Jobs are there. Period. Working in fast food is not and never was meant to be a full time job. The end.
Clerking at a gas station? Nah. Extra income? Yeah.
What it appears you are advocating is gov't intervening yet again. How's that working for us?

The jobs that are there.. are service jobs. This is a service economy. Is and has been for decades now. Retail? Need jobs, Fast Food? need jobs, call center? Need jobs, The overwhelming amount of jobs in this country are service jobs.
Maybe it "shouldn't" be that way
but the majority of jobs are service jobs.
What is the way up? what is an "improve their situation"? Someone's got to do those jobs. Especially since services out pace goods 4 to 1.

Besides what's the logic here... Most are receiving SNAP. That's a problem. And it's not like a small percentage of people who have this problem. It means that there might be a systemic issue at play that is forcing this to happen.
There's been more than enough studies to show that people usually stop using government aid when they finally are able to not do so.
Should no one get aid to help themselves because a handful of people abuse the system?
11.5 percent of the country are below the poverty line..
That's 37.5 million people...
But yeah... They're not looking to improve their situation...

It's why when people base their beliefs on "feelings" things aren't as they believe. Now granted these statistics are from 2020 I doubt things have changed drastically..................... Most Families That Received SNAP Benefits in 2018 Had At Least One Person Working https://www.census.gov/library/stor...018-had-at-least-one-person-working.htmlThere's that word "most" someone was bantering around.............. Federal Social Safety Net Programs: Millions of Full-Time Workers Rely on Federal Health Care and Food Assistance Programs https://www.gao.gov/products/gao-21-45What you'll often notice the very same people that point the finger at those receiving government benefits are the same people that argue against raising the minimum wage and higher wages in general. It's as if they do their best to help keep working people in poverty and then point the finger at those very same people like they're low lifes.

Life ain't fair, just like everywhere else pay and benefits differ-- today's minimum wage in Florida is $12 dollars....in Oklahoma it is $2 dollars....yes, TWO dollars-- the minimum wage in US in 63 was $1.25 cents worth $12.85 cents. Oklahoma is really hosing people, Florida not as much--- JMHO, companies don't share the wealth like they did before- in 50s/ 60s an average American could work for Penny's and get paid AND have a small retirement check....today the average American- non college educated better have a trade job, because simple service jobs don't have a future.
Note- how many non-Hispanic roofers have you seen- without immigrant workers my daughter in Washington state working as highly paid accounting housing exec says they couldn't put roofs on their homes.....same thing all thru Florida- over 90 are Hispanic immigrants-- some jobs "Americans" won't do....food pickers--same thing. The American work ethic sure depends on your background and expectations- we've raised lots of entitled folks.

The only jobs where the minimum wage is anywhere around $2.00 an hour are for servers who depend on their tips. The current minimum wage in Oklahoma is set at the federal minimum wage guideline of $7.25. There are only 20 states left in the country who have a minimum wage that low. there is currently a measure on the ballot in hopes of increasing the minimum wage in Oklahoma....

I still know a lot of people in business ... especially restaurants. You canot hire anyone in Ohio for minimum wage. They just won't apply. The market sets the wages .... and there is a ton of demand for workers right now. I know of some restaurants that are hiring up to $16/hour, or more. Many fast food places are at $10/hr, or more.
As workers become more and more scarce, the more businesses turn to Kiosks, and more in store automation. (fewer jobs) There are places where fast food drive thru and delivery only stores are being built ... with automated order takiing, and some internal tasks also being automated.

My assertion was concerning the fact it was stated that Oklahoma's minimum wage was $2.00 an hour. That simply isn't true. And I won't dispute that you can no longer get away with hiring people at that wage and you are right that people no longer agree nearly as often to work at below poverty wages with more and better opportunities at their disposal. As it should have been all along. Tides shift. There are periods of time when the market dictates the employer has the advantage then there are times when the market dictates workers have the advantage. At this current point in time the advantage has been shifting towards the workers and that just doesn't seem to sit well with some people.
This however does not apply in all locations. There are places where the job market is thriving while there are also locations where it's not. In places where it's thriving as in my location people don't have to work for $7.25 an hour because there are are more jobs than there are people out of work. That means business has to compete for workers. That's how capitalism is supposed to work. Supply and demand.
