Just think about the future and how many lives this thing could save (e.g. rescue people from a burning building, people trapped in high flood waters, people trapped in mountain areas, and etc.). We could do all of this without dangering the life of any rescuer. You could make hundreds of these and scatter them in a disaster struck area.
A. drone's will kill off some jobs. Also, the training to operate said drones takes a while, especially depending on how you're operating one.
for example, 15W is an MOS in the military for UAV operator.
training takes at least 6 months. And that's the streamlined military training, which military training in AIT tend not to be all that great to begin with.
I'm a huge supporter of Drones, btw. Combat, support, or freaking delivering packages, makes no difference to me.
i'm just pointing out the obvious crap storm that's gonna take place the more popular drones become.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
maybe. but Vets with those skills will already have job offers out the gate.
the industry itself will create jobs in general. from piloting to repairs and such.
the question is always this: will this future industry create more jobs than the number of jobs lost because of said industry?
because what's gonna happen is that companies will hire pilots for multiple operations.
because you know what else drones will take over? those sky action news guys in their helicopters reporting on traffic in the morning.
or the guys in the sky during a police chase or standoff.
it becomes a hell of a lot cheaper than maintaining a chopper.

yep. and now they are gonna be all up in your yard, eating your grass cause they're unemployed.
damn takers.

I think the amazing thing about the above video is the above video.
Very cleverly choreographed to make that drone appear to be doing stuff it can’t do.
For instance, what kind of energy source on a drone can lift 200 lbs? Can an electric battery do that? If it can I can’t believe it could do it for more than a very few seconds.
I would think the battery weight itself would be prohibitive.
I can believe the drone pulling the skier for a few yards on a specially prepared surface, especially downhill. Or off a specially prepared roof top. (notice how the video is several spliced clips with no continuous shot of more than a few seconds)
I’d be amazed if we currently have the technology to make anything like depicted in the video.
I think if we had that technology now, we’d see it in other uses before these guys built it in their basement to play with.
Clever video though.
Hopefully we’re headed in the depicted direction, right?
It'll get real interesting when robots build the drones, and computers and gps run the drones. Won't need humans for anything other than to buy stuff we don't need, can't afford, and don't use.

What a great thought.
I'm waiting for Bluetooth-enabled 'self-surveillance drones.'
They'll hover 10 ft above and 10 ft behind a person, provide a 360° field of view, and beam a signal to a secure server, 24/7. Their feeds will also be 'Periscope' and 'fb live'-enabled. Folks will be able to be the directors of their own personal life movies, every minute of their lives.
Maybe this innovation is just what we need to finally put an end to that pesky little 'Black Lives Matter' movement.
"Automated surveillance: It's America's future."

too soon? too raw?
Hey- I just finished a run of 18 concerts and 10 rehearsals in a span of 23 days. I had quite a few stiff drinks tonight with friends, and I'm in a feisty, irreverent mood. I'll be "Mellow Mr. Cello" again tomorrow. Tonight- I'm crackin' 'off-color' jokes. Laugh if it tickles your 'funny bone,' but please DON'T make more of it than it actually is. Remember who raised me, and what he did for a living. Respect and satire live in 2 different universes.

It'll get really interesting when humanity realizes how inefficient humanity and our bodies are. The singularity is coming.
Imagine if we had had an army of drones on 9/11. How many lives could have been saved? (especially if they were equipped with a tool that could cut through glass)
One of the reasons so many people died in the twin towers was that access to the roof of the north tower was locked. Imagine drones with various tools, that could have opened those locked doors .... maybe with cutting tools.
Also, the authorities didn;t want more fuel potentially being added to the fire. However, if a drone runs on a non-flammable fuel source, that eliminate a problem as well.
So many people die in floods because there is no way for anyone to reach them, and drones could easily help there, probably more than in any other area. Drones wouldn't cause problems with massive down-force, like I would think helicopters do when trying to rescue someone from flood areas.
You would need qualified operators available at a moment's notice, but I would think that these could cover a fairly large area, and some could even fly most hours of the day, just to be in the air and ready to respond at a moment's notice. Some could be outfitted with firefighting equipment, and could respond to fires, even ahead of the firemen, and could potentially knock down or lessen fires even before firefighters arrive.
I am really torn over the use of drones to assassinate people, as our government has done .... but i think that there could be really good, life saving uses of the technology.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

This sounds like it was prophesied by Frank Herbert in his 1965 book, Dune. He incorporated both of these items.
