well at least with germ laden greasy fingerprints, you can tell where they are.. as opposed to the ones that hide in your keypad..

I was gonna wait also but...I was told if we see the Verizon iphone by Christmas we will be lucky. Also, was told the Verizon version may not exactly resemble the current iphone.
The Droid Incredible is made by HTC, the older Droid is a Motorola.
I wanted an iPhone...Until I got my Droid, now I have no desire for an iPhone even if Verizon were to be able to offer it. Which I read this morning will most likely not happen til next year if at all, since there are rumors of an agreement for the iPhone in the iPhad agreement with AT&T.
I think the Android phone sector will just continue to grow and Apple is missing the boat an expanding their market by dealing with AT&T.

And once the Windows phone hits, lookout Apple. With two smartphones in this sector that will allow multitasking and flash they are going to have to open up a little bit to remain competitive IMO. I am going to be very tempted to get one (I've got a Motorola Droid now and love it) when released. Using Silverlight as a development platform is going to be great.

Windows Phone has been out for years.
I won't trust anything Microsoft makes anymore.
*hugs Macbook*
Lol...hug your macbook and iPhone and whatever overpriced other Apple products you own. With the Driod and Windows phone, the iPhone is going to face some serious competition. Windows mobile has been out for years - not a true Windows phone. Windows mobile is not good at all, but remember it was not designed to be a phone - it is used on all kinds of handheld devices.
Do some research on the Windows phone - it is going to be amazing.
iPhone is the same price as a droid incredible. When I got my mac book comperable solid laptops were same price PLUS no headaches or worries about viruses Which means I dont have to pay for a virus program!

I haven't bought virus software in years, and haven't been infected on my Windows computer. Guess it's more about who and how it gets used than the computer software itself. And Windows 7 has gone a LONG LONG way toward secure computing without intrusion.
BTW, your fooling yourself if you think your MAC is invulnerable. It is well protected by default, but it is not invulnerable.

Yes it is. But, IMO, Apple has really backed themselves into a corner with only AT&T being the provider. The cost of a phone is pretty much meaningless as they are given away. I wasn't really referencing phones as the cost, more the price of a Mac vs. PC.

You don't have to worry about viruses because who would write one for a computer OS that has such a small market share? People always fail to realize that people who make viruses are going to attack what is most prevalent. Should Linux or Mac take over Windows, there will be attacks on those systems with out a doubt. You can get excellent free virus software too (AVG) if you feel that it is necessary. You can still get a comparable PC laptop for far less than an Macbook.
Mobile applications are the future and Apple is going to have to open up their systems to compete. It is as simple as that. Google and Microsoft will be the only major players if they do not do this IMO. HP might be thrown in there too with their acquisition of Palm - the WebOS gets some pretty good reviews. I've heard rumors that they cancelled the Slate as the Intel chipset was too power hungry and that Windows 7 was not working out well on the tablet environment. That would be a huge hit to MS as they dropped development of their tablet as well. Going forward, Apple appears to have the only viable tablet with the iPad for a while.
I am by no means an Apple hater. Nor am I a MS hater or Linux hater. I like them all and they all do have their place. It's like a toolbox to me and you pick the right one for the job. Apple has just always grated me with how locked down they are as far as development goes and I feel their desktops and laptops are overpriced. They are certainly very good products.
Yes it does - and I'm sure the allowing developers to make multitasking capable applications made Steve Jobs cringe. Threading is quite possibly one of the most difficult programming tasks to complete successfully IMO. I still haven't heard if they have backed down from not allowing Flash - to me that is a bigger problem than multitasking. And I can only imagine where Android and Windows phone will be on their 4th releases. The minor release to Andriod for the Motorla Droid added some very, very nice features.
I don't know enough about the Mac OS and it's inner workings - I'm a casual user when it comes to Apple. Know enough to get around, but not a lot about how it works. Done a little iPhone development on a Mac, but that's about it. The Mac OS is not infallible as so many seem to believe - it's a matter of users as to why holes have not been exploited. Attack 100 or attack 10,000 - what would cause more problems? And problems are what these people are looking to create.
As Florida said - you don't need a virus scanner on a PC. I've got several that I do not have one on and have zero problems. I have one on my server that I use for work just to be safe.
The lack of flash on an iphone is a buzzkill for sure. It seems to me that personal greivences are the reason behind it. I'm not sure if you've seen it or not but Steve Jobs recently released a statement as to why they dont allow it. Basically came down to flash draining the battery and that flash is one of the core issues with their computer lines. Leats thats what he said the issues are.

I see the terms Droid and Android and whatever else tossed about. Are they explicitly different products, or is one name simply a nickname for the other?

Droid is the name of the Phone built by Motorola but it is derived from the name of the operating system which is Google's Android OS 2.0.
There are other phones that use the Android OS and you can see a list of them here.
Well Google created the Android OS, while Motorola create a phone and named it Droid.
I imaging it was a marketing ploy to confuse people into connecting the 2 as one, and therefore people wanting to try the Android OS would look to the Droid as their only answer as the only way to get the iPhone OS is with an iPhone.
As more and more people buy into the Android OS and developers really begin to learn it and use it, it will become quite a system.

Still no Flash, and I suspect it will stay that way. Steve Jobs' professional issues with Flash seem to be primarily concerned with proprietary vs. open (as far as I know he is a proponent of HTML5 and H.264, which are controlled by standards groups) and the issue of software vs. hardware decoding of Flash. I'm sure he has personal reasons as well. Personally I just wonder how people propose to do mouseovers on a touch device. But I'm a very casual observer in the whole thing.
As for the inner workings of OS X, I can't tell you a whole lot, but I do know that Mac applications are generally self-contained packages (hence why you don't need install wizards or uninstall programs to remove them, just drag and drop). Preferences are managed in .plist files stored in the user's /Library/Preferences folder. Some applications do call from libraries outside their packages for some things, but nothing like a shared registry in Windows.
I have a few programs on Windows that I can just copy the folder from point to point and maintain their functionality. That is so nice when doing a rebuild or fix. I hate reinstalling everything.

Which is the direction Windows is trying to head with SxS Assemblies and .NET. No need for COM registration, no need even for GAC and registry mucking about... just drop a file, or small collection of files, into a location and go.

I agree. All (there are a few exceptions I suppose) of the software I develop has no ties to the Windows OS directory - it makes troubleshooting and setup sooooo much easier. The applications can be copied from system to system by just moving a folder. If I use the registry (which I also try to stay away from) the entries are "self healing" and will rebuild to their defaults upon launching the new application. While my applications are typically not a single .EXE, everything is contained in a single directory with multiple sub-directories.
I played with the Incredible today in the store....I love it! I'll probably pick one up after the summer. I'm overdue for the Verizon phone upgrade. I was waiting to compare this phone to the iPhone if they ended up with them both.
As far as Mac's go, I would never buy anything other than a Macbook Pro for a laptop. PC laptops burn out too quickly, meanwhile I'm still running current 3-D drafting programs on my 8 year old Powerbook with no problems. My Macbook Pro blows my PC Desktop out of the water.
With that being said, my desktop is a PC that I built myself. I really need to upgrade it again when I get a chance. 4 gigs of ram and my dual core processor just don't cut it for me anymore. But I do agree with Windows 7. I picked it up for $10 here at the university and absolutely love it. They still have a ways to go but I'm so glad they sidetracked off of the direction of Vista. I never even installed Vista, just went from XP Pro to 7.
1) Motorola Droid <---- has its own operating system? 2) Droid Eris by htc <-------- runs on windows 6.5? 3) Droid Incredible by htc <-------- runs on windows 6.5? 4 There is also the newest htc hd2 <-------- runs on windows 6.5
Which is better? I know the htc hd2 has the biggest screen.
