An office discusion happened this morning and the topic was Antonio Gates. I was of the impression that his numbers would drop off this year due to Norv Turner ( offensive guru) and the fact that the #1 WR is out for 10 weeks. That indicated to my coworker that his numbers would go up but I want some other opinions. My argument was that if no other wr stepped up then it would be easier to plan for a Gates dominated air attack . Am I wrong and if so please give some reasons.

It could go either way... It all depends on how good their run game is.

I think you can make an arguement either way...
Gates may get more balls thrown his way with them losing a WR... but the defenses could also concentrate on him more and thus dropping his productivity.
Also depends on what their offense is going to be centered around this year.

Gates will lead the Chargers in receiving TD's. He is by far their #1 target in the red zone. I don't expect his numbers to drop this year if he stays healthy.

I'd guess their offense will be focused around Tomlinson, which is why teams won't be planning for Gates as much as LT. Honestly, I'm not sure that Jackson isn't the best receiver on that team anyhow. I think Gates numbers will stay right around what they were, but if they move, tick up slightly.

I gotta believe that Vincent Jackson is going to have as close to a breakout year that any non air-Coryell San Diego Chargers team can have. Gates production won't go down either.
And the next head coach is ......

I may be wrong, but this should probably be discussed in the Fantasy & Gaming forum.

I just read that Norv Turner plans on getting LT more involved in the passing game this year.
He said that if you have a rb as talented as Tomlinson at catching the football you have to get him more involved. I really don't see how they could get him more involved. He was already a target in the passing game.

I don't think it was a big secret that Winslow was our offense last year. He managed to tie a team record for receptions. I think when a player is good enough he will get his.
P.S. He also did it with one knee.

I don't see Gates production going down. Teams have targeted him as the primary recieving target for 3 years now, and he has continued to produce.
Good players make plays regardless of the coaching and team philosphy.
The Chargers were still running the offense that Turner installed in 02' when he was the OC. I can't see it changing that much.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!
