My wife and I saw this yesterday on its opening night. For those who don't know, this is the latest film by Quentin Tarentino (his 9th) and stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt. It has many cameos by several big names as well. Set in 1969 in Hollywood, DiCaprio plays a bit of washed up villain of the old Western genre and Pitt is his stuntman. It then surrounds itself in the times with Sharon Tate, Manson family etc.

I'm not going to give any spoilers, but I will say at nearly 3 hours this is a brilliant character study. And, DiCaprio is excellent! He was brilliant in 'Revenant' and he really shines in this.

Go See it, Dawgs.

One thing I will add, it was obviously made by a Gen X'er and there are so many references that unless you are a Boomer or Gen X'er (or well versed on 60s pop culture) they may not be picked up by Millennials or younger.

Two hours and 45 minutes, Tarantino doesn't leave much on the cutting room floor when he makes a movie.

Actually, yes he does. According to IMDB he cut it down from 4.5 hours!

Well that settles it. We'll be going to eat lunch before the matinee showing Sunday.

I”m looking forward to it ... thanks for the run down

I had no idea about this movie until I saw the preview pop up before we saw Spiderman the other night (btw, Spiderman: Far From Home was AWESOME).

It looks really really good though. I am not into every movie Tarantino has done, but the ones I like, I really really like. I can't wait to see this and I am happy to see some positive reviews as well.

I've been meaning to come back to this thread since we saw the movie over a week ago.

I would consider this movie a must see for anyone that has a grasp on the time period of 1969. I think it captures that time period perfectly.

The characters are well defined and the story line was well thought out.

It's the best movie I've seen this year and someone would have to go a long way to top it.

The more I think about this film the more I like it. The juxtaposition between Leo and Sharon Tate is excellent. The longest scene is him painstakingly trying to nail his scene (w/the little girl) and battling his ego and downfall as an actor. Meanwhile Sharon Tate is at the beginning of her career and she goes to see her scene in a dumb Dean Martin film and revels in the audience's reaction to her pretty girl/slap stick tiny role. I LOVED that scene and glad he didn't trim it as it said so much about the 2 characters.

Brad is good, but Leo was truly great. I think it is an Oscar nomination worthy performance for him.

I do wonder how many folks who are not clued up on that time period, pop culture or the actual history of the Manson family will understand the "what if" fictionalized ending.

I have no idea but let's just say that the ending was something I certainly didn't see coming.

I liked the scene with Leo in his trailer. It was the perfect scene to encapsulate the struggle he was going through as an actor.

When I first heard that Leo was going to play the starring role as an actor and Brad was playing his stunt double, on the surface it sounded to me like the roles should be reversed. After seeing the movie their roles made perfect sense.
