Ok, this thread has the potential to go sideways. willynilly

I’m going to make a bold prediction. We have historically bounced back after humiliations. DW’s most recent case is settled. As much as he claims he doesn’t hear it, acknowledging that he doesn’t hear the criticism means he hears it. If he has any ability to snap out of it, and reclaim even a wisp of the QB he once was, this is the game. Because the Browns are just so freakin’ random, I’m betting this is close or even a W. I’m also predicting our first game over 20pts.

34-17 - Pumpkins (yea yea, I know)

If it’s the more likely outcome of another humiliating defeat, benching him becomes much more real IMO. Not sure it’ll happen yet but it’s another decisive data point. Because of the money and all the implications and knock-on things that will happen after that, they’re going to give DW every opportunity to sink or swim before making that move. So the only “loss” in my mind is a narrow defeat where he plays relatively well compared to his recent games but still not good enough to be the difference maker. It’s like a straddle option, anything that’s pretty decisive or definitive and lends confidence to future decision making is a good thing IMO.

Cleveland fans have always wanted a hot head on the sideline to turn into angry dad and reflect how they’re feeling when things are going badly. They think that cartoonish football coach blowing his stack cliche is what real leadership looks like. Personally I don’t want the general of my army ever drunk on his emotions. I’ll always take a level headed cool cucumber, Tom Landry type thank you very much. Especially when things are going badly. You need the center to be steady.

Those people just want to be entertained by the idiot box. Their coach needs to fit their desire for the character in the show they're imagining.

It doesn't matter, at all, in any way, whether the coach shows fire or is the most silent & stoic statue you've ever witnessed. The ONLY thing that matters is whether or not he is a leader and how the players respond to his leadership.
