ANY of the preseason games! Hell, look on the CB website and pull up the article about "The one that got away" where DA says that he has been streaky!! SO I guess RAC/CHUD was suppose to know that DA had a performance like this in him, since he did so poorly in preseason!...GMAFB!!!

Did you expect anything less? RAC responds to all the turmoil by having the team play up to their abilities and he's still wrong. Win or lose, there's a way to blame him and label him as not doing a good job. It's sad when people have to find fault no matter what. We just put up FIFTY ONE freaking points and there are still points to try to find some way to blame RAC for something.

What you nor I saw was how DA played in practice, how he conducted himself in the huddles, how he related to the teammates.
If Frye was so poor that they had to dumb-down the playbook because he couldn't meet the physical requirements, the team chose the wrong guy long before week 1 actually got here.
Setting all that aside, RAC is the guy responsible for making the right call. I didn't say it was easy, but being a hard decision doesn't excuse choosing the wrong guy.
Quite frankly, I believe that if Frye was a 6th round selection of another team and acquired at the same time as Anderson, Frye wouldn't have been handed the start. That's also a problem, and RAC should have known better.
B, I hear ya, you sarcastic sob

Offensively: Thomas, Steinbach, Edwards, Winslow, Lewis Defensively: Wimbley, Bodden, Jones Special: Cribbs, Zastudill
I would say at LEAST 10 players would start for other teams in our division.
As for how many could be 2nd teamers... a ton. This team has talent - as evidenced yesterday.

I don't know that I agree with your draft status comment. The Browns have not been shy about cutting draft picks. The Seahawks wanted Frye. Holmgren 'supposedly' knows QBs. We shall see. Everything we read coming into this season made it clear - neither QB was doing ANYTHING to win the job. Frye ended up as starter by default - not because he did anything especially well. Let's not anoint Anderson after 1 game. Anderson looked great against the Chiefs last year. What did he do in subsequent weeks? Nothing. We should all hope DA can play well enough to take this team into the bye week.

before we all get into a RAC made a wrong decision, let's also remember this is a new Offense, preseason game 1 was their first time using it, and so on. Not to mention when we drafted Frye we were using Carthon's O, which everyone thought would be a run dominated offense, with short game control passes, the O Charlie would probably be best at.
I think RAC went with the lesser of 2 evils at the time, based on what he saw in preseason, practice, and the meetings.
And for all we know, this Seahawks deal was in the works, and they were hoping to showcase Frye a little bit, and yanked him before he got hurt and totally screw up any trade chance.
None of us knows all the factors that went into picking Frye for last week, and it may have come down to the fact that he had more starting experience, and nothing more than that.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

very good point, but lets consider the timming. We lay an egg on opening day, in our house, against our rival.
Romeo has bought himself another week. History shows when this guys back is against the wall the team plays for him. The fans and media need to keep the campfire going.

Agreed. But why Frye over Anderson? Because Frye was the starter the previous year, and he was the starter because he was a 1st day draft choice.
Setting that aside, here's what makes me scratch my head.
I always felt that Frye didn't have the arm to make it as a good starter. I'd hopes that he could do enough with his legs and his competitive fire to make up for his physical limitations. He couldn't. Now that Savage has come out and said that we can use the entire playbook because Anderson has the arm, it's a direct indictment against Frye. If they had to limit the playbook, he was never the right guy.
I don't care for Anderson. Never have. He has a long history of looking good one day then bad the next. But the one thing that he has always had over any other QB's on this roster was the ability to play in a pro-style sytem. He made some amazing throws yesterday, throws that Frye couldn't make.
In my book, if one QB looks no better than the other, but one means we have to dump part of the playbook, the answer would have been easy for me. I would have hoped that it would have been easy for Crennel, but he chose poorly.
Now I really don't care whether or not the Seahawks wanted Frye. That doesn't mean he's good and we blew it. They thought enough of David Green to spend a first day pick on him, and were dead wrong. They only felt that Frye was worth a 6th rounder now. That's not exactly a glowing endorsement. Besides, do we know that teams weren't interested in Anderson? My point is that it's all speculation.
The only thing we know for sure at this point is that Frye looked lost and Anderson looked found, and though I know Anderson wouldn't have done that against Pittsburgh, he was ready to play, which is something Frye wasn't ready to do. That means RAC chose the wrong guy, no matter the reasons.
I'd love to see RAC get his damned defense in order. For all the success Lewis has had in Cincy, he's SUPPOSED to be a defensive mastermind, and he's no longer an untouchable coach. His defenses have been poor, and he's underwhelmed as a HC in that regard. RAC suffers from the same thing. Sad but true.
I like that the team won, and I like that it took a little heat off of RAC, but it doesn't change his situation, and if goes out and loses to the Raiders, what happened against the Bungals won't mean a thing.
The bottom line for RAC is that he needs to get his defense together. No matter how many games he wins, I'll never believe he's competent with his choices when it comes to coaches, personnel, or game-day management. There's just too much negative evidence in that regard. Still, if he can get his defensive house in order, it'll be enough for me (for now ).

Toad, Frye looked much improved in the pre-season. He was reading defenses, hanging in the pocket, checking down, and calling audibles into the right plays against the D. He looked light years ahead in these areas than he's ever been. So, I can see why they chose him as the starter. It didn't transfer onto the field, but it was happening in pre-season and gave reason for optimism.

Well Coach it is his job. So he did it yesterday.....BFD. How many times have we saw his team on the field looking lost, ill-prepared and undisciplined? I dont think Randy Lerner is paying him to win 2 division games every three seasons and looking ridiculous while doing it. Then there is that defense thing or lack thereof.
Quote:

Coach we really dont have to look real hard to find faults with this team over the last 2 seasons. Quite the contrary it has been difficult to find anything of substance or instances where it is palpable that Crennel can be a decent head coach.

Yes, it will be enough for you guys until you can find something else to blame him for no matter what happens.
BFD? The guy coached his way through a huge week of turmoil and strife, brought his team together and beat a divisional rival by putting up FIFTY ONE points. Like I said, there were no fire RAC posts until after the Steelers game. That is knee jerk reaction no matter how you dress it up.

No,nothing is "silenced". It's the same as it ever was. Two years ago in Cini we came up just on the short end of a similar shoot out. So what? The effort was there two years ago "occasionaly".
Nobody cares about "one game". We've seen RAC pull off "one game" ten times now. Make that 11.............
What the vast majority of people said "before the season started" that they wanted to see "steady progress" from RAC.
If "steady progress week in and week out is what we get, that will be fine. If not? He needs to go.
Your sense of history seems short sighted as you bask in the glory of three and a half hours. Romeo has never shown that he can "string wins together". Or,even string "solid efforts" together. Nor that he can have this team "consistantly prepared to compete" week in and week out. Yesterday didn't show that either.
It showed us what we've seen all along. One week we look like we belong in the NFL,the next week we don't. Nothing "new" about that.
The best thing for us and the Browns is for Romeo to be successfull. But if you feel 23-11 is so much more impressive than 22-10 I think you're mistaken.
The Jekyll and Hyde syndrome must stop. We aren't "two teams" we're one team. It's about time they look like the team we saw Sunday every time they take the field. Not necassarily score 51 points, but come prepared to play every down. Not fall behind early then roll over and play dead like we usually do whenever we fall behind early.
BTW- Coach,we gave up 34 points and 41 points respectively. If you think this team will show any signs of life that way? I think you need to learn from history yet again. RAC's and DA's.

LOL, you asked for any reason to believe that RAC is a head coach. I gave them to you in the original thread. Yet you ignore them and say so what. Typical Peen.....right or wrong you will change your arguement to prove yourself right. At least you're here still looking as foolish as ever after such a great job of getting this team to play. You started your fire RAC after one game and then when they are good for one game, say one game doesn't matter. snif snif...I smell hypocrisy.

RAC is playing for his job. Sure we put up 51 points and won the game, but our defense has not improved on bit and our head coach is supposed to be a defensive genious, so how does a genious let a team score 45 points. I question his head coaching abilities, and feel he is a much better coordinator, but if he can go 8-8 or 7-9, I'll give him another year, but it will be another year of him being on the hot seat.

This whole situation really its weird to me.
It seems like everytime Romeo is hanging from a string, and another lapse in the team will have his head in the guillotine and he pulls out a win (Chiefs last year, yesterday). Its really weird. When theres optimism we come out and get shellacked by Pittsburgh (twice), Cincy last year (30-0).
but when he's on his last leg, that leg stands strong. I dunno what to think about him. We get wins to save his job, but not to make him a good coach. Is that on the players or the coaches?

LOL, you asked for any reason to believe that RAC is a head coach. I gave them to you in the original thread. Yet you ignore them and say so what. Typical Peen.....right or wrong you will change your arguement to prove yourself right. At least you're here still looking as foolish as ever after such a great job of getting this team to play.
Being a good DC has no bearing on wheather you'll make a good head coach. None.................

You started your fire RAC after one game and then when they are good for one game, say one game doesn't matter. snif snif...I smell hypocrisy.
I smell somebody getting giddy as a school girl over one game.
BTW- Coach,it was after 33 games, not one. You must use that "fuzzy math".
Like I said, and most EVERYONE on this board knows it,accept appearantly you..........................................
What people said they expected was...........................
"Steady progress and consistancy". Nothing hypocritical there. When we see it,we'll know it. One game does not constitute "steady progress" nor "consistancy".
Now if you can't wrap your mind around that Coach, that's on you. Consistancy is something that's repatitious. And steady progress lasts over the course of the season.,
Let's see how that goes for ya Coach.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Continuity counts. Especially when you commit to a defensive scheme by drafting players to fit and buying free agents to play. That being said yesterday, although good to get a win; Romeo did little to show much as head coaching material.
We have given up over 80 points in 2 games. That from an experienced unit into their year with RAC and Grantham. Not a new coordinator multiply times like on offense. "The Call of the Day", RAC on the sidelines talking to Braylon when the team is facing a 4th and a foot, on the fifty, ahead by 3points. At that point I don't believe Cinci had punted. RAC says "go for it". Are you kidding me? Even if you do make it (which we did not) you don't make that decision at that point in the game, from that position on the field, with a 3 point lead, when you have not yet stopped their offense. Did Braylon make a case and Romeo buy it? By luck we forced a punt. Could have very easily cost us the game.
I want this guy to succeed very badly. However, now in his third year; I have seen very little to convince me he is head coaching material. Decisions on players and coaches (Carthon), leadership, game preparation, game management. Results. I get what he came into from the wake of choas left behind from Butch. But I question all aspects of what he has done here since getting the job.
