General FYI: Santos-Silva played football from age 7 through his freshman year of high school. He stopped to focus on basketball.

Plenty of former hoopers in the league over they years and some have really excelled as TEs. Worth a shot.

Tony Gonzalez played basketbaal and football in college Jimmy Graham only played one year of college football. 4 years of basketball Antonio Gates only played college basketball
I believe they are the top 3 TE's in receiving TD's all time...
I'm OK with taking a flyer on a developmental 3rd TE with Njoku and Bryant here.
People ask me what I do in spring when there's no football. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for fall

It worked out kinda ok for the Chargers signing that UDFA Gates kid that played basketball for some little school in Ohio. It definitely doesn't hurt to give him a look.

I'd venture a guess that the TE's and the DT's are the most important to watch. Everyone else will be given a shot to earn a spot, but they're fighting much more of an uphill battle than those two other positions. Aside from that, I think those two are the more interesting groups. We need DT's, so at least one of those has a VERY REAL shot at making the roster, and it's kinda the same boat with the TE's and I love that we're going after big-bodied basketball players that know how to run and block out defenders to get a ball.

Yes, I concur ... Two of the TEs' we brought in, both did not even play College football ... that is pretty unusual to see, and both of the DTs' are NT types in our defense, which seems to be a rarity with the guys we already have together w/ Winfrey ... Jolly the one of the two CBs' is most probably going to be an inside slot prospect, (because of his size) which is another question mark, at least for the time being.

I was reading the story behind this guy Santos.
They studied his basketball tape. Saw his athletic skills. Brought him in for a workout that was attended by the staff. He never went home. They signed him to a deal.
Apparently, he has the skills that can be developed. The playbook and blocking will be the hard part.
If he shows he can compete through camp. He could land on the practice squad. Spend a year there. Maybe next year he could make the team?
Longer shots have made a mark in the NFL.

We need bigs at DT. Hopefully, Berry found one. I like to see both make it. Hopefully, they can at least play against the run. I see Logan and/or Perry as situational players whenever we face teams that run the football.
As for receivers, you make Cooper the captain and surround him with situational receivers. I've always been a believer in having one solid receiver and surrounding him with as much diversity as you can get. The opposition can't be good at stopping every combination.
I'll bet one of these basketball player TEs becomes a scoring machine in the red zone. Each week he'll have a set play. At their height, it'll be difficult to stop.
I think "situational" will become key to this team. I think we see groups who can perform specific play patterns where they execute a set number of plays very well.

Nice post, but I really doubt Cooper is a leader. He's been known as anything but that in the past. He was the guy Jerry Jones was talking about less me and more we or something like that. Amari is a very good receiver. I have always questioned his "want-to." I have seen him take himself out of games on potential game-winning drives. I truely hope we bring Juice back. Amari is a quality receiver, but I don't think he is a leader in any way, shape, or form. Just my opinion.

but I don't think he is a leader in any way, shape, or form. Just my opinion. I don't care. Nobody is being asked to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt, he is a football player, and he catches balls and scores touchdowns on the field. I'm about done listening to someone define Browns players negatively, other than myself of course, haha. And it would be great if Landry comes back. And it would be great if Felton would get more playing time too, and Tony Fields II too.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.
