That’s a fair point about the WR cushion, and I think that’s probably correct ... though I have to wonder how much was by design against Lamar, too. Just keep it in front of us and FORCE him to make 8-10 completions to score a TD per drive

Post Game thought: If the team that played yesterday shows up the rest of the way, the last seven games of the season look pretty darn winnable. If we can get through the next five games at 3-2, I think we can still hit 12 wins.

I still think Balt. is a good team. We just finally showed up yesterday and let everyone see the kind of team we can be. Let's hope we play like that the rest of the way. We still have good players waiting to come back from injury. We may still improve!!

I don't think bmore is that good either. They gave up their 3 best defensive players and are starting a qb that's getting exposed for what he is. I don't want to take anything away from our win, but things are looking really good for us in the AFC North!

Well, looking at it subjectively: We got the toughest AFCN game out of the way and Baltimore lost one at home to their only contender for the division. That’s a big hit for them and a big bonus for us.

It means we can probably lose one in the division and still be safe, whether that’s PIttsburgh on the road or Baltimore at home

Thoughts...

From week 1, we have continued to improve every week.. Still have a ways to go but it speaks well of the staff and our players willingness to learn and improve.

Baker, you could see he wanted to bail backwards a couple times but overcame the urge, stepped in and made good throws. He also was much more content to take the shallow cross and the dumpoff. that opened things up later.

Chubb is a beast. It's amazing how when you convert third downs and stay on the field and in rhythm, everything just seems to come together. Early in the 3rd, Chubb had 11 carries for 37 yards and 1 TD when Gumble said the Ravens were keeping him in check.. then he had 9 carries for 128 yards and 2 TDs...

Wilkes has been the unsung hero of the Browns to date. What he is doing with a depleted secondary is nothing short of stellar. Shout out to the D for 3 takeaways against a team that had 0 in the first 3 weeks (I wasn't aware of that).

Garrett wasn't mentioned much but the D line overall played fairly well. Had a couple sequences where they were getting gouged up the middle but overall a pretty effective day.

OBJ plays hard even when he's not getting the ball a lot. (Maybe that's why he was so frustrated?) The long pass to Seals-Jones was directly the result of both DBs closing on OBJ and letting SJ run free down the numbers.

Subtle shout out to Austin Seibert... missed his first PAT of the season but hasn't missed a PAT or a FG since. Most of his kicks have been money, right down the heart.

Our kickoff return is weak. Teams need to kick it to the goal line and not through the endzone against us. Did we run ANYTHING back past the 15?

We are still trying to overcome a lot of bad stats from week 1.. they bring them up all the time. We are averaging 10 penalties a game, league average is 7... we had 18 in week 1. They talk about it every time a flag is thrown but weeks 2-4, we have been right about average... let it go.

I was unaware that we had not scored a single 4th quarter point.. glad we got that monkey off our back..

All in all, the Browns bandwagon bus made another stop yesterday... the talking heads don't know whether to stay on, get back on, get off, or wait for the next one...

Good point about our KR team .... we legit need to down it whenever possible. We were lucky it didn’t hurt us THIS game (it did against Tennessee)

They definitely weren't as good as they looked coming off playing the likes of AZ and Miami. Lamar Jackson is legit, though. We were missing our top CBs, but he was still throwing better than I thought he would. He got himself out of a couple sticky situations with his legs as well. It's gotta be frustrating for a dlineman to beat the olineman in front of you and be well on your way to a sack and then whiff because you're playing a QB that can scoot.

There's a lot to like about Lamar Jackson. I think a big part of us getting to him is that they didn't go up early. I think a lot of their game depends on not having to play catch up. Lamar Jackson, as he is now, is not a guy that's going to be able to lead a comeback.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Am I the only one who thought Hubbard stunk. I spent half the game yelling at him to make a block. He singularly ended several drives.

I think our running game benefited more with the return of the 12 personnel packages we ran.(much more than Hubbard's return) And our passing game benefited as well. Chubb's 88 yrd run was broken open because of Tretter, Kush, and especially our 2 tight ends.

I think we were/are far more productive in the 12 package (1 RB, 2 TE, 2 WR) than the 10 (1 RB, 0 TE, 4 WR) and 11 (1 RB, 1 TE, 3 WR) packages that we ran almost exclusively in the first 3 games. It will be interesting to see if we go to some 20, 21, or 22 packages when Hunt returns.

Defense played very well and Jacksons threat to run stymied our pass rush more than their Oline did. And we still got 4 sacks.

Let teams focus on Garret. Let teams focus on OBJ. Let them focus on Chubb. Because whomever they focus on taking out of the game...we have someone else who will get the ball and really hurt you. That has never really been the case before.

Their Oline can really run block. The holes they were making were ridiculous. Getting a few stops and getting up in points completely changed Baltimore's approach. If they get up on an opponent, they can grind you out with the best of them. I wonder with most teams changing their Defenses to be far more pass oriented that an old school power running game is getting an advantage.

Ratley had a poor game...he'll get there. But getting Callaway and Higgins back will be a welcome sight.

The Secondary is hurting...but you really wouldn't have known it the past 2 games.

The Rams game was a step forward. This game was another step forward. It will be very exciting when we get everyone healthy and together...

OBJ is getting frustrated. He is trying to be patient. if he can keep that patience, this will be a very special thing. So far he is patient...but you can see his frustration building. I don't think it is a selfish thing...like he wants the ball all the time for his personal numbers. I think it is just a competitive thing and I want to prove people wrong kind of thing. It's more of an I want to be a leader on this team. He has to let it come naturally. I think he is pressing some.

They are still coming together...which I think is amazing considering they just scored 40 points on the Ravens in Baltimore. They are still just touching the tip of the iceberg.

I agree with you. Hopefully he understands that "leadership" isn't about having the most catches and the most yards.. it's about doing your job on every play and being happy as long as the play is successful, even if it didn't come to you.

Some of what I will post has been said and some may not have been.

Some of us have said that we needed to go back to what was working last year and then start to sprinkle in the new system gradually. We saw exactly that yesterday and it yielded the expected results. Giving this OL a little help in blocking works wonders.

While Baker did move backwards rather than step up in the pocket at times, he wasn't totally rolling out and abandoning the pocket. And for the most part he was stepping up into the pocket as we had hoped to see. This is what happens when you call plays that your QB is comfortable with.

It's amazing how much better your OL looks when your QB isn't holding the ball isn't it? You don't have to throw the ball 50 yards to get the opposing D to loosen up from the LOS. Short to intermediate throws work just as well to keep LB'ers respecting the pass.

We did blitz more once the game was in hand in the 4th quarter. But it looked to me like, for the most part, we were more concerned with containing Lamar than applying full pressure. He's a great athlete so he's going to do some damage. But containing that damage is key and for the most part we did that quite well.

I can't say enough about the credit that is due this patchwork secondary. They deserve our praise.

And special teams. The coverage has been great and both our kicker and punter have stepped up to the plate well. Kudos to all of them.

Once again, Baker is a very talented kid. But Rome wasn't built in a day. To totally change an entire system at one time is a lot for a kid to digest in one meal. I have to give Freddie credit for seeing this. That he was willing to take a step back and go back to the things that were working last year. It made all the difference in the world in Baker's and the teams confidence. It was palatable.

One more post game thought that I forgot....

Every time the Ravens seemed to be gaining some momentum or would get a score while the game was still up for grabs.. we had an answer. And often quickly. I remember so many times when we were fortunate enough to have a lead and as soon as the other team would make a play or get a score, we would go into a shell and fold.. not yesterday. We answered every one of their scores with a quick score of our own, never letting the crowd get fully back into it. That's what good teams do, they don't stop every play, but they have an answer.. that part was awesome to watch.

Ever since I can remember, it's been a shovel pass.

One other point. I don't think OBJ is pressing. I think he is being a good teammate. He drew a lot of coverage yesterday and that opened things up for other players.

If you have the time, watch OBJ on Landry's long run [guess it was a pass] on the option play. OBJ was trailing Landry and the latter could have pitched it to him. A defender took that away and Landry kept the ball. OBJ sold out and ran as fast as he could to get downfield and get a bit of a block on a defender down by the goal line.

That's effort. That's being a good teammate and is the opposite of selfish.

OBJ had a great game against the Jets, and Landry was more than happy for him, and the team, since we won.

Landry had a great game against the Ravens, and I bet that OBJ was more than happy for him, and the team, since we won.

Each guy had over 300 yards at the 1/4 mark of the season. I am sure that they are looking forward to more scoring opportunities, but both guys are on pace for over 1200 yards.

I felt yesterday was almost the inverse of the Titans game. When they scored, we had an answer. When they pulled to within one score late in the 3rd, we busted off a huge run and scored to make it a two score game, and then pulled away from there.

The defense did the job. People give Wilks a ton of credit, and deservedly so, but I'm wondering if Mitchell and Carrie are just better corners for a zone scheme than Ward and Williams? For a corner, it's possible to be great at man coverage and bad at zone, and vice-versa. Greedy and Ward might of shut down some of those crossing pattern if they were playing man-to-man, but Carrie and Mitchell seem content to just sit back in a zone and keep things in-front of them. And it works.

Schobert had quite a day. I had no idea he had 17 tackles until someone mentioned it. Talk about quiet efficiency! Whitehead seemed to get his name mentioned quite a few times too. I remember when he made that interception, I said "He's having a pretty good game!" Then a few plays later he caused that bad pass that Lawrence intercepted.

As for the Offense, this is more of what we expected! Start the offense through Chubb, and don't expect Baker to throw it 35+ times in a shotgun formation. I was glad to see much more 12 personnel, snaps under center, and usage of the Tight End. Seals-Jones really stepped up in a big way. I think someone mentioned earlier that maybe Baker was trying to force the issue, and was attempting too hard to get OBJ his catches. This offense looked much more like last year's where everyone was getting into the action.

And this offense DID look much closer to what we saw last year. Right down to the innovative Jet-sweep to an option play that we saw go for huge yards a lot last year. To the double-reverse flea-flicker that nearly lost a huge chunk of yards and/or could have been picked. I wish he would stay away from those super-overly aggressive trick plays, that never seem to work, but if it comes down to one of those a game, versus 11 personnel deep-routes all game long, I'll take the former.

Gameball to Chubb though. What a workhorse! One play he's breaking through 4 arm-tackles on his way to a touchdown. The next he's blazing through everyone untouched for a 89-yard TD. Props to the O-line too for giving him something to work with. Let's keep improving every week.

I think Purp mentioned something similar, and I was thinking the same thing yesterday. If we can manage to win two or more games out of the next 5, this team has a chance to run the table in the last 7 before the Playoffs. I think we can hang with any of those teams. We just need to squeak out a couple of wins and keep the confidence level up. 11-wins is a real possibility if the team we saw this week continues to show up.

I noticed that also. I think OBJ was frustrated and it showed in the double penalty when he ended up being choked. At least I think the guy that choked him was the other personal foul called after the play.

His frustration however seemed to be with the way he was manhandled all day and nothing was ever called. I don't think it had anything to do with his production regarding catches or yards. I can't obviously be in his head and know for sure but that was my interpretation.

Regarding the blocking, I love skill position guys who block. That is why I loved watching the Buckeyes WRs the past 6-8 years. Those guys block like their lives depended ion it. Plus Zeke Elliott was an awesome blocking college back, especially considering he was stud runner.

I know you were "winky" but I actually had the opposite thought.. I was imagining this offense when Chubb comes off the field being replaced by Kareem Hunt and thinking...... Holy crap.

Just think we have not been healthy or had our full roster in tack yet this year how good will this team be when we are completely healthy???

I want to see Chubb AND Hunt back there together where they each lead block for each other, or one stays in to chip and the other leaks out, etc...

I want to see defenses cry because while they're trying to figure out what to do with those two, OBJ & Landry are running free and there is a TE completely uncovered in the seam.

A RB screen where one goes to the right flat, one goes to the left flat... and Baker can outlet to whichever one isn't being sat on, and if both are sat on, then a TE or WR is WIDE open.

Great game. I haven’t enjoyed watching a game that much in years. The Browns Bar was rocking. Just like old times. Loved it.

There was a Steelers fan sitting next to me at the bar, whimpering the whole game, eating his humble pie. It was fantastic lol

It almost pains me to hear Skip talking sense about Baker and the Freddie. He's normally a shock jock and sensationalist ... but he (and Shannon) made good points. Shannon's initial take - it wasn't the 40 points, it was the way in which Cleveland dominated - was a good one.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

Love Jimmy D calling those plays

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
