And you think it's Trump? You don't think both parties do that? If you have a problem with the tax laws, elect different people than the ones that make the laws: Hint: It isn't a president.

Thanks P. There is a lot to unpack in that article. Hopefully I’ll get my head wrapped around it at some point to try and formulate a logical, well-reasoned thought. Right now I have a lot going on in my mind about it.

I don’t know for sure either, since nothing has happened, it would all be conjecture at this point. I’m just going with what I believe to be a common sense approach. That stems from this: if you own a business and you realize that tips won’t be taxed, how would you like to classify most of your income? We’ve already seen tipping expand to just about everything. I think this would incentivize everyone who isn’t already tipflating to give it a shot.

I’m sure there are ways to tailor it, but do I have confidence that would happen correctly? No, no I do not.

I gotta admit, I don’t really know where you were going with that one, Hitt.

Lol. Want to talk about fat cats? Just look at the increase in the net worth of Pelosi, Biden, Schumer, Clintons, et al while in office. Do you think that was due solely to smart investment of their government salaries?

You need to take that article with a grain of salt. It is a Heritage Foundation response. My guess is that it was intended to build opposition to the IRS legislation by saying that it would adversely affect service workers and not the larger corporations…

Personally, I agree with doglover05 that it opens a Pandora’s Box to everyone who thinks they should be tipped. There are better alternatives such as higher standard deduction or a higher minimum wage..

If it is to be implemented, the worker needs to be paid less than minimum wage. Tips make up the difference.

The challenge with the existing system is that service workers know that the wage and tip amount has to be greater than minimum wage, and it is self reported.. and there is the rub. Well tipped service workers under report.

Tracking the actual tips submitted electronically would solve that problem…

So you're suggesting people shouldn't be expected to pay their taxes on taxable income? And yes arch, I'm aware. There has always been a percentage placed on what tips are. Where have you been?

WTH does that even mean? In the real world the monies and taxes on that income you listed are real. They are law and they are supposed to be paid. Do you live in some world where they aren't?
