Thanks for posting that, I enjoyed watching them.

On a side note, who was the color guy (2nd announcer) in Rosen's game? Dude sounded like a WWE, or WWF wrestler.

With the caveat that these are meaningless pre-season games, with lots of second stringers and scrubs on the field, using vanilla offenses and defenses, and that the speed and intensity really cranks up in the regular season, here are my thoughts...

Baker Mayfield looked good for the most part. Good poise, moved in the pocket well, looked downfield, mostly accurate, smart runner, but has some unusual footwork. Many folks on this board have already noted Baker's QB qualities and I largely concur with those. My only contribution in this area was to point out his boxer's footwork.

Sam Darnold looked about as solid to me as Mayfield. More of a traditional pocket passer with conventional footwork, pretty accurate, not as sharp as Mayfield in sensing pressure, and not quite as smart a runner. (A Jets tradition with Josh McCown on the roster too?)

Josh Allen comes as advertised with a big arm but in need of refinement. I was impressed with his long distance accuracy and wonder why his college completion ratio was so low. Long range Air Raid all the time? Allen didn't have the poise and smooth pocket movement of Baker or even Darnold. Didn't sense pressure as quickly and unload the ball. He can get better with practice but has a ceiling below Darnold and Mayfield I think.

Josh Rosen is hard to evaluate. His center was awful in the shotgun - ball was snapped low way too often. And his offensive line was porous. That said, the red light on Rosen was his questionable ability to sense and evade pressure, of which there was plenty. Given his injury history in college, if he takes too many hits in the NFL he might have more problems with injury. Accuracy is OK to good, but not great. He warrants further study as this game wasn't an entirely fair test of his abilities.

Lamar Jackson is a classic college running quarterback. I like his moxie and toughness but I don't know how long he'll last in the NFL given his size, weight, and refusal to slide or head out of bounds when he runs. Footwork was good but accuracy was inconsistent. I'm not sure about poise, sensing pressure, or moving in the pocket. If he has a year or two to understudy Flacco and to develop a stronger NFL skillset, he might be OK.

Ron Wolfly. He used to play in the NFL. I think he was a FB for the St. Louis Cardinals back in the day. I love listening to him. LOL

Thanks for the name. Played for the packers maybe? (I remember the name) I didn't care listening to him - and all I listed to was the Rosen link provided.

He might be a great guy, I have no idea. I just didn't care for his voice.

Lamar could be even more dynamic than Vick. he's already breaking ankles, has shown flashes of good ball placement, and has a strong arm.

Baker and Lamar going head 2 head for the foreseeable future is gonna be must see TV.

There was a guy who was from the WWF that announced games for awhile. Jesse Ventura was a commentator for the Tampa Bay Bucs, I believe. He later was governor in Minnesota. He had similar style to Wolfly.

Troubling start for Rosen, that O-line is a problem. Accuracy looks good, but limited mobility and a bad O-line is a recipe for disaster. Throwing into traffic a lot and threw what should have been a pick 6. A delay of game?
Allen is going to really struggle early on, he’s athletic and has arm talent but he is a one read QB. They did a nice job protecting him with screens and easy check downs, but starting NFL defenses will game plan specifically to make him tuck that check down.
Jackson is RG3/Vince Young he can win some games but they need to try to coach out the want to run because when the pressure gets dialed up against real defenses he is going to want to run.
Baker, I’ve touched on already. Legit getting through his progressions, protected the ball, accuracy inside and outside the pocket encouraging. Great ability to move in the pocket, height doesn’t seem to be an issue at all. Based on one game, in preseason he does look like the most polished.
Darnold – looked really good, good arm, good mobility, and accuracy looks good. He’s not getting through progressions quickly, he is ready to run after his first read and checkdown. He is wanting to run a little more than I’d like, I think he and Baker are fighting the urge to run.

Based on one preseason game against backups.

Of the other QBs actually Josh Allen impressed me...very athletic.

The worst was Lamar Jackson I thought.

Rosen looked very polished but as the game wore on he seemed to have gotten worst.

Darnold was Ok a lot of dink n dunk hard to tell.

I'm happy with what we got. I always said this is one of the best QB classes to come out in some time. It won't surprise me if more than one has a great career.

Rosen did some good things and seemed to keep his eyes downfield, he threw some nice balls. He was playing with a #2 O-Line that looked to be best suited for a high school game... and a center that must be related to Chuck Knoblauch. Not sure I would throw my top pick out there with an O-Line that can't block to save someone's life.

When we traded for Taylor I was on the " Draft Allen " bandwagon .. Still think he has the biggest arm of the group .. Thought he had the highest ladder to climb when it came making it in the NFL .. This is going to be an interesting QB draft class to watch ! PS: Never sold on Lamar or Rosen ..

Based on a limited Sample, in the preseason I believe they were picked in the correct order. We'll see.

And yet we did with Mayfield wink I'm sure all the kids were with a lot of OL that will not start or be on the roster. After the first series btw Rosen did not look good at all. I think most definitely him being hit effected him.I think that will become an issue with him thoughout his career as the NFL are like Sharks with blood in the water.

I maybe mistaken, but I believe he has the weakest arm of the QBs drafted this year....

Ball velocity at the Combine has almost been universally been called unreliable. We had this discussion last year when Watson was coming out.

But, you and device can stick to it and make definitive statements about arm strength. Just don't expect anyone who knows a thing about football to agree w/you.

In Rosen's defense, he did have to field about 8 grounders from the center which takes your eyes off the defense just when they start moving. It's hard to read what the defense is up to when you're looking at the ground trying to field the ball.
