They gained selections in the fourth (No. 138 overall) and fifth (Nos. 172 and 173) rounds.
Giving us 10 total; 1st - 2 2nd - 32 3rd - 65 4th - 99 4th - 138c 5th - 141 5th - 172c 5th - 173c 6th - 176 7th - 233
(by my calcs, subject to change)
The Browns were awarded three compensatory picks in this year's draft, the NFL announced Friday.
They gained selections in the fourth (No. 138 overall) and fifth (Nos. 172 and 173) rounds.
Compensatory selections, positioned in the third through sixth rounds, are given to a team that loses more or better compensatory free agents than it acquired the previous year. Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. Not every free agent lost or signed qualifies.
As explained by the NFL, the Browns lost wide receiver Miles Austin, tight end Jordan Cameron, quarterback Brian Hoyer, defensive lineman Ahtyba Rubin, linebacker Jabaal Sheard and cornerback Buster Skrine in free agency last year. They gained tight end Rob Housler and cornerback Tramon Williams.
Compensatory picks cannot be traded this year. A rule change approved last year will permit compensatory choices to be traded beginning in 2017.
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

Next year it looks like we'll get even better picks. Thank goodness draft day is our Super Bowl.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I say we just keep trading back until we acquire every single pick in the 2034 draft.
Then watch out, NFL.
