Nate Solder leaves New England for the Giants

Posted by Mike Florio on March 14, 2018, 10:51 AM EDT

The New York Giants have beaten the Patriots. Again.

Left tackle Nate Solder, who has spent seven years with the Patriots, intends to sign with the Giants, per multiple reports.

He becomes the fourth Patriots veteran to exit via free agency, joining cornerback Malcolm Butler, running back Dion Lewis, and receiver Danny Amendola. He also becomes the first major free-agent acquisition for new Giants G.M. Dave Gettleman, who missed out on guard Andrew Norwell.

The Texans and Browns also were believed to be talking to Solder, who will spend his eighth year and beyond with the Giants.

The Patriots will now have to look within the roster and beyond to replace Solder. Coupled with the other departures, Bill Belichick and company have plenty of work to do. If it were any other team, the fan base would be panicking.

Texans set to sign Zach Fulton

Posted by Josh Alper on March 14, 2018, 11:06 AM EDT

The Texans were trying to sign Nate Solder to solidify their offensive line, but Solder will be going to the Giants once free agency opens on Wednesday.

They’ll make do by adding former Chiefs interior lineman Zach Fulton. The Texans were named as the favorites to land Fulton earlier this week and multiple reports on Wednesday say they’ve landed him in a deal averaging $7.5 million a year.

Fulton saw time at both center and guard while making 46 starts for the Chiefs last season. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle expects Fulton to play guard in Houston with Nick Martin continuing to be their center.

The Texans are also expected to sign former Bills tackle Seantrel Henderson as part of their effort to remake an offensive line that underwhelmed last season.

so, if JT leaves we either have to trade back and draft a LT

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

That's the truth. They don't even worry about the draft or anything. In Bill they trust

Now we have no choice in my opinion but to draft a it. Even if Joe comes back this will probably be his last season

Well, it was going to be his last no matter what I think. It was the last year of his contract.

Unfortunately, this year, there's not many great LT prospects

Maybe we were gong hard after Nate. He just might have told us "No thanks". That or we had a limit, and that was that.

I mean, we don't know how long he'll be in this league or how much of his head will be into it either.

His son's got cancer. That's a lot to handle

Donte Moncrief, coming off of 2 really unimpressive, injury riddled seasons, signs a deal worth up to $10 million ....... but they didn't want pay Allen Robinson $14 million/year. crazy

Wow. He's had some injuries, but he is a really good player. If we don't get him, I hope he stays out of the AFC North.

Pittsburg will be all over him. Arizona and Pitt are always signing each others players.

Pittsburgh would have to find a lot of cap space to compete what the Jets can afford to offer him.

Pittsburgh doesn't have the money to get Matthau without cutting a big part of their team ...

So they are giving up on the kid from Florida who started last year with Adams as rookies?

One other thing, the Cards gave Bradford $20 million, mostly guaranteed .... but couldn't afford Mathieu. Crazy.

I'd like Honey Badger here, but I doubt he would choose us if money is close

I know the Colts haven't spent a lick in FA...I know they drafted Hooker and TJ Green high for safety...wonder if they make a push for honey badger?

Maclin was cut by the Ravens, who have no good receivers. He was also cut by John Dorsey last season and I don't think their relationship is the best. . .

Yeah, Maclin is to the point where he might be done

I know the Ravens core is weak, they did give some big bucks to Brown to Grant...esentially swapped maclin for John Brown (he's much younger)

Yeah I know the chiefs wanted to keep him, and I know they needed to shed his salary. Things I love about maclim...veteran with good hands, sharp route runner, and non cancerous to a locker roon...

His big concern is getting knocked out of games...I lost count how much just last year he was taken the sidelines from injury or hits...in just two games against us, he was pulled 3 times...

I just think for a one year $3 mill deal he's well worth it...Did Dorsey originally sign him? I know you informed me that he cut him but wonder if he signed him as well.

Very true...Ryan Grant got a big contract, John Brown signed a one year 5 mill deal (which essentially they swapped out Maclins 1 year 5 mill for John Brown) I can see that as Brown is a lot younger
