We definitively proved last season that no amount of desperation will prevent you from losing. It is about being better than the other team and not making critical mistakes. Desperate teams tend to make mistakes. Teams that play loose tend to play smarter.

Browns is the Browns

If this was a home game for us, I'd say the Browns. But it's not, so I'll say it's a toss-up (maybe a slight advantage to us)...

I like the Browns chances in this game.

The Raiders are taking a lot of heat this year but they've been in their games and unable to finish. Feels somewhat Brownsian. I don't want to jump on the "They suck so much we better win" bandwagon. This ain't that.

They were right there with the Rams, who might be the best team in the league, until the Rams pulled away late.
They had the Broncos beaten until they threw the game away.
They also had the Dolphins, controlling that game until the 4th quarter in which they blew that one by giving up two huge touchdowns.

But unlike the Jets, the Raiders have veteran talent. The question is if they can finally flip the switch.

The Browns should be 3-0. The Raiders should be 2-1. For that reason, I'm tipping the Browns. Last week, we saw that the Browns can win. It's hard to trust that a team can win before they can show you that that can not lose. The Raiders season, thus far, can be described by stating that they know how to lose a game. Last week, the Browns finally showed that they know how to win.

It's a favourable match-up to the Browns on paper. The Raiders offense is their strength, but the Browns defence sure looks much stronger than the Raiders "strength" which has been pretty average. We should be able to stifle their attack unless the Raiders experienced players start actually playing like they're experienced. Their defence hasn't been great, while the Browns have done an admirable job controlling the ball, not turning it over and cautiously moving the chains.

It's hard to tell with a rookie quarterback getting his first start. Mayfield looked phenomenal last week, but from one week to the next it is hard to say. The Raiders haven't been great with getting pressure, so that bodes well for Mayfield if the pocket stays clean.

I'm going with the Browns. In a convincing win. I like the Raiders, they're a good team, but they're not on the same page. If the Browns pull this off, it's bright times ahead. This is certainly one of the easier games on the schedule, but it sure isn't an easy game.

27 - Browns.
17 - Raiders.

Man, how good it would be. 2-1-1. Very much alive in the division race at the first quarter of the season.

I think this one is going to come down to big plays. Oakland is going to be desperate for a W. Can we catch them being too aggressive?

We match up pretty well defensively. Could be a little soft in the middle, but I don't see us getting beat outside in the passing game. Not too worried about Marshawn gashing us on the edges, but hopefully we tackle better in the hole.

Browns 27

Raiders 17

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

The turnover ratio is going to have to go the Browns way, every week.

And the Browns offense needs to run better outside the red zone.
They need to throw better inside the red zone.

And 13 points off of 11 turnovers, that is a red flag.

They had to win the turnover battle, overwhelmingly, in the 1st 3 games.

Baker changed that.

We scored on 4 of his 6 possessions. (not counting kneel downs) 2 of those were TDs.

We have failed to score off of turnovers, largely because of Taylor's struggles. We have failed to sustain drives. Taylor averaged less than 200 yards in his 3 starts. Baker threw for 200 yards in a half.

This offense is a different offense now. Baker doesn't hold the ball forever, until his receiver is completely open. He understands that every receiver is open at some part of the field. He is able to throw receivers open. He is able to complete passes under pressure.

Our running game also opens up when the QB is moving the ball through the air.

I expect to see a lot more of the things that Baker does well. We'll probably run some RPOs, and some swing/screen passes. His strength, however, certainly appears to be that he is able to read the defense, and make quality throws. He'll be challenged as DCs start throwing more and more at him, but that will also strengthen him, as he sees new things, and learns from them. One thing the coaches and his teammates have said about him is that he is a voracious learner, and has a photographic memory.

Given his accuracy, placement, willingness to attack, quick reads, arm, and football smarts, I feel better about him than at any point since we drafted him. I am so looking forward to tomorrow. I think he's going to do great.

I don't believe it. I think it's the same Browns offense,
I think they struggle, probably lose today, they face an uphill battle.

I think the offense is a problem, the first half points are a problem, protecting the Qb is a problem, lack of TD passes is a problem,
and having a rookie Qb again is a problem.

They may be able to solve all of these problems, but I don't think it's today, it's too early, they don't have enough experience,..( maybe Duke, but he's not being utilized.. banghead.

Bottom line, I think this team DOES have to have a 3+ turnover advantage, (DOES have to rely on the defense and maybe a big performance by Hyde to get points and keep the other team to low point totals) (again),

to be in this game, and most games this year, until they figure it out.

Figure what out? The offense, as a group.

And they've got to get first half points too.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

The one thing that Oakland has that scares me is Lynch. The way our defense tends to give up big runs, letting Lynch get to the second level could hurt bad.

Carr don't like to be hit, and I think he will hit plenty today. Also Cooper is pretty good, but tends to drop important passes.

I think our defense holds them, it will come down to our offense moving the ball. I look for Hyde to have a big game, as they will not be able to stack the box without Baker beating them with quick hitters.

I think we win, but I don't think it will be easy.

If you didn't see a huge difference once Baker came into the game, then I don't know what to tell you.

He didn't hold the ball forever, like Taylor was doing. He made quick decisions, and got the ball to the receivers. Iy was night and day.
