The victim told police that Frankie and Bobbie Brewster kept her captive and threatened to kill her. Bobby Brewster, Frankie Brewster, Danny Combs, George Messer, Karen Sue and Alisha Burton were arrested on various charges in the incident. Frankie Lee Brewster, 49, and Bobby Brewster, 24, face kidnapping, malicious wounding and sexual assault charges. Danny Combs, 27, of Chapmanville, was charged with malicious wounding and sexual assault. George Messer, 27, of Chapmanville, was charged with assault during commission of a felony and battery charges. Alisha Burton, 23, of Chapmanville was charged with assault during the commission of a felony and battery. Karen Burton, 46, of Chapmanville was charged with malicious wounding and assault during the commission of a felony and battery charges. Karen Burton allegedly used a racial slur when she reportedly told the victim, "that's what we do to n-----s around here." The statement may form a base for hate crime charges.
This weekend's incident was not the first time local law enforcement officers have been called to the Brewster residence on a serious call, nor is it the first time Frankie or Bobby Brewster have been involved in a serious crime, Hunter noted. Frankie Lee Brewster was arrested once and charged with murder.
"She was arrested back in the 90s and it was plead down to voluntary or involuntary manslaughter in the early 90s," Hunter recalled. "It happened down around the Big Creek area."
Bobby Brewster was involved in two serious incidents earlier this year and during one of them he told Deputy Jason Mathis he had shot his own father in 1998.
On March 6, 2007, the Logan County Sheriff's Department was called to the Brewster residence when a distraught Bobby Ray Brewster reportedly attacked his mother Frankie Brewster with a machete. At that time, he was arrested on charges of brandishing a deadly weapon, domestic assault and obstructing by deputies Jason Mathis, B. Ferrell and B. L. Cobb of the Logan County Sheriff's Department.
The deputies continued to order Brewster to come out of the building during a 15 minute stand off before he finally came out.
"He was flailing that machete around when we arrived," Deputy Jason Mathis told The Logan Banner on March 7, adding that Brewster was ordered to surrender and he eventually placed the machete on the ground and fled into an outbuilding for several minutes refusing to come out. Mathis said he and other deputies were concerned at that point that Brewster might come out with another weapon such as a firearm or compound bow and possibly attack them.
In the criminal complaint filed on the incident Frankie Brewster said that Bobby Brewster had attempted to hit her with the machete and she escaped without injury and locked the doors.
Bobby Brewster was reportedly involved in an incident earlier this year when a young man was stabbed.
