I want to touch on another part of the QB mess the Browns now find themselves involved in...the go to line of Haslam, Berry and Stefanski has been that WE DID OUR HOMEWORK ON WATSON...and that they are comfortable with their decision to make Watson the face of the franchise.
If that comment, "we did our homework" is factual and true, then Haslam, Berry and Stefanski had to already be aware of all the information that has become public. There is no way they can attempt to fall back on the often used excuse in such situation, that "we didn't know about that", as some of the gross details become known to the public.
They did their homework...therefore ownership and management already knew about the slimy details and still made the deal for Watson.
Browns fans need to be very concerned about the leadership and judgement of those in charge of this franchise, from ownership and on down the line. All this praise some fans heap upon ownership and management over their decision to make .."Watson the face of Cleveland Browns".. is troubling to say the least.
Another question I have..did the NFL investigate any of the newest claims against Watson..?...about the $5k payment to a spa owner..? the allegations by #23..? the allegations by #24..? and what about any future information that is likely to become public for lord knows how long?
The NFL can't claim that the Watson case is closed knowing full well that new accusers are coming forward and accusers might continue to surface for an unknown amount of time. How could the NFL close their investigation without considering all the information? IMO, there is no way the NFL can close the investigation by simply picking a date on the calendar and proclaiming that they did a thorough investigation of all the facts and they investigation is now complete and ended.
What is the NFL going to do if the next massage therapist comes forward with accusations that Watson beat the hell out her and raped her..? This is just a hypothetical but it does illustrate the potential problems facing the NFL and how they ultimately judge Watson under the personal conduct policies...?
The NFL might hand down a decision based on the 'maximum suspension' knowing it could be shortened or lengthened depending on all the information known but giving them time enough to consider any new information that might surface.
All I know for sure, trying to focus Browns football without giving thought to mess that Watson brought with him to Cleveland (thanks to the owner/management)...it's difficult for me to enjoy the football side without facing the problems that come with Watson.
