I have been off-line at home and too busy at work to post for the past week or two, but I wanted to share this.

I was off-line at home because the internet was getting upgraded. I'm still beyond pissed at AT&T customer service, they have always sucked, but they did alright this time. It took them 3 tries to get it right, but now that it is done, it's awesome.

Extremely fast internet and they also offer a lot of HD channels for the TV.

U-Verse sounds interesting and I may likely switch when it comes to my area. PCWorld reviewed AT&T and Verizon's fiber optic TV and they slightly favored Verizon. U-Verse should likely be a good fit for me since I already have their phone and DSL service.

LMAO. That's about their average, I think. When I upgraded to their "Pro" DSL tier, it took about three weeks because they had to connect me to their remote terminal. That was understandable, but the path it took via customer service to get to the RT switch was a pain. It turned out that I was just 1000' short of their 20,000' limit when I was connected to the main hub and the best download I could get was around 250kbs. That realization took about 3 phone calls on my part and could have been identified if they had done a line test when I first called to order the Pro package. Once a good connection has been acheived, their DSL is affordable, dependable and delivers as promised. I often thought that those without even some basic know how could be very frustrated with AT&T.

I've had their DSL since it became available in Springfield. After 5 years or so the modem went out. I determined this by process of elimination. I suspected as much, but wanted to make sure before I called them for service. That process took three visits from three different technicians based on how they bill for on-site service. I was originally told that a new modem was $80, but when the third gentleman arrived, he told me that I would not be billed based on my long term commitment to their DSL. He didn't have to do that, but needless to say it was greatly appreciated and proper.

Obviously I fully agree with you about the customer service and the fact that when they finally get it right, it's great. Like I said though, those without some basic technical know how could come away absolutely livid.

I would have taken Verizon over AT&T in a heartbeat if was available in my area.

Verizon owns AT&T.
