It was important to us that we communicate directly with you regarding our decision to part ways with General Manager Ray Farmer and Head Coach Mike Pettine. We greatly appreciate Ray’s and Mike’s dedication and hard work while with the Cleveland Browns. We’ve made this difficult decision because we don’t believe our football team and football operations were positioned well for the future. We are all disappointed with where we are and clearly understand your frustrations. We take full responsibility and understand you expect better from us. Your support and loyalty to the Browns is beyond compare, and as the stewards of this franchise, we take the task of creating success to heart. We are confident we will build a winning football organization. Our focus as we move forward is on finding strong, smart leaders with high character who are relentlessly driven to improve our football team, willing to look at every resource possible to improve, and who embrace collaboration to ultimately make the best decisions for the Cleveland Browns. We will approach the search for our next football coach and executives to lead our football operations with a clear vision regarding what we need to do to build a successful organization. Along with strong leaders, we need to build out a strategic plan, stay disciplined to it, and develop the right systems and processes to make better decisions for short and long-term success. We will be methodical in looking at candidates that epitomize the values we have laid out. While we understand the inherent challenges that come with changes, we’ve learned valuable lessons during our past four years as owners that will help us make sure we provide our team the best people, leadership and resources to succeed. Our family is deeply committed to bringing you the winning team you deserve while continuing to try and make a difference in the community. We are excited for the new opportunities ahead of us and embrace the hard work that needs to be done. Respectfully and gratefully yours, Dee and Jimmy Hallam

Having a vision and a strategic plan will be a start. Having actual football people who know football will help the football operation.
Good luck.
After 55 years, I'm walking away from this dumpster fire. Good luck to everyone who continues to hang on. You'll need it.

Well that's that. Here we go again. That letter sounded like so many of those letters do I had to force myself to read the whole thing.
Good bye Joe, it was nice having you on the line.
This is really gonna be the start over to beat all others. We're probably gonna lose more guys than we ever have now.
WE DON'T NEED A QB BEFORE WE GET A LINE THAT CAN PROTECT HIM my two cents...

Owners Haslam should fire himself. He is, by far, the worst owner in the NFL. Anyone else remember, many years ago, before the Colts 1st moved out of Baltimore ..... when "Irsay" was a synonym for "completely idiotic football decisions, and a complete lack of any football sense"? Haslam is the modern day Irsay. Heck, he might even be worse. On to the next rebuild. Maybe I'll stick around for it. Maybe not. I have about had it with this crap.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Hey Jimmy, kiss me where the sun doesn't shine. Get it right? You'd better, because you'll be doing it without my dollar.
I wish you luck. Let me give you a bit of advice: I ain't buying a ticket. Gussy up the stadium all you want, change uniforms all you want. Preach to us how this next coach and gm will be the "answer". Here's the deal, Mr. Marketer: A football team isn't about marketing. It's about winning. You don't win by changing regimes every 2 years. Period. You studied marketing? Well, kind sir, many other teams have studied winning.
Good luck James Haslem.
Sincerely,
A dude that loves Cleveland and will still go to Cleveland - just not for the Browns games.
Figure it out. You're on the clock James.

Owners Such a crock of marketing baloney. "we take full responsibility" BULL. You blame. "we need to build out a strategic plan, stay disciplined to it" Can't do that James, when you hit "reset" every 2 years.

Thank goodness. I was hoping that it would either be both Pettine and Farmer fired or neither of them fired. I didn't want some "half a clean slate" do-over. Farmer was terrible and Pettine didn't impress me in any coaching facet.

Mr. Haslam hire a good solid GM. Let him pick his coach and the coach his assistants and then let them run things. If you don't know whom to hire as GM hire a consultant, a proven football man like Ron Wolf, Bill Polian or a Bill Parcells etc. to help you. It's time to get it right there have been too many failures. Browns fans deserve better but I think you already know that. Best of luck to you.

I'm just glad it's all over. Jimmy did the right thing pulling the plug tonight.
Pettine is a nice guy, and a good man, but you can't be last against the run in 2 years and keep your job. Unacceptable. That's the start.
I kinda wish Scheiner would have been added. This needs to be a top down removal. If Jimmy is not going to be an everyday owner from Cleveland, he needs to have a strong presence in that building. For both management and players. I think we're all tired of the Disney World atmosphere around there.
I believe Johnny is gone too. I don't care if he was in Vegas or not, but I believe whoever takes over is going to want fresh bodies, and to not have to take questions about your quarterback's personal life.
I just hope we can let the GM pick his coach so they can work together.
I think there is strong belief that Tennessee is likely to go tackle with the first pick. Whoever takes over will have his choice of any QB or defensive player. Bosa, Lynch, whomever. Hopefully they don't trade back, because I think we're all sick of this stokpiling picks so we can take marginal guys later on. Quality over quantity. Hire a coach who can develop talent. Pettine developed NOBODY during his time in Cleveland. Duke Johnson and Nate Orchard have somewhat come along, but that's been it.
Browns will have the 32 pick too, because NE forfeited their first. Once again the Browns will have two top-32 selections. Three years in a row. Don't freaking trade down.
I'm more worried about them finding a coach than I am a GM. I think there are probably good personnel/evaluation people out there. Finding someone who can take over this mess, and find growth and progress in the first two years? Ugh.
Hang in there guys. I really think this group will eventually get this right.

I'm for continuity, but these guys showed no promise. They actually got worse.
All one can do is hope. With money like Haslam has, I can't believe he can't hire the best. Something has to give.......someday.

Please, sell the team Jimmy.
Please. Sell this team while I can still love and support it. You have been successful in business, but it is painfully aware that you have absolutely no clue how to run an NFL team. You don't understand the building process that has to take place, and that you can't just stick players in and have them automatically be successful. You don't seem to understand that sometimes a player needs the mental/emotional side built. Sometimes injuries hit. Sometimes, even players hand picked by the owner are complete head cases.
Get out of the NFL while your image of a successful businessman is still intact. You do not know what you are doing, and you obviously do not have the temperament to be a successful NFL owner. I think that you had good intentions, but man, firing 3 head coaches and GM in 5 years is not the way to success in the NFL. This team has been a mess for 15 years. It is going to take time to turn it around, and that means patience. (something you lack completely) Please, sell now, while the team still has value. Make a nice profit. Do a kind deed for the fans of the Cleveland Browns, and sell the team. Please. I am begging you. Sell now Jimmy. Sell the team now.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

So how does that impact the rest of the coaching staff and all the coordinators? Are they in limbo or are they shown the door today or wait until we hire a new coach?

I am praying that is an unfounded rumor. If true it might just be the straw that broke this camels back. They better get someone with experience. Plenty of candidates available.
