NON story alert . . . Report: NFL teams chafed by Browns' interest in Marcus Davenport. The Browns caused a stir Tuesday in Mobile. Josh Edwards - 19 hours ago Cleveland Browns General Manager John Dorsey disappeared with Texas-San Antonio defensive end Marcus Davenport for an excess of 40 minutes Tuesday for an unscheduled interview, which rubbed opposing NFL teams the wrong way according to Charles Robinson ( Tweet ) . Other teams were reportedly waiting to meet with the pass rusher. Davenport recorded 55 tackles, 8.5 sacks and three forced fumbles this season. The senior told NFL Network that he tries to emulate Houston Texans defensive end JJ Watt, Oakland Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack and Denver Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller. In a separate interview, Davenport stated that he has been motivated to be better than Myles Garrett, a Texas native also, since departing high school. The Browns have the No. 1 and No. 4 overall selections. The Texas native was projected No. 7 overall in the latest mock draft from Daniel Jeremiah. Author Josh Edwards

Wow, a month or two ago he was hard to find in the top 150 of anyone's draft board, now he's a top 10 pick. Crazy. I guess it is time to take him off of my list as a mid round guy to get excited about.

Could be Dorsey knows a lot of teams have him as a target, and wants to let them know he might have him as a target.....build a trade market.
Trading to the middle of the round up to #4 is pretty expensive.
I am sure Depo is letting him know the #4 pick is very valuable. If we are going to trade down a first rounder, that's the one. Especially if we have some targets with mid round grades. Why draft a player you love at #4 if you have a high percentage shot of getting him at 12?
I do like the mojo we have created. I like gaining future picks. We are about to start reaping the rewards, and can continue this until we are picking in the 20's. Heck, later. Billy B has been gaining picks for years.
I think Dorsey would be foolish to not build at least one more "super" draft with what he has this year. That is how he sets his future.
I like this FO. I feel comfortable. I liked what Sashi did, but he isn't here anymore, and can say many of the actual picks were questionable, but he did some good things. John needs to carry it 1 more year to secure his future.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

Why should we care what other teams want. If we like a player we have the same right to have access to them as they do.

Well, in any one Draft there might be 5 ELITE at the top. Sashi set us up beyond perfectly in draft assets and CAP Space. For that he deserves credit. It's time to POUNCE on 2 of those Top 5 ELITE. If we sign Cousins, I'm taking Barkley and Minkah-Fitzpatrick. NO DEALS. Smith? And I'm taking Darnold or Rosen and whoever is there between Barkley and Minkah-Fitzpatrick. NO DEALS.

IMO, we go all-in this draft, even to the point of using Day 2 and 3 picks to move up. I understand what you're saying 'peen', but we need some wins this season while also acquiring/developing quality players...

We have the same right to schedule an interview with a player and follow the process.. which we didn't do. The process is set up precisely to ensure that all teams have the same access to players and we violated that process.. we cheated and broke the rules..

When Tweets become "news". You're right Brown, non-story. From here on, I hope we chaff a lot of teams. In fact, I hope we become as reviled as the Pats. That will mean we're finally doing something right.

I didn't read anything in that article that says we broke any rules. What rule did we break? I am asking because I really don't know. Not to be snarky or something.

The team most pissed off would probably be the Colts, who need a dynamic edge rusher for their defense. I love hearing this, which means some front office person or scout had a major fit over Dorsey hanging out with a wanted prospect. All is fair in Love and the NFL Draft.
Just the dawg in me..........

Everyone seems to forget that we have multiple picks that we can trade back up into round 1 with. Dorsey may just like Davenport somewhere else in the draft.
