Discouraging Article

May have been mentioned elsewhere on here... but for Schefter on ESPN to say this prompting his co-anchor's reaction is not a good look for the organization. Business Insider even weighed in on their website. I am hoping the Harvard Alumni Association can offer more than what the public sees right now.

Who'd have ever thought you, of all people, would show up with a "Discouraging Article"?

Make fun of the poster and ignore the message.

Who would have ever thought that was possible on this board?

If Schefter's relationships with all the NFL's top player agents results in him commenting on the clients' (players in this case) perception of the team on a national stage, then football is/will be affected.

Schefter is paid to do this sort of thing, but the data he gathered to make his point came from people who are instrumental for teams to gather football talent. The front office ostracizing those people greatly affects the players we would have to play football with.

That's pretty much the gist of it.

I had to laugh at what Gipson said. The Jaguars have been sorry as hell. Just say you went for the money. If you wanted to be on a "winner" there's a lot better options.

The Jaguars have the QB piece in place, and that it the hardest piece of the puzzle to find. I think that he is going to be the next great NFL QB. Their defense was troublesome last year, and they improved with Gipson, not to mention adding Malik Jackson from the Broncos. They also added Chris Ivory at RB.

I suspect that the Jags will take a huge step forward this year.

I'd like to see Bortles complete more than 60% of his passes and not throw more bone headed than anyone else before I label the next great QB.

Bortles is competent in an Andy Dalton/Peyton Manning (hehe) kind of way. You don't have to have Newton to win in the NFL, but you can't have the McCown's and Weedens of the world. If we drafted a guy who's ceiling is Matt Ryan I would be fine with that, and I do believe Bortles will be that kind of guy.

The improvement he made from year 1 to year 2 was remarkable.

I'm fairly positive he based his comment on what Benji had to say. Which isn't surprising considering Benji comes from one of the sunniest places, and is now going to be playing in one of the sunniest places.

I think Jax is a team on the rise.

They got a good qb. Most understood that it would take Bortles time to develop. He was awful as a rookie, but made a lot of progress in his second year. The talent is there. cfrs is in denial.

They also have three very good WRs for him. Big and fast. They have a good TE.

They were lacking a RB and got one in Ivory.

Their defense was the real problem last year. They have made actual moves to improve that unit rather than talk about their new plans like one franchise does.

Additionally, I think their coach is top-shelf. He hasn't gotten much notoriety because the team has been down, but that guy has a bright future. Just like the team.

So, you can laugh at Gipson but I doubt the Browns have the last laugh.

The irony.

Mack was here for 6, Thomas is going on what, 9? and is signed for more, Haden has been here for 5 and is signed for more, Greco has been here for 4 and is still here.

Shef makes it sound as if all players leave after 4 years,, he forgets that sometimes, we don't want them to stay.

From my perspective, he still has a bit of a point and who could blame the players. I doubt there is one of them that doesn't want to win. And let's face it, for a multitude of reasons, we've not been winners.
