Thanks! Problem is, probably about 90% of our population views it as nothing but a day off work, and most of them are complaining that it's on a Wed. this year.

I've lived in major cities my whole life, and just about 6 months ago my wife and I relocated to a small town in Indiana. The difference is stunning. There are American flags everywhere!

And there's a parade tomorrow and people have already lined the route with tarps and lawn chairs. And I honestly don't remember the last time I was at a 4th of July parade.

So I guess what I'm saying is, is that 7 months ago I would have completely agreed with you, now, I have a little different perspective.

GREAT!!! I was born and raised in a small town. Honestly, sometimes I get depressed reading about what happens in the cities - whether I get it from a paper, radio, or on here.........I'm telling you, living in a small town is fantastic! I feel sorry for the people that don't know their neighbors. I feel sorry for the people that can't go to a football game, softball game (even my 7 year old daughters), and not find 50 people to talk to - not about the game, but about life.

My son goes to college in Columbus - in just 1 year it's sad how he has changed. (I'm glad he has, cause if you live in a city with a small town attitude you'll get eaten alive), but still, it saddens me. I park one of my vehicles outside, and have for the last 10 years. I have taken the keys out of it once, and I locked it that time. When I came back, I discovered I had no door key for it. 10 years, with the keys in it every day, no one steals it. (probably helps that it's my Browns truck - kind of a custom paint job - anyone that stole it would be nailed in a heartbeat I"m guessing, cause if I'm not driving it, people would call the cops)

Regardless, small towns are the fabric of America. I'm glad you're happy in one, and know that I wouldn't change my location, either. Let the city boys have their thing. I'm a country boy. I love knowing that when I drive through town I'll spend more time waving at friends and customers than I will sitting at stop lights.

I wonder what the approval rating for this war was?

It was phenomonal, right up until it looked like the Brits would win. Then, public opinion swayed, the polls said "it's not worth it", "this is George's war" (isn't that ironic?), and the public fell into bickering over what to do, not do........finally, someone decided "let's take the fight to them. let them have their battlefields, all lined up in a row, we'll sit behind the trees and kill them".

When the public realized they would not be able to sit on the sidelines of a battle, they were upset. (and they did - the 2 armies would meet in an open area, lined up in rows, and shoot each other as civilians stood/sat on the sides and watched).

It went on this way for a little bit until the public realized that, hey, this ragtag army is beating the snot out of the brits.

July 4th was born.

Now, relate that to today. Instead of running from ...........ah, it's not worth it.

Happy 4th to all! Remember what it means, and what was given to get it. God Bless.

Actually in the newer settlements where the people were dealing with the Shawnees, Delawares etc the approval rating wasn't so great. I just read about it in "The Frontiersman" a book about Simon Kenton.

Happy 4th to you all anyway.
