As a kid growing up in a fairly remote small town, the nearest Toys R' Us was over 2 hours away.. so it was a rare and unusual treat when we got to visit one when I was young..

I never went to one as a kid. Not even sure where one was back then. I’m sure Toledo had one but that was 40 minutes away.
As an adult I went into one to buy a toy gun for a costume. Maybe 10 or so years back. It seemed chaotic and disorganized. It’s about a mile or so from my house. The parking lot always seemed empty. Even at the holidays.
It’s closed now obviously. My hope is something good moves into that retail space.

It's too small to be an Amazon warehouse.

Yeah, Toledo had one, at least. I think 2.

1 was just north of Maumee - I want to say on Reynolds Road, south of Southwyck mall.

The other was over by Franklin Park.

Anyone who was a kid in the 80's or 90's will tell you how amazing it was to walk into Toys R Us. You just didn't want to leave.

I remember going and getting Nintendo games from there. You had to pull a ticket out of the pouch of the game you wanted and bring it to the register.

The board game aisle seemed HUGE.

I also remember the bike section being the last part of the store?

I'm of the age where Toys "R' Us was absolutely huge when my children were young.

The parking lot would be packed more often than not and during the Christmas season...........I yi yi yi.

But, you know....my wife and I went there because they had the goods the kids wanted.

I am saddened by this news. Just as I was when I heard companies like Pontiac and Oldsmobile were shelved. Just as I am when I hear how stores such as Sears and JC Penney are about to meet the same fate.

It's not about loyalty or affiliation in my case. It's about losing giants of my youth and in this particular case, my younger adult life.

Time passes............and eventually, it passes us all by.

My daughter literally JUST got a birthday card / coupon for her birthday (90 days early). She then broke down into tears because she can't use it.

This place was like...Disney World when I was kid, honestly hadn't been there too much as an adult, the convenience of online shopping took over.

I actually can't recall ever going to Toys R Us. I bought some stuff online from them, but that's it.

I think the last time I was at Toys 'R Us was to buy one of those giant bubble making toys. About 20 years ago.

For the kids you know.

Although...

I might have stopped in more recently (like ~ 17 years ago) at Halloween time to see if there was anything I could use for my annual Halloween costume.

One year I got a long streaked wig and a plastic trident for a Neptune costume.

Otherwise I only wore a white towel around my waist (don't freak - with white gym shorts underneath)

Costume had to be water based.

I thought I had the best costume award "wrapped-up" (get it?)

Until 7 people showed up coordinated as the crew of Gilligan's island.

And danced into the party singing the opening Gilligan's Island theme song.

(party was mostly outside at a guy's house with a large heated in-ground pool)

Is it Halloween yet?
