Is it okay for radio stations to make fun of a red hair, fair skin person, a "ginger" they call it? Over the last 6 months to year I have been paying attention to radio shows, tv shows, people talk, and "ginger" I take it is an acceptable term. I am a "ginger" and I have started to take offense to this term. I won't post the terms that people can't say, but everyone knows what they are. Why is it acceptable for everyone to use the word "ginger"?

I know most of you will think this is stupid, funny, but I will no longer listen to this slur without saying something, emailing them, calling them, because no one else accepts this treatment!!!

Ah shut it ya bloody ginger.

(I have ... well ... had red hair when I was a kid. It's kinda gone browner, yet gray as I got older)

The more I think about it, the more I will boycott anyone using the term "Ginger" ... except Gilligan's Island reruns and Doctor Who.

Without getting into the specific details of the situation ... I think Andy Dalton was upset that people who have been interviewing him ask him the same thing. What does red hair have to do with being a football player?

Look simple answer Life isn't fair. Some ethic slurs are generally accepted and some aren't. Maybe if ginger kids were enslaved and beat then ginger wouldn't be tolerated. If you wanna blame somebody I would blame Southpark cause one of their best episodes is where Cartman gets made a ginger.

The caller I heard today said, Do you think a ginger can win in the NFL? Come on, if one of the other slurs were used, imagine the outrage! But "ginger" is okay!

Well, red hair isn't an ethnicity, first of all.

Not that I'm condoning it's use, and clearly it can still offend people, but it's not an ethnic slur.

Ethnic slurs can be a troubling issue. I think we can all agree that one of the worst of them is one which features an "N," two "G's," an "I," an "E," and an "R."

I think we all know what I am talking about.

As much as it pains me to say it.......

"G" "I" "N" "G" "E" "R"

It is a term which has tortured a certain ethnicity of people for centuries. And with the recent popularity of new founded holidays such as "Kick a Ginger Day," things aren't getting any better for our fiery-headed friends.

Our only hope is that one day, words like this will no longer be acceptable in a polite society.

Until that day, we need to understand that freckles aren't blemishes. And orange hair is a natural and beautiful hair-color. Their are plenty of people who have proven that red-hair, doesn't hold them back.

For example,

These guys prove that there really isn't any truth to the stereotypes. They are positive role models for all our orange headed friends.

What more do you want dude? In this country its okay for you flip the peace sign at someone in some country's that's insulting. Is it fair that what you do in one country is accepted and not in another? There is no other explanation man. In this country its accepted for men to go shirtless on all beaches its not accepted for women to go shirtless on all beaches. Its just the way it is.

No matter how much rage you have you aren't going to change it. Ginger kids weren't subjected to slavery and their land was ravished by the white man so nobody cares. Plus as I mentioned Southpark made a really funny episode where they popularized the phrase.

In our society Ginger is accepted other phrases you allude to are not. Is it fair nope but then again Life isn't.

One letter would have sufficed, and if people didn't know what you were talking about, I'd say good for them.

Red Buttons or Red Skelton didn't seem to have a problem with it. I don't think they looked at life quite as seriously though.

You're right. People need to stop using the phrase "Bl*nde" when describing someone with Golden hair, too.

Be happy they don't use the word 'ranga'. The only time I've heard this term was from some Australian contacts. Be happy to be called a 'ginger'. The connotations aren't nearly as derogatory.

My brother calls women by the non-derogatory term 'spare ribs'. He's still single if any of you ladies out there are interested.

I don't know Frenchy, I guess I can't say I'd be upset if I were a redhead and someone called me a Ginger if they did it in such a fashion where it's not meant as a slur.

it's funny, but I never heard the term before this thread. My wife is a Redhead,, (love redheaded women by the way) and I just asked her if she ever heard it before,, she has, long long ago. Funny thing is, she's not offended by that. She prefers that over Carrot Top howver.

I have to agree with your wife. I MUCH prefer being called "ginger" over "carrot top". I used to respond to "carrot top" with "carrot tops are green, I am not" Childish I know, but I was a child when I said it. LOL! Though, in more recent years, I've heard both terms less and less as my hair is dark red, almost brown.

OMG, that episode of South Park with the Ginger Kids freakin' cracked me up!!!!!!

Both of my redheaded ex's would have jumped for joy had I called them ginger.
"Red on the head like a [blank] on a dog" was one they didn't care for much.

This post was not a joke, I'm serious about this. Everyone thinks this is a joke, I've even seen a few posts in the tailgate lot now that includes ginger jokes now.
Really people, if I had used spic, gook, beaner, ..., gringo, slant-eye, camel jockey, rag head, chug, cracker, dago,I would have been blasted for even bringing it up!

That's because we are talking about hair color. You see more blonde jokes than redhead jokes.

Besides, it is a known fact that men (meaning me) prefer redheads.

I know exactly how you feel. Sometimes, when I've had enough of the bald jokes, I just say "How about you go BLEEP yourself, assface?".

I think people are poking fun because the term "Ginger" is rarely used in a derogatory connotation. At least from my experience it hasn't.

Why would you allow small minded people to offend you? Why would you care at all what they think? I ignore people who would call the particular group I might be in names or say terrible things. I wouldn't want to spend 2 minutes with someone like that, why would I spend a moment worrying about what they have to say?
