Remember last year how great our preseason went and then what happened after the season started? Just a quick post to lower expectations back to reality. I love me some Browns, but for 20 years they have let us down down down.

I think you should change the title to "Do not get exciting about the OUTCOME of preseason."

A lot of things will indicate success and failure during the preseason. Winning 4 games with the 3rd and 4th string in 2017 was not one of those things.

I remember our offense (the 1s) being not very good.. our defense (the 1s) being adequate.. and our 2s and 3s winning games in the 2nd half...

I will admit I didn't think 0-16 was going to happen.. but I wasn't really excited coming out of preseason last year. We could easily go 0-4 this year and I could end up feeling a lot better, depending on how we look... and I'm especially talking about the 1s.

4 - 0 ... 0 - 4 ... never matters to me ....

This year is no different ... only thing that could temper my optimism for this year is INJURIES ... 0 - 4 wouldn’t bother me in the least ... well unless the 1st team O can’t move the ball .. tht’d suck ...

Other than that ...

9/9 .... LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ...

Ya’all can be as cautious as u want ... for the first time u have a reason to be optomistic and you’ve burned yourselves so many times now your afraid to see it for what it is ....

Man this is wierd ... definetly new shoes for me ... *L* ...

It's fine to get excited about preseason, as long as you remember certain things:

Opposing offenses and defenses are incredibly bland, as are ours.

Our 2nd teamers are often playing against the opposing team's 2nd string. Be careful before inflating your opinion beyond reality.

It is of no value whatsoever when our 3rd and/or 4th string players win games for us, because they won't be here.

There will always be players who the fans and internet will blow up over, who will be out of football by week 1 of the season.

Just a few things to think about.

After last year's abysmal season, I will fully enjoy the preseason, but will not think their success or failure will correlate to how they do during the season.

We certainly won’t be served the Baskin Robbins of defenses. No neapolitan here, just vanilla.

Well put. Looking forward to that.

By the same token, it didn't;t take rocket science to beat us last year. It is our first chance to get that 16-0 taste out of our mouth.

Hope to see Mayfield light up the scoreboard a bit. Do not Kizer!

Nah it's ok to get excited by preseason, some of these guys will show they can play, some will show they cannot. I think the important distinction is to not get worked up about the stats the QB's may put up. Brandon Weeden lit up a preseason stats wise and just analyzing the throws you could see they were inaccurate and the preseason defenses allowed them to be completions.

So if you see really nice accuracy out of Mayfeild you can expect it to continue as a good sign. If you see 15/20 for 250 yards and 2 td's, it doesn't mean anything.

I'm also excited to see the HBO HARD KNOCKS program tonight at 10pm EST.

I hope we get a real inside look

In General, I'm excited.

I'm super-duper-mega-ultra excited.

1a. Football is back!
1b. I'm now in Ohio, and it will be much easier to watch games on TV as well as even catch a few games in-person. I really can't express how great it will be to not be on the opposite side of the country from my football team during the season.

i think with the arrival of Haley theres excitment on what his offense will look like.
the tempo execution etc.
but Jake Delhomme and Brian Robiskie is a perfect example of why you dont get excited about the preseason.

The two teams to have gone 0-16 in an NFL season (2008 Lions and.. you know) both went 4-0 in the preseason.

I do think you can glean some info by how certain players do (especially starters), how well the team is coached, etc. but preseason wins and losses tell you very little.

Even week 1 of the regular season can have a lot of volatility, especially given that the current CBA put so many restrictions on off-season practices.

I maybe mistaken, but one of the years the stoolers won the SB they went 0-4 in preseason.

The only result I ever put any stock in is what the state of the game looked like with our 1's vs their 1's.

Everything after that is about nothing more than shaping the roster. 1's vs 1's is the only real preparatory part of the games.

OldCold,
What folks should watch is the individual battles and group battles. To me, preseason tells me if the oline can run or pass block. If we are having problems running in preseason, we will have problems in the regular season. Can certain positions beat their opposite team position. Pre season can/will show who can block and who cannot!! If your D line can maul people or not. That's what I look for.

Y'all .............let's face it.

Whether you love him, dislike him, or are neutral.........I think everyone is excited to watch Baker Mayfield.

If he sucks, some will say he is a bust. Others will say it was because he played w/the twos and you need 3 years to evaluate a qb.

If plays well, you will hear nothing from one side and the other side will proclaim "We have our franchise qb."

LOL..............I love this stuff.

Vers,
You know just like I know that Baker will be playing with the 3rd string. And if the Browns are smart, you let Baker play with them to see how he does and what he does. I HOPE that the Browns have learned to "slow-cook" their draft pic instead of putting him on the grill under the direct heat!!..LOL...

I hope for once, we let a young QB learn/develop...So when/if he gets put into a game, he is ready.

Why would he play with the third string. He practices with the 2nd string. I think we'll see plenty of Baker

I suspect Baker will play 2/3 of the first half and a drive or two into the second half

Why would he play with the third string. He practices with the 2nd string. I think we'll see plenty of Baker

Good onya!

l learned along time sgo(Paul Brown days) to ignore pre-season
wins & losses. The Browns lost most ALL P/S games. My excitement
grew with each loss and I was full on by the first game of the season.
