Alright first let me start off positive...

Charlie Frye looked the best, he seemed to know the plays alot more than the receivers/tight ends but he and Anderson were alternating first string reps.

Braylon Edwards looked very good, he caught everything and put a hell of a move on Bodden (who still managed to almost swat the pass) but Braylon caught it.

Jamal Lewis looks amazing... I hope this transitions into the season.

Players get chewed out when they make a mistake, good to see discipline.

Whoever #5 is (Hill?) he is my dark horse receiver to make the team, looked pretty good, he only dropped one and that was a pass behind him.

Tim Carter got quite a bit of passes thrown his way and I didn't see him drop one.

Joe Thomas didn't get beat from what I saw.

Dawson was drilling field goals at the end of practice and the team wanted him to start kicking some insanely long ones.

My boy Vickers signed for me after practice

Negatives

First off, Travis Wilson is a waste of a roster spot if today is any indication of things to come... He dropped everything thrown his way, and when he did beat someone it went right through his hands...

QB play was average, no one was amazing but Frye was the best IMO...

Heiden had to completely hold Wimbley on a play because Wimbley was going to storm right by him.

Winslow was having a difficult time blocking (when it came to the sleds he had to redo it a couple times because the coach was fixing something.)

First string offense got put aside because they couldn't get a play off, they were shaky at the begining but it looked like they got it down later on.

I think the #81 jersey is jinxed, giving it's wearer a set of bad hands.

I've been told J. Lewis is in top shape and is a beast.
I can't wait to see him run it this year!

Danielle - LOVE the pic in your sig... that's an awesome shot Hopfully a future Brownie there

And I agree... from everything I've read Jamal sounds like he's in fantastic shape! I hope the surgery and the losing 10-15lbs has really helped he and he plays really well this year

He stole J.Wrights helmet a few minutes before Hank walked over and put it on and was running around like a nut. He had everyone on the sidelines cracking up!

He put on Hanks helmet and tried to get into his stance and he couldn't get his head off the ground. Those pics are cute too! I wish I could add more than one!

LMAO - that's hilarious... that's the reason I work with kids....

I bought my niece (about 2 1/2) a soccer jersey and we took a bunch of pics of her running around doing her "goal" dance

I'm sure it's good for the guys with families to have their kids and wives there supporting them. Man I can't wait to see them on the field.

The Positives sound good and I'd say even the negatives don't sound that bad.

Wilson could just be having a bad day and if that's not it, they'll figure something out. Maybe Cribbs or Carter gets the spot. Charlie will get it figured out and he's going to be fun to watch this season with some protection, a running back and a scheme in place. Heiden needing to hold Wimbley is a positive as far as I'm concerned. Winslow will get it together and so will the O. Overall, sounds like good news. Thanks for the update, WB.

Thanks for the info. A few things bothered me..........

1. This is the 2nd article/report I've heard about Wilson having bad hands. I've
been hoping he's part of the future, but this isn't a good sign. The last thing
we need is another WR who can't catch.........that's all we've had since 99.
I hope this is an anomoly, but still isn't a good start for Travis.

2. Fry and Anderson suck period and the sooner we see what we have in Quinn the better. I don't want him starting this year to begin with, but as soon as the incumbant shows their true colors I hope we go to Quinn and let the learning process begin instead of pulling out useless # 2. In fact I hope that we cut whoever loses the battle and keep Dorsey. That way we have a smart vet who can teach Quinn, and when loser 1 chokes we can let Quinn's developmental process begins this year.

3. I love that the coaches are holding guys accountable.........about time. You can treat a player like a man and with respect and still let him know that half ass play isn't allowed.

4. Wimbley is going to a beast, and possibly a HOFer.

And that is EXACTLY what I LOVE to hear.

If we're gonna do anything besides be a basement team, it's gonna be on his legs and the blocking up front.

When I hear that, the more optimistic I get about the season regardless of who the QB is.

looking at the pics... Cribbs doesn't look like his arms are nearly as big as they did last year... I think the kid was chisled to the point where it was probably hurting him. (Good to see Lott gone) Football players need to be big but they need to be flexible in the pile and be able to take the hits. If you look at a lot of the players last year... I think he was making the players lift wayyy too much. Hopefully, they start doing yoga this year instead of lifting as much.

Will you be booing our opening day useless loser as he enters the stadium September 9, or will you wait until the end of the first offensive series?

Uh, it's only the third day of camp. I wouldn't write him off just yet. Maybe he's just a slow starter.

He knows the stakes. He knows what's required of him. Give him a couple weeks to show what he's got. I'm hoping he's got what it takes.

I don't boo a guy for going in and trying his best..........even if it's never going to be good enough. Both guys are career backups, and as soon as we move past the point of them on the field and our future QB begining development the better off we will be. It isn't CF's or DA's fault that they are backups, but that doesn't mean that we can't wait for the day when hopefully a real NFL starting caliber QB is on the field.

Keep one, and cut the other..........that way Quinn can play clean up the 2nd half and begin the learning process........no point in keeping 2 guys who aren't part of the long term plans (at least as a starter anyway.....and we will only keep 1 as a backup).

1. His foot is hurt
2. So he is wearing a boot.

well...that is "a little more".

Honestly though, I don't remember anything specific being said about exactly what is wrong with him or his prognosis. If he's in a boot it can be assumed that he'll be limping around even after he's out of it. So the chance that he'll be doing anything subatantial in the next few weeks are likely pretty slim.

We can probably assume that nothing is broken or he'd be in a cast instead of a boot.

I did read somewhere that it was the writer's opinion that Minter seems to have a "red cross" on his back due his oft injured situations.

Weekend Recap
Observations through the first weekend of training camp:

-Neither quarterback Charlie Frye nor Derek Anderson stood out through four practices, although both had their best day of camp Sunday. Frye made some good plays, particularly with deep passes over the middle. But he’s thrown a lot of bad balls this weekend, the type that would skip a yard or two short of open receivers. Anderson’s arm looked better but was at times indecisive. It’s hard to tell if Frye is picking up the offense faster, or if it’s because Anderson is working more with second-team receivers and running backs.

-As rookie Brady Quinn’s contract holdout reaches day four, and the longer he waits, the further he falls out of the race. But a slow weekend by the quarterbacks helps Quinn, the first-round pick who for now remains in the mix by default.

-In a somewhat surprising development, receiver Tim Carter is working primarily with the first team over veteran Joe Jurevicius. Offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski says he’s feeling out his roster, but Chudzinski could be more comfortable playing the bigger Jurevicius in the slot as a No. 3 receiver. Carter, who was acquired in a trade for Reuben Droughns with the New York Giants, is more of a deep threat.

-Second-round cornerback Eric Wright is impressing coaches and teammates early. Athletically the UNLV product is flashing great speed, quick feet and fluid hips, which are all vital for his position. Wright was beat on a few passes over the weekend but he was usually in position to make the play. If Wright continues to improve he should help the team right away, potentially as a starter.

-The “Weight-Room Hero” award goes to safety Brodney Pool, who obviously packed on muscle this year and is busting out of his shoulder pads. There are many in the Browns organization that believe Pool is the team’s best athlete. He’ll get a chance to show it this season as a first-time starter.

Oh man, I can't wait to see Pool out there on the field, and I hope he has a Sean Jones-type leap. Two hard-hitting, ball-hawking safeties roaming our secondary would sure make receivers and QBs nervous!

Man, if we end up getting a good, fast, starting WR out of the Droughns trade, I will be ecstatic.

Which is kinda what's confusing me even more (not hard to do ). Baxter and Bentley went on the "active but PUP" list, but we haven't heard anything about Minter. I would think that if he was going to be out for a cuople of weeks, or even limited, that we would try to open up another roster spot?

This is just bugging me because I was one of the ones who thought that Minter would take a good run at the Nickle spot this yr. and possibley a starting spot by mid-season.

It could be a bad sign for him in that he hasn't even been mentioned by anyone in the pressers.

I was for sure that one report said he was in the boot, and that probably meant he would be on the sideline for 4-5 days...

so me personally, i assumed that it wasnt something serious, and that he would be on the field in a week..

Browns camp sights and sounds
Monday, July 30, 2007 3:18 AM
By James Walker

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Monday, July 30, 2007
Browns camp sights and sounds
Monday, July 30, 2007
Berea, Ohio
• Recap: The most surprising news came away from the practice field, when general manager Phil Savage announced that cornerback Gary Baxter, who suffered torn patellar tendons in both knees last year, will return to practice today.

Baxter promised last season that he would make it back, despite long odds. For the next few weeks, he is expected to do individual work only and no contact drills.

"He's had an unbelievable rehab," Savage said. "Really in his heart he feels like he's going to play this year, and there's no reason for us to think that he can't."

• Day's best: Tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. had a good day, highlighted by a 15-yard pass from Derek Anderson on which Winslow quickly turned upfield to gain another 20 or so yards. Winslow seemed to be frustrating the defense and was thrown hard to the ground by middle linebacker Andra Davis after a catch. Winslow popped up and congratulated Davis for roughing him up.

• Position battle: Charlie Frye and Anderson had their best practices so far, hitting their marks on most of their throws. Coach Romeo Crennel said neither player has stood out enough to gain a firm hold of the starting job.

• Rookie watch: Brady Quinn's holdout is approaching four days, and talks did not progress during the weekend. "We're residing in the same neighborhood, but we're not on the same street," Savage said. "That's the way I'd characterize it."

• Itinerary: Today the Browns will hold their second two-a-day, with a morning practice at 8:45 and an evening workout at 5:30.

• Quotable: "It bothers you, because you know who you really are but at the end of the day you can't control what anybody thinks, what anybody feels. All you can do is control what you do, what you say, what you think and how you play. Taking that into consideration, I guess I have matured from that standpoint and not worrying about what everyone else says, just being my own guy." -- Receiver Braylon Edwards, on developing the label of being immature and a bad teammate

• Cybercamp: Visit dispatch.com/sportsblogs for an overview of the Browns' first weekend of camp.

He hasn't done anything and always seems to have something wrong with him.

The guy sounds a bit frail to me.

The thing about it Peen is that he wasn't hurt at all (that I can remember) in college, EXCEPT for the injury that let him drop to us.

Is it the Browns luck that brings it out, or is it just a bad string for him.

Anyway, Just thought this kid could really help the team and hopefully this isn't a tiding of things to come for him. I would think that if they thought this particularly injury was going to last a all or hinder him for to long they would place him on PUP. So maybe that's a good sign that they haven't?

He hasn't done anything and always seems to have something wrong with him.

The guy sounds a bit frail to me.

He was healthy I believe his whole time in college. He did have surgery that put him out all of last year. This is a second injury but he will be ok in less than a week. If he doesn't stay healthy he won't make the roster the way it looks anyways. That would be a shame because of the way he played in college he might be an asset to this team.

-As rookie Brady Quinn’s contract holdout reaches day four, and the longer he waits, the further he falls out of the race. But a slow weekend by the quarterbacks helps Quinn, the first-round pick who for now remains in the mix by default.

Maybe Quinn and Condon really are brilliant. By holding out he can't make any mistakes and allows Frye and Anderson to show just how little they have improved. Maybe holding out will actually help him win the starting job.
