July 8, 2007 PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- Former NFL player and Fox Sports broadcaster Bill Maas was charged with drug possession and weapons charges following a roadside safety check. The 45-year-old Maas and a passenger in his Hummer, Sarah J. Murphy, 27, were arrested late Friday by Illinois State Police. During the stop, police indicated Maas seemed nervous, and he agreed to a search of his vehicle. Police found a .22-caliber revolver, 5 grams of suspected marijuana, 6 grams of suspected cocaine and 28 pills of Ecstasy. Maas and Murphy were charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. Maas was also booked on a charge of unlawful use of a weapon. "We didn't recognize him until about 5 p.m. this afternoon," Trooper Tony Halsey told the Journal Star of Peoria on Saturday. Halsey said he had no idea why Maas and Murphy, both residents of Lee's Summit, Mo., were in the area. They were taken to the Tazewell County Jail in Illinois and will appear for a bond hearing Sunday before a county circuit court judge. Maas was drafted from the University of Pittsburgh by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1984, and was the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year. He was a two-time All-Pro selection. He played with the Chiefs until 1992 and joined the Green Bay Packers the following year. Maas joined Fox in 1996. From 1998-01, he served as studio anchor and game analyst for NFL games. Last season he reported games for the network. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-broadcasterarrested&prov=ap&type=lgns

M O R O N Do we know what that spells, boys and girls? So much for his broadcasting career ....... and probably his freedom. I would have to think that the amounts described would result in felony charges against him.

I always wonder why people let the police search when they know they have something. Just say no.

In some weird bizarre kind of law, I believe saying 'no' provides enough suspicion that the law enforcement could then search the vehicle without the consent of the owner.
So saying 'no' really almost isn't an option.
I think anyway. Someone correct me please if I am wrong.

And one other thing...
Why is it that people of such privilege, status, and wealth always seem to find a way to screw it up?
I agree with YTown...moron.

The first mistake this guy made was carrying all of this with him. 28 pills of X. I understand that a quarter ounce of coke may be in order sometimes, as well as the weed. But seriously, what is this guy doing with 28 pills of X.
As for his arrest. His first problem is getting pulled over and acting in a way that would indicate to the authorities that he has something to hide. In this situation you need to put on your facade and pull the wool over eyes of the idiot in the blue suit. Its really quite simple. Obviously, this guy was an idiot. He was holding a Hunter S. starter suitcase, and didn't know how to handle it.
So yes, this guy is a moron. If you get busted with drugs, then either you are a moron, or you've gotten too complacent. Drugs will ruin your life--if you let them--so you have to have that understanding. You have to be ready to deal with some scumbag in a blue suit at any moment, and play their stupid little game, until they let you go---then you can chastise them in your vehicle laughing at the fact that johnny law just let multiple felonies slide right by him.
I wish to wash my Irish wristwatch......

I believe the law is if your glove compartment or trunk is locked, they need a search warrant. But I'm not sure.

Which is the first thing they'll do when and if you say no. So,yes means yes and no means yes.

Yeah, exactly.
If you say no, they obviously want to search for a reason. So, they bring in the dogs. Either way, you're screwed if you have something on ya.

You are one odd guy and I can't say that I like you very much.
In regards to Maas-----------too bad he blew it. I actually liked listening to him analyzing the games.
