Swish, now that it's a new day I'm going to say what I need to say. Trump and McConnell are out of their damn minds thinking they will ram through a SCOTUS Justice in 40 some days with zero backlash. I think they are trying to start a civil war or want horrible violence in America. No damn way will the left lay down for this, no way. And IF they do it anyway, the first day a Dem is in office the SCOTUS will be bumped to 15 seats with 6 brand new FAR LEFT Justices.

I swear republicans don't give a damn about anything but pwning the libs. If it is cringeworthy to the left they are for it. After Merrick Garland, there is zero chance that this slides without some sort of retribution.

Mitch McConnell: President Trump’s Nominee to Replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Will Receive Senate Vote

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Friday night that the Senate would vote to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court after her death.

“President Trump’s nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate,” McConnell wrote in a statement sent to reporters.

McConnell announced his decision after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer argued that Trump should not replace her until after the election.

“The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice, “Schumer wrote on Twitter. “Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president.”

Ginsburg’s granddaughter, Clara Spera, said that Ginsburg dictated to her that her “most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”

But McConnell cited historical precedence for his decision.

“Since the 1880s, no Senate has confirmed an opposite-party president’s Supreme Court nominee in a presidential election year,” McConnell wrote.

Referring to his refusal to sit former President Barack Obama’s nominee to replace Justice Antonin Scalia in 2016, McConnell noted that the Republican Senate was elected to the majority to check Obama’s power at the end of his second term.

“We kept our promise,” McConnell said. “By contrast, Americans reelected our majority in 2016 and expanded it in 2018 because we pledged to work with President Trump and support his agenda, particularly his outstanding appointments to the federal judiciary. Once again, we will keep our promise.”

What a bunch of hot garbage from Moscow Mitch.

You know what? I hope they do go ahead and nominate someone.

Go ahead and guaranteed the GOP getting ran out of Congress this November. And then after that, since precedent and tradition doesn’t matter anymore, I hope the democrats add more seats to the SC and pack them with leftist judges.

Screw republicans and their blatant hypocrisy.

Exactly the opposite of what he said in 2016 after late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia passed away. tsktsk

Okay 40, waiting for you to call out McConnell's hypocrisy.

Why is McConnell a hypocrite?
Schumer is the one who completely flipped his position from 2016 and now, not McConnell.

Trump is continuing his 8 year Presidency while Obama was finished with his 8 years.

We will need a full Supreme Court to settle the upcoming election.

I’ll just leave this here for everyone’s reading pleasure...

2016, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas): “It has been 80 years since a Supreme Court vacancy was nominated and confirmed in an election year. There is a long tradition that you don’t do this in an election year.”

2018, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.): “If an opening comes in the last year of President Trump’s term, and the primary process has started, we’ll wait to the next election.”

2016, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.): “I don’t think we should be moving on a nominee in the last year of this president’s term - I would say that if it was a Republican president.”

2016, Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.): “The very balance of our nation’s highest court is in serious jeopardy. As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I will do everything in my power to encourage the president and Senate leadership not to start this process until we hear from the American people.”

2016, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa): “A lifetime appointment that could dramatically impact individual freedoms and change the direction of the court for at least a generation is too important to get bogged down in politics. The American people shouldn’t be denied a voice.”

2016, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.): “The campaign is already under way. It is essential to the institution of the Senate and to the very health of our republic to not launch our nation into a partisan, divisive confirmation battle during the very same time the American people are casting their ballots to elect our next president.”

2016, Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.): “In this election year, the American people will have an opportunity to have their say in the future direction of our country. For this reason, I believe the vacancy left open by Justice Antonin Scalia should not be filled until there is a new president.”

2016, Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.): “The Senate should not confirm a new Supreme Court justice until we have a new president.”

2016, Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Col.): “I think we’re too close to the election. The president who is elected in November should be the one who makes this decision.”

2016, Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio): “I believe the best thing for the country is to trust the American people to weigh in on who should make a lifetime appointment that could reshape the Supreme Court for generations. This wouldn’t be unusual. It is common practice for the Senate to stop acting on lifetime appointments during the last year of a presidential term, and it’s been nearly 80 years since any president was permitted to immediately fill a vacancy that arose in a presidential election year.”

2016, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.): “I strongly agree that the American people should decide the future direction of the Supreme Court by their votes for president and the majority party in the U.S. Senate.”

Trump doesn't have an "8 year Presidency", AS DEFINED IN THE CONSTITUTION, the term for president is 4 YEARS. He is up for re election and MAY NOT GET RE ELECTED. The people should have a voice in this... wink Nice try though.

There has already been precedent for this scenario. And, in fact, 5 times a Supreme Court nominee was confirmed under these identical circumstances. The last time was 1940 by FDR.

So I do not see what the hysterics are about.

Nominee will be named right after RBG's funeral.

IMO this thread should be to honor RBG. There will be plenty of threads and topics in which we can debate how things work moving forward. Those lines are already being drawn.

She was a kind soul who fought for the rights of everyone to be equal. She had compassion and was fair minded. The earth will be worse off for her passing.

RIP RBG.

No it won't, and I hear talk they will nominate a woman, a staunch conservative,

AS the other was a staunch liberal, this will inevitably scare some of an impending overturn of Roe V Wade,

Actually I think, the best thing for the election would be for Trump to nominate someone similar to RBG, voting record wise, who just has more respect for not legislating from th bench, and cares about the Constitution.

1. They aren't that smart, and 2, they wouldn't be able to explain nominating a lefty/ half lefty, to voters in time for the election anyway.

Bottom line I think nominating anybody before the election is bad for Trump in the election.
Best move is to wait until after the election and if the Dems win, to force one in before January, anyway,

But No problems if it's a woman, they'd be replacing a woman.

RIP Ruth.....Sorry to tell you the Dems don’t have any chance in stopping the GOP deplorable base and leadership in charge. You’ll be replaced by a religion driven justice who will force a Ghostly spirt into the American Government. Separation of Church and State is ancient history now.

If the dems are smart they’d let trump select and confirm who he wants and go focus on the real issues for the final push. Healthcare, Equality, Schools, and Police reform.

He lost California by almost 4 million votes. He won the entire country except the land of Pelosi, Feinstein, Maddow and Rosey O'Donnell... you know, "your people". Trump won the election period.

I know. And the GOP now takes advantage of the state level electorates. Anyways I still love how trump supporters get all unhinged about it when we bring it up.

You're trying to poke fun about who is and isn't getting 'triggered/unhinged', but fail to notice who is the one responding in all caps just a couple posts up.

Again, just pointing out that only 1 person responded in all caps... and it wasn't a Trump supporter.

The left went to figurative war on Kavanaugh. Accused the man of drugging and raping a woman 30 years ago. They are already making "Demands" that we do what they want with this "dying wish" absolute nonsense.

That isn't how it works, they know it, everyone knows it. If they had even once ounce of decency to Brett Kavanaugh you might actually get the right to think about it. On what planet is the left living that they have forgotten the tired cliche "what goes around comes around"? I predict that Kavanaugh, Impeachment, Russian hoaxes and all of the like will cloud their cause for decades.

From where I stand, if I were a Republican, I would feel absolutely no remorse for appointing one of my own. There is absolutely zero chance, and I mean less than zero chance that if the shoe were on the other foot that they would even consider for one second pausing their own nomination. Congrats, you played yourself Dems.

Another topic.....everyone is acting like it is just shocking that she died. This was an elderly woman ravaged with cancer for years. That also doesn't add up, she has barely been seen these past 4 years she has been so sick.

RIP Ruth, you were a great woman. You achieved success that I will never achieve in my life. The world has lost someone of great value. A legend.
