www.clevelandbrowns.comBraylon Edwards, Jamal Lewis, Brady Quinn, Crennel. I'm watching the Crennel one and Braylon started off on the third team because he missed first day OTA's... Good stuff so far.

Wow, RAC seemed a little fired up that guys keep asking about Braylon missing the first day.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

I'm guessing that he thinks its stupid for the reporters to keep asking the same questions different ways,, I know I'd get pretty annoyed with it if I were RAC....

I'd chew out the Reporters the way Bobby Knight does if they kept asking me the same question in a different way.

That is why I liked Ditka. He would just look at the reporter and ask him if he was a dummy.
If I was RAC, I would say since the questions are all the same and the answer is the same, the PC is over.
At some point you have to control the process a bit no matter your standing with the fans, press, or team.
I agree, there is no such thing as a stupid question... just stupid questioners.

Maybe if he just answerred the damned question, they'd quit asking.
And if the reason WERE legit.,it wouldn't be a problem answerring it,would there?

If you actually listened to his presser he answered the question...again.
Also he stated that he was with the 3rd team then moved up with the 2nd team...and will also move around to the first team. He said they are moving everyone around (meaning the WRs) guess 1st 2nd 3rd is CF DA and BQ.

A few things I noticed on the OTA film and the Braylon Film.
Could it be possible that they put Braylon in with the thirds secretly to get some reps with Brady and nobody would think anything of it?
Why will our receiver coaches not step up and tell Braylon he doesn't have to jump for every friggin ball. I watched Braylon almost every single game he has played in since coming here and he ALWAYS jumps for the ball even when he doesn't have to. He could be gaining and extra 4-5 yards by not jumping and breaking stride or he could even just burn some people on some routes. If he does have a step by the time he jumps a DB is right on him. not to mention he leaves himself open for punishment, hence the Jacksonville game where he tore his knee up.
Wright and Pool look completely fluid running over the bags. Head up and just motoring through them. Caught everything thrown to them in that drill as well without losing any consistency running.
Just a few things I noticed.
That is pretty much the only ones I have watched yet. Other than the two interviews from Lewis and Braylon.

The important thing is some Yahoo doesn't get too fired up and goes just a bit harder than requested in an effort to impress...that is when guys get a knee blown out...and it is usually a vet who knows the drill v a rookie nobody who isn't going to have many chances to shine.
I almost wish they didn't have these things.

I doesn't matter what RAC told the reporters.
He told Braylon he'd be playing with the 3rd team.
RAC blew if off publicly. That's his style.
But Braylon got the message alright.
Let's SEE what he does with it.

He missed the first day of Organized Team Activities.
He was the only member of the Browns players not there.
The media was all over it.
The fans were all over it.
Floyd Reese, former general manager of the Tennessee Titans, talked about it...
"I think if you're a club trying to get to a next level -- whatever that next level is -- I think it's probably important [to attend]," Reese said. "It's not do or die. But it's important because it shows you're all pulling on the same rope and all have the same focus and striving for the same thing ."
"Players have to realize that the guys out there in front of the cameras pledging to say and do all the right things, well, they need to do all the right things," Reese said.
"The ideal thing for Cleveland, of course, would be to say something like You know, it was confused as a real issue . . . he just couldn't be there,' " Reese said. "It would be nice if there were a legitimate reason, and you put it to bed as soon as possible."
When he showed up he worked with the 3rd team.
Because he had a legitimate reason.
No big deal here.

it is rediculous that people are getting so upset about this. For all we know, he could have been sick, his family could have, or something else legit. It was a voluntary portion of his job, and atleast he called off.
Would you (anyone) want people to chastise you and investigate you everytime you called off work. Most Cleveland Media and some fans need to chill out

Really? Previously, Leon said he missed because he was in a charity golf event. What's the story now?

The golf event took place on Monday, supposedly the family emergency happened Tuesday. So either he's lying (which most people seem to believe) or he missed because of a family emergency on Tuesday.
He also never said he missed because of the golf event. That was stated by the media and initially stated to have happened on Tuesday (which it didn't).

Are we really still discussing BE missing day 1, that was so last week.

Really? When did "Leon" say this? Wasn't it actually that some people found that he participated in a charity golf tournament on Monday and automatically leaped to that conclusion? Braylon has yet to really comment on the situation, other than most recently where he said that there was a family emergency, to my knowledge. Everything else has been media and fans trying to put him into a corner.

I don't know, that is why I was asking. It is okay to ask, isn't it? I do know that Leon's supporters were saying he missed the OTA to raise money for charity and how could we condemn him for that. Now, it's a family emergency. And I do know what his teammates think about him. In fact, you guys might want to dig up why he isn't the player rep anymore.

Hey "coach." Will you go over to Diam's thread and help me educate people on defenses and coverages? It will help us talk about football, people can learn, and we wouldn't be talking about Leon. Sounds good, huh. I'm looking forward to reading your expertise on the matter.

Of course it's okay to ask. I still would have supported the charity golf event excuse, which seems to be an initial misprint from the media on what day that event actually happened.
It's unfortunate that his teammates feel that way about him. I actually feel bad for him if nothing else. Going from winning to losing all the time AND having your teammates dislike you, probably isn't easy.
I've heard from other sources you have some inside knowledge on some of the players. I've always found it interesting on what they have to say off the record. There is one particular player I think is absolute trash (and no just because I bash Frye, it isn't him) that doesn't even want to play for the Browns.

Why? So you can tell me I'm wrong and you're right and my ideas are stupid and yours are better. What could I possibly gain from sharing my ideas about defenses and coverages with YOU?
Edit: Well, I finally found a day and half to go read everything in that thread and quite honestly, I'm not sure what I can add that you haven't already broken down in clear, explicit detail. What can I say? You put on a clinic over there. Your knowledge of various coverages and schemes is well-'vers'ed.
The one thing I would add is that while most coverages (Cover 2, Cover 3, etc.) are pretty much universal with the safeties and corners assigned to their respective responsibilities divying up the field and whatnot, obviously the intricacies of the schemes must be adapted to fit the level of play, maturity, skill set and ability of your personnel. In other words, high school QBs must be well-versed in how to read high-school defenses. The names stay the same but the level of play varies quite largely as you move up the ranks. But again, I'm not saying anything that anyone with even a small amount of football IQ doesn't already know. In fact, I'm not sure what I would accomplish by sitting here and typing out everything I know about how to read coverages and what calls to make in order to have my players pick up blitzes, make the correct calls on the line and the like. Besides, I'm a defensive coordinator, so I spend most of my time breaking down various offensive sets than anything else.

What I got out of the press conferences...
Romeo and Braylon both seemed irritated with the media about Braylon missing. I can see why, I don't know the whole story so I won't judge, but Braylon should have expected it.
Jamal Lewis feels like he can do things he couldn't do the past couple years physically. He sounds very sure of it. That can only be a good thing.
Quinn once again continues to impress me. He has a maturity well beyond his years, you can even get glimpses of his football IQ. He seems to know every variable in which he has to learn from.

Well,my only question would be,why is Edwards (#1 WR) catching passes from the "clip board holder" if his excuse was legit.? Other than that,I agree with what you took away from it. It's obvious to me that you don't put your #1 WR on the third team just so "the clip board holder" feels better about his "personal image". Most of the "football posters" I respect see pretty much the same picture. I think it's pretty basic elementary school math. Let's just hope that's all behind us now and "he gets it". Note to self; Good Lord I wish I had a dollar for every time I said that last line!

Well, the "clipboard holder" won't be a clipboard holder for long, if you think about it.
Could have been a punishment with a subtle hint towards the future. I dunno.
I wonder what kind of family emergency it was, that term is thrown around so often in sports that I almost feel numb to it. But I don't wanna pry too much.

Well,I have no idea either Ammo. But I can "guess" it was one of two things. 1. It was SO personal and serious they CAN'T tell us. 2. It was so lame of an excuse that they WON'T tell us. I'm not sure which myself.

If I know RAC, this was nothing more than showing everyone the same thing he's done since he's been here: If you miss time, you fall behind. It's a new system and everyone needs to be here to learn it. BE missed a day so he's that far behind everyone else. RAC plays no favorites and makes EVERYONE earn their spot. BE has to earn back his spot for missing a crucial practice session. If anything, it'll teach him (and everyone else, for that matter) to think twice before missing another practice, regardless of the reason . I don't think RAC has any hidden agenda here. I think his motives are very clear.

I don't think anyone is questiong "RAC's intentions". We're just not sure of ALL of the "factors" that motivated him in "this instance".

To me it's pretty much common sense on why he wasn't with the first team on his first day back. He hadn't been on the field and needed a chance to see it in action from the people that were there.
If Wilson is actually a #1 like he claims and can beat out Braylon for the spot, that's awesome for us. It means we have 2 WRs that have a good deal of ability. According to Quinn though Braylon is the real deal and has superb route running ability (isn't that contradictory to what everyone says about him???)

Yeah, well, we may never know if there even were factors motivating him in his decision, let alone what they might have been. I guess my point is why assume there were certain "factors" that played into his decision when you can just look at how he has treated all of his players since he became the head coach here.... everyone earns their spot, no one gets preferential treatment, if you miss time, you ride the pine. I don't think there are any factors that make this instance stand out at all. Braylon Edwards is not being treated any different than Player X or Player Y. I just think this is how RAC operates. Nothing has changed in his approach.
