Lee had two options left... Here is the link to the story on Lee being sent down. Summing up today's moves:

Lofton on the 25-man and 40-man rosters.
Cliff Lee optioned to Buffalo.
Ed Mujica recalled to 25-man roster.
Hector Luna designated for assignment.

Lost in all this hype....Cliff Lee was sent packing to Buffalo. He should stop by a psychologist on the way. Too much talent. The problem is between the ears.

Can you confirm this? I hadn't seen it anywhere. IMO, this would be even better news than the Lofton trade. I had no idea Lee had options left! That is great, as we can get him off of our roster but not lose him permanently. Would love to see Laffey get a chance in Lee's spot.

Laffey will get his start. Shapiro on the radio right now confirming.

I'd really love to see Adam Miller brought up for a couple starts or even out of the bullpen. He's gotta get his feet wet sometime.

Adam Miller is hurt again. Sore elbow. I heard the words "Tommy John Surgery" brought up yesterday on a radio show and it made me shiver.

The #5 spot in the rotation would only be needed 3 times between now and Sept. 1. Don't be surprised if those starts end up going to Stanford and an extra bullpen arm gets kept up here.

I'm pretty sure I thought I heard him say Laffey will get some starts while Lee irons things out. Its a bit noisy in my room (4 servers, 3 PCs, an AC unit and fan) so I might be wrong.

Schwab said that on WTAM, I didn't hear Shapiro say it. Which probably means Laffey will get another short start in Buffalo before getting the call, if that is what happens.

Thanks log, that is awesome. I was just thinking yesterday that we were going to have to cut Lee or Stanford loose with another start like that. I am thrilled to be able to ship him off to the minors. I saw somewhere that Laffey has had an ERA under 2 since the start of June, I am hoping he can be the Sowers of last year. Looks like Sowers has been shaping up his last couple of starts too! I would like to see us get 1 more reliever. Although I would love to have Dotel, I would hate to give up Francisco!

FYI there is a lot of talk that the Indians are close to acquiring Octavio Dotel as well, for Ben Francisco. Can't wait for the 4 PM press conference this afternoon.

CLEVELAND (TICKER) -- The Cleveland Indians on Friday optioned struggling lefthander Cliff Lee to Class AAA Buffalo of the International League.

A major disappointment who started the season on the disabled list, Lee has gone just 5-8 with a 6.38 ERA in 16 starts. He has lost his last four starts since July 6, and on Thursday allowed seven earned runs in four innings as the Indians endured a 14-9 loss to the Boston Red Sox at Jacobs Field.

To take Lee's roster spot, the Indians recalled righthander Edward Mujica from Buffalo. Mujica returns for a fourth stint with the Indians this season, having pitched to a 10.57 ERA in five relief appearances.

What's Paul Assenmacher doing these days? I still think he could throw under a 10.57 era at age 47!!

I will stay positive and hope for the best, but I don't like it.

It might "snap" Grady up a notch.

Maybe they need to jerk the lineup around a little while they get the pitching unscrewed. Seems like they can't score for great pitching (i.e. the 2 Boston 1-0 games) or they crank out 9-11 runs after Lee's already done his damage.

The Yankees are coming,....

Basically we traded Wickman for a Lofton rental.

Which tells me that we're at a point where we are willing to trade away bits of the future for "Right Now" because they feel our time has arrived to make a run at it all.

It's something you do once in a while. Especially when you feel comfortable with the big league players. The Tribe has time to find another catcher since Shoppage looks to be a 10 year catcher.

But Ramirez is a top prospect no doubt....the guy should have a 12-15 year major league run....and be one of the better catchers around.

Wickman was going to be a free agent last year and we expected him to retire, so to be fair, we've traded a Wickman rental for a Lofton rental.

Maybe he should try AA first? He's a 22-year-old high-A player right now. Isn't he playing against 18-year olds?

Grady was a AA player when we sent Colon to the Expos. You just don't know how kids will handle the upper levels. Look at the year Crowe has had at Akron this year. Peter Gammons was calling him Ty Cobb before the season started. The fact Max is a patient, good eyed hitter certainly increases the likelihood of success at the higher levels. If he can hit, they will find a place for him.
Ya have to give up something to get something, that is just the way it is, and I think Kenny will help, but we need a couple of starters to start getting batters out. Another closer or established set up guy is needed also.

I'm lovin the Lofton trade. I hope he can bring us a world series.

for what? the guy is old old old... Maybe it was a mutual thing... he wants to retire an Indian and they figure they can use him for PR to get for fans in the stands?

I wonder how many people still have their #7 jerseys?

*raises hand* I was always a KL fan. He was a real cool guy and seemed to have fun.

Great return for Lofton.....he's a class act and I hope he enjoys his return to the Tribe squad and can help them throughout the season and beyond.

Lofton is pretty much a Cleveland legend... Now I know that sounds kind of weird, but everybody loves Kenny Lofton, back in the 90's everyone loved Lofton Omar and Sandy... They were loyal to the team and great players, they always get great ovations when they come back (although I don't think Omar has been back yet ) But the return of Lofton isn't just a player coming back, its a huge spark to this city... Hell I want to go down to the game today just to watch Kenny Lofton back, it's pretty much unreal to me right now.
