Could it be we're finally getting cheerleaders?

Nobody's asked yet.

So, it's mostly the unimportant stuff then?

To me, IMO, it seems that they are trying to create some division between Romeo and Phil, asking things like "Who is going to make those decisions, you or Romeo", and Phil keeps responding that he and romeo make collaborative decisions.

Well, this PC is so very exciting. But, I'm finished listening. Time to clean the gutters for the three days of rain coming up. Bah. Hope I don't fall off the roof.

He basically said that he isn't worried about a quick turn around, and that he is just going to keep adding quality players and let it work itself out.

"I know we struggled some against the teams in our division ...."

Phil ..... you didn't win one stinking game against any of them! Struggled? You stunk! Spin spin spin spin ....... "we had a lead against the Ravens and Steelers ....." BFD!

I'm just tired of being talked to by the idiots in charge like we're idiots too.

We lost every game within our division by a combined score of 75-157. Yeah ..... we're close. We have won exactly 1 freakin game against a division foe in the past 2 years combined. Yeah ... we're close. Close to what is the question.

Looks like you all missed the part of him saying when they signed Shaffer it was to play LT BUT potientially if they got a LT they could move him to the right side.
That was more informative than anything else..
Did anyone expect him to say a whole lot?

AKA we are drafting joe Thomas!

That was more informative than anything else..

The one line that stuck out to me, and he said it two or three times was... "With the #3 or 4 pick, IF WE CHOOSE TO STAY THERE...... " It sounds like Phil is certainly interested in hearing "trade down" offers...

Other than that, it was pretty much blah, blah, blah... but then I'm not sure why anybody would expect anything but that... what's he going to do? Throw the names of fired coaches under the bus? Drop the names of prospective coaches while all of the other teams are also considering coaching moves? Drop the names of draft picks? Call Braylon a freakin' cry baby while he's still under contract? No... he's going to do exactly what he did...

Agreed, DC. Lots of spin. He made that comment a bunch, but then mentioned how great of a year this is to be in the top 5 Guess he's leaving his options open.

I need to listen to the presser again. I didn't take his statements on Shaffer that way at all "brought him in with the thought of moving him to the right side in mind". Not that Attack is wrong - that just wasn't what I heard.

One thing with Phil is that it seems like his statements can be categorized to a degree. He seems more honest when he gets passionate about a subject, while he's shoter/more to the point when he's blowing smoke or being politically correct (I don't think he likes that part of the job). His tangents are generally on things he's more sincere about.

Obviously everything has some potential for a political spin, but the other things I thought were interesting were:

1. His comments on Sherer as an OC candidate and cementing his view that hiring an inside person doesn't mean anything except that they were the best person for the job. He seemed to stress Sherer's heavy play-calling background. I'm not that familiar with the guy but plan on some research there. Also interesting that he through out there that league rules have blocked them from considering some candidates. I think they are leaning toward staying inside right now. He said the decision would come in the next few days unless they were waiting for a play-off team to finish. They have a couple of interviews coming up.

2. I like how he laughed about the reports that RAC was forced to make changes. Not that I'd expect him to say otherwise regardless, but people around here and in the media read too much into things sometimes, I think. Too many conspiracy theorists. Said coaching changes were based more on the "body of work" than on a particular incident. Most circulating rumors have that staff not getting along very well.

3. He was more wishy washy on Frye than I expected and eluded that if the right guy dropped to us we'd have to consider it by saying that something to the affect of "If the top 2 are gone when we get there, our decision would more or less be made for us".

4. I tend to agree w/ his comments on Braylon. Vers and others may know things on the topic that we don't, but only time will tell our deep this kids problems go. His problems are not unique to the NFL or the Browns.

5. Mentioned 5 or 6 areas needing help, but seemed to be advocating an approach that would fix areas completely, rather than spreading the fixes around in a thin layer.

6. Mentioned future of the offense being built 80 and 17. Reading into that, does that mean moving more toward a passing attack since our best weapons seem to be on that side? I also think that statement was ad hoc and further reduces the likelihood that they would look to trade Braylon. I'm not sure Phil liked the way Braylon was being utlitized either.

7. He thought Washington had a solid season. Once guy can't stop the run. Most of our run stopping problems were over our ends - not off the guards.

8. Talked about the number 3 pick being influenced by the potential "impact" of the player/position selected rather than simply BPA or need. Not too surprising there.

9. At least talked like they are sticking w/ the longer term approach rather than taking a more short-term approach of fix it fast. I hope he was being honest about that.

10. Didn't anticipate any problems getting players or coaches in here. FA is money first market.

Anyway - most probably listened to it, but I thought those were the highlights as I saw them.

Edit:

Oh and he also re-confirmed his belief that you don't draft OL on the first day (stated C and G specifically - but didn't mention RT, so its unclear where that position falls).

For those hoping for an all OL first day - that's not looking good.

So the thought was still the same..he wasn't viewed as the long term answer at LT.

Here's your quote attack:

[color:" red"]"When they signed Shaffer it was to play LT but with the thought he could be moved to the right side.."[/color]

Sorry if I didn't hit it quite right (should know better than to paraphrase). I didn't hear this from Phil either - but again, I could have missed something. I heard him mention that a move to RT was a possibility, but not in this context. I could very well be mistaken - so I've tried to be clear about that.
