PFF got Shelton ranked the best nose tackle in the league... We got something to build on! __ Nose tackle: Danny Shelton, Cleveland Browns, 82.6 Nose tackle may be a dying position, but there are still enough of them out there to warrant recognition on the PFF Midseason All-Pro team, and the best this year has been Cleveland’s Danny Shelton. Shelton has begun to show the promise that his college career demonstrated, leading all defensive interior players with 30 stops on the season; he’s also been a force against the run. Second Team: Linval Joseph, Minnesota Vikings, 82.7 link

I've never heard of midseason all-pro team but hey, we will take it. What matters most is that Shelton keeps it up and makes the "real" All Pro team. Maybe this will give Danny some added incentive..hopeso.

That is not possible. So many people around here told me he was a bust, a waste of a pick, a baffoon last season. That I was a brainless idiot for sticking up for him last season. You know all those people who run their mouths when they don't know squat, then they run away and disappear after that.

He's having a very good year ... he's not the best NT in football ...
Will be interesting to see if any of this years rooks make the leap that Danny did ....
Most players show their most progress between years 1 and 2 ... Danny made a HUGE LEAP ...
I think its bogus but Congrats Mr. Shelton, you are having one hell of a year for us ...

If Danny does not keep his pad level down, and keep his weight down, while busting his ass he could suck again next year. His future has nothing to do with his talent. It has everything to do with his heart.
I pray he stays hungry.

You know all those people who run their mouths when they don't know squat, then they run away and disappear after that. Not sure if you are being totally accurate there, bro. You were kinda down on him last year, too. You spoke about his pad level, his conditioning, and his inability to stay on the field. We all saw it. It took awhile, but I think most people have agreed that he is playing much better this year.

and MOST people around here labeled him as a bust, and a waisted draft pick. Just like they do every year when a rookie is not inducted into the HOF after his 8th game.
They doubted the pads, the effprt, his heart, his will, his intelligence, and everything else about the kid. Those folks deserve a swift smack in the mouth.

IMO, the difference between Shelton's rookie year and year 2 is the weight he lost and being in better condition this season.
In the upcoming off season, Shelton needs to lose another 20-25lbs and hit the weights, getting stronger and faster. If he stays committed to improving himself, he could be NFL ALL-Pro next season.

before we anoint Shelton the next Vince Wilfork let's keep in mind
1. yes he's improved with pad level conditioning and his leverage. but the Browns run defense is still the leagues worse remove Shelton from the Browns it's still the worst
2. yep he has alot tackles but if a NT has alot of tackles that tells me the defense isn't getting off the field on 3rd down
3. how many yds downfield is his tackles?

I am happy to admit that I was wrong. Leading up to and just after the draft I was very anti Danny. Love the guy but I didn't see the fit or the skill set. Multiple times I said he was a more agile Rubin (whom wed just let walk). They still are very similar. I said Danny would excel shooting gaps, pushing the pocket and shutting down zone runs but would be horrid at anchoring which is what we asked him to do alllllllll last year. In that matter I was right.
But we are using him properly and his anchor game is at least average now.
That said I did not bash his play or call him a bust. I just never thought he had the ceiling of any more than an average starter. Frankly I thought that would be a stretch.
I'm very happy to see this. I highly value PFF as a stats guy compared to pro bowls or media or any of you guys lol.

he has definitely improved and seems more athletic as well. I'm really hoping he doesn't stop here though. Another offseason and year of experience could be big
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

If Shelton plays the last half of the season like he did the first, he'll be in the Pro Bowl.
It is always a big worry that NT's will keep their weight at a level that let's them play at a high level. It's no different with Shelton.
It is a good sign for a rebuilding team to start with a piece in the middle of the trenches to build on.

We should stop this constant pattern of pointing out every time someone's opinion changes as if they committed some grave act of hypocrisy. I thought Danny Shelton was a great pick. Then I thought he was super fat and lazy and sucked. Now I think he's great. As a fan, I am allowed to change my mind when I think the facts have changed. I'm not the damn GM. Vers has said he was wrong on Carson Wentz when he said he wasn't worth a first. Well he WAS wrong for the first four games. But he might be right now. I am happy to hear his opinion, even if it evolves. It is sad to see us get personal over this stuff. We are all just long suffering fans of this cursed franchise. And now, I turn the sermonizing over to Pastor Marc.

Browns' Danny Shelton reveals he had wrist surgery 'so I can kill it this season' CLEVELAND, Ohio - Browns defensive tackle Danny Shelton revealed Wednesday that he recently underwent surgery on his left wrist "so I can kill it this season.''
The surgery surfaced last week when Shelton volunteered with local police chiefs, and the Browns community engagement account, @BrownsGiveBack tweeted a photo of Shelton with a black cast on his left arm.
When fans expressed their concern on Twitter, Shelton calmed their fears.
"I'm all good,'' he tweeted. "Just had my wrist cleaned up so I can kill it this season.''
When one fan tweeted, "he has a cast on....noooooo,'' Shelton replied "no worries, I'll be ready for the season.''
Shelton, the Browns' No. 12 overall pick in 2015, is gearing up for his new defensive coordinator in Gregg Williams, who will run multiple fronts. Shelton played nosetackle in Ray Horton's 3-4 scheme, and took a big jump in 2016 from his rookie season.
"I personally was disappointed he did not get into the Pro Bowl,'' said Horton, who was fired after the season. "I think he is on that trajectory to be a Pro Bowl player for us. He is a very smart player, very bright, very intelligent and very witty. He can dominate the line of scrimmage with his athleticism, with his strength, with his tenacity and with his nastiness. That is where I see him going.
"How did he do this year? He did well. He did what we wanted him to do. Did we have ups and downs? Yeah, we had ups and downs as a unit and as a team, but Danny is going to be one of the bright stars of the league because he can play that position, and he is smart and he can play it very well." Looks like he's killing it on and off the field!

I was probably the most anti Danny poster pre draft. Loved the guy just not the skill set for us. I thought he was an atrocious fit as a 34 NT. He excelled against zone runs/high motor guy and was above average pushing the pocket and shedding single blocks but horrid anchoring. I wasn't wrong. His rookie year was a train wreck.
This past year he improved to average in those traditional senses but we used him in a variety of ways and it allowed him to use his skill set better. I still think he probably gets more credit on here than he deserves as of yet.
However what he will be asked to do this year is exactly where I thought he could be a probowl talent. I won't be surprised if he gets the nod. This system as a 0 or 1 fits him like a glove.

Pre draft I thought he played way too high for NFL. This is exactly what we are talking about players who are football players and want to be the best they can be. Take advantage of their first off season as a professional Football player to get in the proper condition...Weight...and work hard on their technique. Shelton went from average rookie to one of our top prospects. How many of the 19 from last year are now working hard to be instrumental to our team.
Also title is miss leading - never mind this was written in mid 2016 season and got All-Pro Team at least from PFF All Pro.
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
